  1. Awesome! I'm going to check those out.
  2. Hi Charis! Congratulations on your pregnancy, and Yay that your son is already doing better!!! How much do you know about cross contamination issues? Such as-- putting gluten-free bread in a toaster that has been used for regular bread contaminates the gluten-free bread. Swiping a knife onto a piece of regular bread and then sticking it back in a jar of...
  3. Can always spare a moment. Hugs!
  4. Yeah, corn gluten is not at all the same thing as the gluten that Celiacs have to worry about. It sounds like the person who answered your letter just did a search for "gluten" on the ingredients. Corn gluten is weird stuff. I tired to do some research on it, and came up with it as an ingredient in dog food, cat food, cattle feed, people food, and...
  5. Lisa, (((Hugs!!!))) I know the black-hole feeling! I know this is tough. Take it one day at a time, and keep reading and researching, as much as you can. The more you learn, the more you'll be able to help him. Corn doesn't contain gluten, so that's fine for him. There are only four foods you need to worry about for gluten: wheat, rye, barley, and oats...
  6. Ok, awesome- posting the UK legislation helps. I had not read that yet. It sounds good until you get to this part: This is where things get controversial. If you do a search on this message board, you'll find a lot of hullabaloo about Codex labeling. You guys have had Codex for quite awhile, but we're just now getting it- and a lot of Celiacs...
  7. Ack! :( mommyagain, I have to agree with the other posters who've said to go to a doc about this I think that's what's called parasomnia, and can be quite dangerous. Eating something with gluten in it would be bad, but not as bad as an advil sandwich, like someone mentioned. Other cases I've heard of, people have sliced soap like cheese, and eaten...
  8. Ok, take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt, because I have only recently been researching this, but... It's my understanding that different countries have different ideas of what gluten-free means. In America, most of us say that to be gluten-free, that means no detectable levels of gluten at all. Many of us are extremely upset that new labeling...
  9. Folate stuff-- It's found in dark green leafy veggies, like spinach, collard greens, romaine lettuce, and broccoli. Also found in beans and peanuts, avocado, strawberries, and oranges. I hate cooked greens and spinach, but I like it raw in my salads.
  10. So, generally I've always thought the Spanish Rice mixes you can get in the store were yucky- and most of them aren't gluten-free anyways. So last night I made some, and it turned out sooo good. This made a LOT, so either you can fix it and have lots of great leftovers, or adjust the amounts down. I put 5 cups of chicken broth into a big pot and started...
  11. It is hard to imagine, I know. I can tell you though, we have no stopped eating out. We just eat out a lot less. Of course, if you are used to eating out every other day, then cutting that back to once every other week may indeed seem as bad as not eating out at all. The way I look at it is-- the more often we eat out, the higher chance of getting glutened...
  12. Honestly, I was skeptical about these things at first as well. But now, my son Lucas has been glutened too many times where CC was the only possible explanation. Example: there's been 3 times now where Lucas has been glutened, and each of those particular times-- we had not eaten out, he hadn't eaten over at anyone else's house, and he'd eaten all...
  13. Wah-hoo!!! It's Amanda's big day! Wish we could be there for real!!!
  14. What a cutie pie!!! Congratulations, Dad!
  15. Fresh green grapes often help my kids out. Also, a nurse once gave me this tip, and it worked really well. Mix prune juice in WARM 7-up. The mixture needs to be at least room-temp, or a little warmer. I don't know why it has to be warm, but something about it works much better than if it's drunk cold.
  16. Thanks for posting this- it sounds really good!!
  17. I'm confused. If wheat is one of the allergens responsible for EE, why does your doc want to to go back on it? (I hope you don't feel attacked for your decision, I'd never want that!!! ) I just don't understand that part. I mean, the steroid part makes sense to me, to reduce the gut inflammation I would guess. But why reintroduce such a likely cause of...
  18. One day the kids and I were in Sam's Club. Ezra was in the big part of the cart, and Lucas walked beside me as I pushed it. Well, Ez has horrible gas- silent and deadly. Luke and I were like, Jeez Ez, gah that's really awful! And he'd say, What I don't smell anything! And I had to explain to the kids the concept of how farts linger in the air. Ezra...
  19. Hi Renee'! I don't know the answers to all your questions, but I can tell you a couple things. What is gluten- gluten is a very sticky protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. In some countries, it's believed that gluten can be removed from wheat, to give you wheat starch. In the US, that is generally considered FALSE. If it's wheat, barley, or rye...
  20. PS- Daddy totally farts over here, but Ezra's farts smell the worst.
  21. Gah! That's great! A couple years ago, Lucas ran up to me with an egg and shouted, The Easter Bunny came last night!!! Since it was late September, I raised an eyebrow. I asked him, Where did you get that chocolate egg? The kitty had it. Hrmmm, better give me that, honey. Incidentally... My cat (who now lives with my parents) is very old and crabby...
  22. Hi Erica! For your younger daughter-- I know it's bewildering to think she has to go on a gluten-free diet when she seems healthy. But unfortunately, the facts that her poop is oily and her iron is low show that she is already suffering from malabsorption. That's the beginning of a whole host of malnourishment problems. She is extremely fortunate that...
  23. I just don't get why they should be appalled by that suggestion. Human milk makes a heck of a lot more sense than milk for baby cows.
  24. Thanks for the link!!!
