  1. Well... I'm left feeling the same as you-- some good, some not so good. Doctors are convinced that the blood tests are quite accurate, because that's what the studies show. But if you look at real-world cases- the story is very different. I'm not sure why this is. I believe that something in the method of the studies throws them off. If you just...
  2. I think he's not married because he's a horn dog. That's a southeastern term. Is it allowed to say horn dog?
  3. They're hilarious and adorable- what more can you ask???
  4. Colin Firth is a hottie, too. Embarassing admission: I only watch Bridget Jones diary for the scene toward the end where Colin and Hugh Grant get into the fist fight over Renee Zelwegger. That was hot.
  5. My long-time favorite has been, "What doesn't kill you makes you stranger." -Aeon Flux My newest favorite is "Amateurs built the ark, professionals built the Titanic."
  6. Loved Big Fish! Ewan is uber hot, I'd watch him in a WESTERN! (gag) I do love musicals. But I can't watch Moulin Rouge over and over, because it's just too depressing. It was really good, though. Love, love, love Chicago!
  7. Yeah, there are lots of people here who had negative blood test/positive biopsy. Furthermore, if you study people's signatures, you will see that the real-world occurance of 1st degree relatives that have Celiac is MUCH higher than the "studies" that have shown a 10% occurance. In other words, I think that is one more thing the medical community needs...
  8. What kind of doctor tells someone they should continue eating something that makes them feel like crap?! Especially something you DON'T NEED to be healthy? That is ridiculous.
  9. I think there are one or two people here who do make their own pasta, but for me.... That is where I draw the line! I make tons of food from scratch these days. My friends all say, Oooh, Ahhh, you make your cakes without a mix? Etc... And I do most of the time, because the mixes are ridiculously expensive. The day I paid $7.00 for a brownie mix...
  10. I'm not an expert, but I can give you a couple tips. First thing's first- get feeling better. You want to have 10 symptom-free days in a row before you reintroduce a food. a- Test one food at a time by introducing one food at a time. To test potato, eat a plain potato, not a product with potato flour in it. Then there's no confusion about the other...
  11. Kassandra, Wasn't it well over a week ago, that they first said you needed iron IVs right away? They keep talking about how urgent it is, then they keep doing a bunch of nothing. What's up with that??? I hope I'm not making you feel worse about it- but I think somebody needs a flame lit under their butt to get things moving! Sheesh.
  12. I try to limit these things as much as I can. I recently threw out all Frito-Lay products in the house. My son has been glutened by those stupid chips too many times. We won't risk that company again. I guess we are doing what Susie and others are doing- we try it out and see. If a reaction occurs, we'll quit using the product. I think there...
  13. I think the Amazing Bread mix that Julie's talking about is the same one I've used.
  14. Pamela's Wheat Free (gluten-free) Bread Mix might do the trick. I've used it to make bread, and pizza crust before. I make breads from scratch these days, but will absolutely use the Pamela's mix in a pinch. I think it's pretty decent. I've also used Pamela's Pancake and Baking mix as an all-purpose flour replacement, but I have NOT tried that one...
  15. Pamela's is good, but Namaste's chocolate cake mix is also excellent- the vanilla, not so much.
  16. Happy Birthday Debbie!!! Have a wonderful day!
  17. Ok... between Susie's projectile cupcakes, and my bizarre gritty gravy, this Thanksgiving is turning out to be dangerous. I cannot make gravy. Not if my life depended on it. Gravy hates me, and I.... well, I love gravy! Er, actually I love my mom's gravy. Problem solved! I'll make Mom make the gravy!
  18. Lee, thanks for your response! Your mom's method sounds just like my mom's method, and that's what I'm going for! I think mushy stuffing is gross, but there are a few family members that like it. So I asked my mother-in-law to bring a dish of Stovetop stuffing, and I'll handle the gluten-free stuffing. I'm not going to put stuffing in the turkey...
  19. I'm not sure, but it sounds like something he'd find amusing. He writes from right here in NC, but he'd love to move out there eventually. He does have a few big writer buddies out there, though, and his site's gotten a ton of recognition. He's been out to LA, and is going again next year. That's saying a lot when you're from NC. I gotta tell...
  20. Oh wow, that sounds like my best friend's hubby. He accuses me of trying to rid the world of gluten, and has been refusing gluten-free food on principle. Then, a couple weeks ago at a Halloween party, my MOM grabbed a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie (with frosting and sprinkles, no less), stuck it right under his nose, and said, "EAT IT." This was...
  21. I use: White Rice Flour (I buy it cheap in the Mexican section of my grocery store) Tapioca Starch Sorghum Flour xanthan gum Cornstarch vinegar non-fat instant dry milk powder unflavored Knox gelatin yeast
  22. I'm wracking my brains, and I really can't think of any reason why this wouldn't be ok. Treat it as carefully, and keep it as sterile as you would if you were bottling it for the baby. Other than that, I can't imagine a reason why it wouldn't be good for her. People's milk is for people, not cow's milk- even though most of us drink it.
  23. That was my first thought too- when combined with the other symptoms, the vitamin deficiency points straight to malabsorption. And of course, the oily stools certainly indicate malabsorption. CM, you have several classic symptoms of Celiac. Add your dietary response, family history, and a probable positive blood test-- it sounds to me like you have Celiac...
