  1. If you are able to try to see an allergist. Or before your appointment print out evrything you can find on celiac, gut and brain symptoms and tell him you want to look for this before he does other testing. Maybe you can educate the guy.
  2. If your husband has only been gluten-free for 7 weeks then the short time injesting may be enough. As other posters have pointed out the damage doesn't heal overnight and the 5 days will likely be enough to show up. If he becomes extremely ill do not be afraid to contact the GI. Mine cancelled my endo and said that was all he needed for the diagnosis. He...
  3. I wish I could say that I could safely drink this. I and my son have DH in addition to the celiac and no matter how hard I try to tell my body it won't react to distilled grains it continues to do so. I might as well have some italian bread. Don't go overboard when you first try, you may not react but until you know for sure be cautious.
  4. What you are probally seeing is something called an apholous (spelling may not be right) if it looks like a kind of fuzzy patch. My daughtrr used to get these before diagnosis. Have your doc look at it to be sure but if it is that it is harmless and will go away when you are gluten-free..
  5. 'The bloodwork may be traumatic for my daughter' Be sure to explain to her that the doctors and nurses are trying to find out why her tummy hurts so much. To help them do this they need to take a little bit of her blood to check. Tell her it will hurt a teeny bit but not for long. I used to let my littel ones watch my many blood draws when I had the chance...
  6. Thanks for your reply, I will be sure to let him know about golden eagle. Thanks
  7. I was 'got' by Staxs last week, and yea they said gluten-free but... Severe reaction last week thought I might be wrong tried some again yesterday and had a strong gluten reaction the minute I put a chip in my mouth. I have had them other times, even eaten a whole can one night but this can got me. Won't try them again. And I will call Lays Monday.
  8. I got myself an old fashioned percolator and a coffee grinder, no filters and great fresh coffee. I love the sound of coffee burping in the morning, instead of me.
  9. You need to find another pharmacy and tell the owner why. Your pharmacist is a DOCTOR it is his or hers responsibility to find out if the medication they are about to give you will poison you. I have found the biggest gluten risk with the generics, those seem to be compounded with whatever is cheapest.
  10. I was at one time a professional chef and I would never, ever eat a chicken stock at a restaurant either canned or 'home made' many resaurants use a roux (flour browned with butter) to color or add a institutional soup base to the cooking chickens. I've learned the hard way until restaurants are certified as gluten-free I will eat at home.
  11. I know how you feel. My kids used to like packing something up and sitting in the car and looking at the lake, or at a park. We don't do restaurants but even a blanket in the back yard with Mom or a freind and a gluten-free treat can be special. Try not to dwell to much I what you can't do and more on what you can. And keep coming here to vent and spread...
  12. Perhaps what he was trying to say is that if you have been gluten-free for awhile your tests will show up negative. I am glad to hear you are continuing with the diet, it is a life saver in so many ways.
  13. Celiac will not show on the colonoscopy, you need to go in from the other end and into the small intestine and duodenum to be able to get biopsies from the correct places. I would ask him to do the endoscopy first or for full sedation and both at once.
  14. Just a note to add, in the US if you itemize on your taxes you can deduct the differnce between your gluten-free foods and regular foods. Tax season is soon approaching so you may want to contact your tax pro and see what you need to do to take the deduction. I believe it is considered a medical expense. This has never helped me cause I don't earn enough...
  15. You have done a gluten challenge 3 times and had the same result each time. Your reaction was a celiac reaction, there is no doubt. Why do you need a doctor to confirm what your body is telling you. If I listened to my doctors I would still be on at least 5 scripts a day and would have had intestinal surgery or committed suidide by now, if I could have...
  16. The best way to detect food intolerances is through an elimination diet. You can ask the GI for a refferral to an allegist if he is unable to guide you through it. Why not try the diet you have absolutely nothing to loose. Some of us never show up positive on the blood tests but if you are Celiac you will see an improvement in your health VERY quickly...
  17. It is likely that after he has been gluten-free for a while the symptoms will become more obvious. The most obvious for my son is moodiness, he will be very hyper and cranky for a day or so then become very depressed. You may notice he is clumsier when he becomes glutened. He may have trouble sleeping or want to sleep too much. And he may start to show...
  18. My allergies definately wer intensified by Gluten. The only thing I did not test positive for was beech trees! I would definately see and allergist and make sure to ask him to guide you through an elimination diet. Food intolerances do NOT show up on skin testing, they are not a histimine reaction. The elimination diet can be a bit of a pain but when you...
  19. I agree that you can react from inhaling flour. I get migraines, no pain thank goodness just flashing lights) from inhalation. Also in some countries they use a gluten rectal suppository and biopsy the rectum instead of the small intestine because gluten causes mucous membrane reactions and this is considered safer than the endoscopy that they use here. Cheaper...
  20. Which blood tests did they do? Did they do the tTg? Remember there are many false negatives on the blood tests.
  21. Yea, the head rushes are positional hypotension, stand more slowly to help with that. Also try not to miss meals, 6 small are better than 3 big for your blood sugar levels. Make sure you eat something in the morning even if it is just a slice of cheese and a bit of juice. The sensitivity to noises and light if that is a problem will get better, until it does...
  22. Gee, can I join? I spent 15 years trying to convince the doctors it wasn't all in my head. Even when nerve conduction tests showed damage they still thought it was all in my head. My ex GP actually gave me an antispasmotic combined with valium and never told me! No wonder I was yawning by 2 pm. Too bad it wore off every night at 2am in time for my 3 hour...
  23. I know how you feel I miss my italian bread sooo much. That a beer and some pecorino romano cheese. But I know it is not worth the pain. I didn't even touch gluten-free bread for the first year, I was such a bread-a-holic I knew it wouldn't be the same. Don't loose heart, it does get easier and remember you were most likely addicted to the wheat and may...
  24. Have you tried a trial of a gluten-free diet for a month or 2 to see if it helps? It was the only way my celiac disease was discovered. I knew within a couple days that was my problem. Also did he do the tTg blood test? Although not perfect it picks up more of us than the iGa or iGg.
  25. There is never anything wrong with a second opinion. Also many show up negative on blood work, I have never come back positive but both kids did. Good luck.
