ARCHIVED Nasal Spray
grey replied to Moondanse's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kelli- I spoke to Sherring today. I got the same basic answer you did (as I expected), that they couldn't guarentee gluten-free. The man I spoke with said it was because their suppliers changed and they couldn't guarentee what they were getting from those sources. He read me the list of ingredients and their sources. From what he said, it sounded like... -
ARCHIVED Nasal Spray
grey replied to Moondanse's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh, crap. I thought Nasonex was ok - I'd seen it on the lists and then I thought the hospital had checked it too. Why do the companies make it so hard? I tried calling Scherring but it's too late today. I wondered if they did a we can't confirm or deny thing or whether they said it definately had gluten. Do you know what about it has gluten? Thanks... -
Kelly, There was an article in Living Without (?spring 2007?) about someone serving on a sub and being transfered to land duty because the sub quarters were too small and all food had to be brought abroad before the start of a cruise. Ie, space issues. It seems like a lot would depend on what I think you can read part of the article online at their...

So, I baked gluten-free for the first time, trying the Namaste spice cake mix. I made 12 HUGE cupcakes late last night and I've eaten 9 of them. I want more, too, now, even though I should have dinner. I'm freaked out by this because I just can't stop! It's like chain-snacking. I think that the only way to stop it is to eat all of them. (freezing didn't work...

ARCHIVED Getting Off Birth Control - A Good Idea?
grey replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I just want to make clear that I didn't mean to say S-T method wasn't effective; what I meant was the Mayo seemed low on the % and offered a possible explanation. On the CCLI site, the page on "User Effectiveness" has similar stats as the Mayo if the methods aren't followed properly - which was the explanation I was aiming for, so maybe these are the studies... -

Here's Mayo Clinic's table of various BC methods (including sympto-thermal). They have info on all the methods on links to the side as well, including the pros and cons to each (the pill, for example). Open Original Shared Link Mayo is saying the sympto-thermal is about 87% effective, but I think they include 'human error' - so, if you were very precise... -
ARCHIVED Now What?
grey replied to Lisa Joy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I too got the phone call ... and didn't really think about the GI symptoms as being that abnormal. Very inconvenient and extremely uncomfortable ... I got directed to the internet for info as well. (and then the conflicting don't believe everything your read.) I'm still looking for straight answers! In between the blood test and the biopsy, I did a 'gluten... -
Im really glad this thread got brought back too. After drinking gallon+/day, I was just puzzling why I wasn't drinking so much water anymore and getting kind of worried about it. Especially because I had the dehydration IV too. Sounds like it might be normal when going gluten-free! Does anybody else's water taste different now too? I also...

ARCHIVED Getting Off Birth Control - A Good Idea?
grey replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Babygirl, I have an IUD and I've never had a child ... if you're interested in one, I'd find another gyn. My gyn had no problem with an IUD for me, nor did my insurance company .. it cost $10 out of pocket! In fact, my gyn RECOMMENDS the Mirena for people with PMS symptoms. It's the #1 form of protection outside the US - we're a little backward... -

You might look into an IUD. It's more effective than the pill, has for many people less side effects (and I really don't think messing around with my hormones was doing me any good!), and has the bonuses of decreasing period length, bleeding, & pain, AND being really cost efficient (my insurance paid for mine!). And you don't have to think about it for... -
I;ve found myself more sensitive to some kinds of fruit and other things since going gluten-free too. How do you get tested for allergies like malic acid? Does an allergist do it?

ARCHIVED I'm Starving ... Am I Healing?
grey posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So, for the past couple of days, I've been *starving*. This past week I noticed that I wasn't forcing myself to eat three meals, I actually seemed to have an appetite. Today, I've wanted to eat *all* day! My other GI symptoms are still there, though better, except the bloating. The neuro symptoms and fatigue haven't changed. I don't think I've had... -
Wow - the sleep thing may be withdrawal? I'm 5 weeks gluten-free and the whole time I've been having fractured sleep, insomnia, wanting the light on, vivid dreams, etc etc. It doesn't seem to matter how much fatigue I have - I still have these weird sleep things. And waking up is HARD. I've slept through appts. in the a.m. I've been beating myself up...

CarlaB - Do you avoid iodized salt? Salting the water is brilliant and sounds easy to digest too. thanks -
ARCHIVED Can You Be Celiac, But Not Have Anemia?
grey replied to sneezydiva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
sneezydiva Absolutely. For that matter, you can be low on pretty every other vitamin and mineral and not be traditionally anemic with super low iron! I know that I am occasionally anemic, but my other vitamin deficiencies are far, far more severe. You can have the symptoms tradl associated w/ anemic from other deficiencies too (like fatigue and weakness... -
ARCHIVED Missed Diagnosis Or Still Recovering?
grey replied to GFhopeful's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Something other than water is a good idea; I drank only water - though a lot of it - and my electrolytes tanked and I ended up dehydrated while drinking well more than a gallon. I have small amounts of 100% apple juice (gluten-free) now too, and that helps. I don't remember if gatorade is gluten-free, I know I couldn't have it, but can't rem. why. Anxiety... -
ARCHIVED Missed Diagnosis Or Still Recovering?
grey replied to GFhopeful's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi GFhopeful, I too suffer from a lot of the same symptoms and spent last week in the hospital for 'celiac complications' of malnourishment, malabsorption, etc. One question- you mention that your heart rate goes sky high when you stand up. I wondered about your blood pressure. I traditionally have low bp (90/65), but in the hospital it went down to 7... -
ARCHIVED Dairy And/or Soy Free?
grey replied to DarkIvy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I went gluten-free a little over a mo. ago, and then realized I needed to drop dairy too because I wasn't tolerating it well. My doctor recently tested me for soy and casein antibodies, which (yay) I don't have, with a blood test. I've gotten rid of all dairy for now because my gut needs a break. It may be too picky, but I am trying to look for dairy on... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Think Triggered Celiac For You?
grey replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think this is a really interesting question. Thanks for opening/reopening it, Doll. Starting about 16 years ago (I'm in my mid-30s), I have a history of slow healing from surgery/injuries (knee surgery, car accidents) or illness (nasty viral/bacterial bronchitis), profound stress, followed some time later (month or two?) with a 'flare' of my battery... -
ARCHIVED Just A Little Bit Celiac?
grey replied to SunnyDyRain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
SunnyDyRain, I have a hard time w/ vitamins too... I ended needing vitamins by IV. After Ursa Major's suggestion on another thread, I cut out raw veggies - I'd been eating more even after going gluten-free (healthy!) - but that was an enormous help. So I'm seconding her advice! Some fruit - peaches, watermelon, is ok for me too. I'm also not tolerating... -
ARCHIVED Help - Simethacone And Lomotil
grey posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm hoping somebody can help me! I just got released from the hospital this afternoon, picked up my meds from the Walgreens, came home. I hope someone can help me figure out this 2 OTC meds. I'm supposed to take (and would REALLY ) like to and this point... Walgreens was out of lomotil liquid, so I asked the pharmicist what to use in the menatime for... -
wow sparkles, that's great hope! (it's been years since I've had chocolate ... I wonder if I could have caffeine too!) It's kind of exciting to have the idea of possible treats in the future. Like many celiac things, how wonderful that it worked so well for you, and how horrible you had to wait so long. lmvrbaby, how did you suspect your gall...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Breath Fresheners?
grey replied to Peter12345's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Re. Altoids: I think it's the "small" having wheat. I know that they have artificial sweetners in the gums. Open Original Shared Link - I would never trust wikipedia as the final word on gluten-free, but I think this is copied off packaging and probably answer basic question. PLEASE CHECK packaging! I was so excited to find these were gluten-free... -
Hi Rachael, My primary care doctor tested me for celiac because I had migraines that weren't really resolving well, no matter what I took/did and a long-standing B12 deficiency. I also have - like you - a whole bunch of seemingly unrelated symptoms, most of which now make sense in light of my celiac diagnosis. For migraines, I was taking topamax (as...

ARCHIVED Mannatech?
grey replied to Cheri A's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gentleheart, As one of many on this board struggling with malabsorption/malnourishment issues, I've been following this thread. You wrote in your post that Nobel prizes "were inded awarded ..., but not to our company" (emphasis mine). Do you work for Mannatech? If so, I think that it is something you should be straightforward about. It may give you...
