  1. Ohh yeah, I forgot she said that she had the day off. There's an alarm on the sewer??? I guess I've been living out in the country with septic tanks too long, because I've never heard of such a thing. What makes the alarm go off?
  2. Wow, slow morning! And where's Amanda??? It is freaking coooooold here. I'm freezing my arse off. When I took the boys to school this morning, it was 12 degrees!!!! Do you know how crazy that is in North Carolina!? I feel like an icicle.
  3. Vent away, Jodi! We know how you feel. I am lucky, and had virtually no withdrawal, and have no problem with cravings. BUT-- what gets me the worst is the convenience factor. I miss being able to just pick up dinner and not have to worry about what to cook... Both of my kids and myself are gluten-free. On busy days, when we're out shopping and running...
  4. Yes we will!!! I haven't heard of Slimming World, I don't think we have that over here. How did you quit smoking? That's another goal of mine, I really want to quit.
  5. NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Not like THAT! Thanks! I found an online points calculator, so I don't the whole gluten-free thing will give me much trouble. It's funny-- a year ago the very idea of trying to do something like WW AND be gluten-free at the same time would have had me running for cover. Amazing what a little time will do.
  6. Wow, I am soooo glad I'm not the only bar addict here. (Hmm, that could be taken badly, but you know what I mean. ) I have a TERRIBLE habit of not eating all day and then eating all evening. That's gotten even worse since being gluten-free and not having my bars at hand. Now I have lots of new ones to try!
  7. I'm getting ready to start doing WW-- the points system. I'm not joining officially. A friend had me figure out how many points I can have per day, etc. I also found this calculator: Open Original Shared Link I was really glad to find that, so I can figure out the points for gluten-free foods that aren't likely to be listed in any of the books, and any...
  8. How interesting that we're discussing weighty problems today! I decided I'm going to do Weight Watchers, starting tomorrow. I keep growing out of my clothes.
  9. It sounds like the article made a few positive points, but why the obnoxious headline??? I find it really disturbing that gluten-free diets are being described as "trendy" and "fads." This type of terminology makes people more likely to take gluten-free diets, which for many of us are a serious medical restriction, less seriously.
  10. Sarad, you are an AWESOME mom/stepmom!!! Does German Chocolate Cake count? Just kidding. How about a Chinese lo mein? Check out these recipes, and just use gluten-free soy sauce and Tinkyada spaghetti noodles... Open Original Shared Link[]=lo+mein&ls=h Lo mein is great to personalize-- you can add his favorite ingredients. Edit...
  11. I can't believe I didn't see that! Thanks!
  12. If the plastic spoons don't have any melted spots, they're probably ok. (I am known to occasionally melt my spoons! ) If they are melted or distorted at all, throw them out. Yeah, the shampoo and conditioner can be tough. I was bummed to give up my old ones. But that stuff gets all over your face, not to mention residue staying in your hair. It's inevitable...
  13. Thank you all sooooo much for your suggestions! I'm going to write them down and try them out. I actually have tried the Bumble Bars, and yup, they are great. Thanks again everybody!
  14. My best friend and I agreed a couple years ago, that when our husbands pass into the great beyond, we're moving into an old farm house... get some rocking chairs and adopt a boatload of cats.
  15. We are a mixed household. All gluteny foods are kept outside the kitchen, in a cabinet in the laundry room, which is off our kitchen. It's really good that you keep your cutting board and condiments separate! But you MUST also use a separate toaster!!! Every time you put a slice of gluten-free bread in a communal toaster, it's totally contaminated. I...
  16. I'm still recovering. Biscuits her in the southern US are like... sorta like dinner rolls, but not. Oh and the gravy is MILK gravy... with sausage in it. Yummy. Well, I'm off to go pick up the youngins I DO have from school.
  17. I just have migraines every so often SINCE I got preggers with LUCAS years ago... Ok, first, I just sold all my baby stuff, like the double stroller, and now a bunch of friends mistakenly think I'm pregnant.... This is shaping up to be scary.
  18. NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO, no, no, no, totally NOT preggo, there are NO pregnant people here! Banish the thought! Not that I don't want any more kids, but not right now! Oh gasp, oh faint at the thought!
  19. For me, hillbilly heroin would be biscuits and gravy-- otherwise known in my house as "Heart Attack on a Plate." Sooooo good, and utterly verboten these days! Emily!!! As soon as Susie mentioned the poop cairns, I though of inukshuks! They are the coolest things, you guys should google it and check out pictures. Yeah, migraines are hideous-- thanks...
  20. More good points.
  21. Very, very good points, Deb!
  22. One thing I'm really missing from the pre-gluten-free days is meal replacement/nutrition bars. I've tried the Lara bars, but didn't like them. I'm not a huge fan of dates, and every flavor I've seen has dates as the 1st ingredient. I tried them anyway, but yuck. Any other suggestions? Is there anything else out there?
  23. OMG. Jay Leno had one of those animal experts on with a couple parrots... And this parrot just sang Yankee Doodle Dandy. That was awesome. (easily amused)
  24. My mom ordered the low-gluten wafers and tried one last week. She didn't seem to show any reaction, although she intends to test again. Frankly, I was surprised, because she is pretty sensitive. We're in an odd situation. I'm a non-Catholic who attends a Catholic church. My mom was raised in another church, and is currently about 1/2 way through the process...
