  1. A few times now, I've made an entire bag of Pamela's pancakes at once (for freezing.) I believe the regular-sized bag made an average of 30 pancakes. So if each kid had 2, then two bags may be enough?
  2. Janet! You just made my eyes cross! Now I'm dealing with wretched flashbacks of Social Studies classes, *barf.* I have made mac salad with Tinkyada... but once it's been in the fridge for a day or two, the pasta gets downright HARD. Maybe if I cooked it a little longer than I normally would? That's so contra-intuitive, especially for gluten-free...
  3. Yep, Target candy corn is safe, and it tastes identical to Brach's. Rosebud... One of my older son's symptoms is constant illnesses. Gluten wreaks havoc on his immune system. I am thrilled to say that since we put him on a gluten-free diet in May, he has only caught ONE stomach virus, and that was just last week. He has not gotten a single cold. He has...
  4. Well, I think this website and forum is really the best place to be. The members here are active, helpful, and knowledgeable! Allergies are not the same thing as intolerances. Celiac is not an allergy, but an autoimmune dysfunction triggered by gluten. It is possible to be both Celiac and allergic to wheat, but they are two different conditions...
  5. I know how she feels about the pizza-- but we could not go without it! This is what I do-- Every Sunday I take a few hours and cook like crazy. I make gluten-free pizza, chicken nuggets, pancakes, etc- and freeze it. It's still not as good as ordering out, but it's as close as we can get. And you get used to it! Tell her not to panic. There is a major...
  6. When I was in college, I was an English tutor for freshmen and sophomores. It was definitely my favorite job. But.... I never finished my English degree- *sigh.* I was never that great with technical grammar terminology, but I was a fabulous editor. If I can ever get the kids consistently healthy, I can go back to school. Nursing school this time around...
  7. In addition to the excellent advice given by previous posters, I'd say... Let her in on some of the "favorite" brands- Tinkyada Pamela's Bob's Red Mill Chebe And let her know that there are a few mainstream cereals that are safe: Fruity Pebbles and Berry Pebbles Cocoa Pebbles Trix Envirokids Gorilla Munch tastes like Kix.
  8. BOOOO on them! You should move, Susie. Move to NC! In a firm, ringing voice: Amanda, you are not allowed to have TB! That works, right? Update us!!!
  9. Thanks for the info everyone!
  10. WOOHOO, you were up near my neck of the woods! Asheville's only a couple hours or so from me. We used to live a lot closer when my hubby was going to Appalachian State University in Boone.
  11. Let me see if I've got this right... So.... the only drawback (other than the gross-out factor) of Humaworm is that parasites hold onto mercury? So if you have a high mercury burden... when the parasites die, they release the mercury? So you have to take a binder to cling to the mercury? Then what, to get rid of the mercury? Also, is there any at-home...
  12. If it only is happening on the weekends, there HAS to be something different going on on the weekends. Do you eat out on Friday nights? Does he have art class at school on Fridays? Or an after-school program/extracurricular activity? Visit friends on Friday/ the weekend? What does he typically eat on the weekends? The reaction times can vary...
  13. Yay, Janet's back! Ok ya'll, in my defense.... You can't think of it as getting up heinously early to go shopping. I loathe getting up early, and am totally a night person. It was more like getting up in the middle of the night, sneaking out into the cold, moonlit dark- on your way to an ADVENTURE! That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! We decorated...
  14. Hey all! The puking was ginormously heinous, but thank gawd, it was short-lived. We ended up having our Thanksgiving on Friday instead, and it was all good. I did go out shopping on Friday- just couldn't miss it. I left the house at 3:15am! Met friends at Kohl's at 4. We also went to Walmart and Target, each of which had about a half dozen cops...
  15. phenergan is an anti-nausea- my mom's gi doc rxes it for her. it's good stuff, really works! night, all!
  16. PS- susie i totally agree, green bean casserole is a big YUCK in my book
  17. just checking in to say hi, and happy thanksgiving everybody! my whole family has the puking virus going on now, and nobody's coming for thanksgiving (they're askeert, and i don't blame them!) bah... i'm still going to try to cook, maybe we'll all feel like eating tomorrow. lucas was the first to get it, and he was doing a lot better by this evening. so...
  18. Sunny here too, and 73 degrees. And Lucas has some kind of virus from hell and has been throwing up since 6am. The vomit and poop never ends around here. Welcome, Joyful!
  19. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside to see those two little words on a package.
  20. I know, it was just so not right. I kicked back on the front porch, in shorts and a t-shirt, bare feet... watching the kids romp around in the yard, with ORANGE and RED leaves blowing gently in the warm breeze. Utterly bizarre! They say it's supposed to get cold again by Friday... In NC, you can never pack away either type of clothes- summer...
  21. Bah! No fair you guys are getting snow! It was 67 degrees here today- we had all the windows open and the kids are wearing shorts. And we didn't move down south till I was 10, old enough that I know what I'm missing! sigh... we haven't gotten a decent snow in three winters now. Keeping our fingers crossed for this year!!!
  22. Welcome to the board! This is the best place to learn about Celiac and gluten intolerance. The doctor that ordered the tests don't know what the results mean either? I think that if you post your results on the "Pre-diagnosis, Testing" forum, that people should be able to tell you what they probably mean. Good luck!
  23. ...AND you said dagnabbit! I just don't understand how people can stay in and NOT go get some of the deals on Friday. I would go crazy. Right now, I'm tormented... I can't decide whether to buy the boys Optimus Prime transformers for Christmas... they want them soooo bad, but some of the other Transformers they have fall apart all the time. It...
