This is excellent advice! But I want to point out that not all milk chocolate has gluten in it. Plain Hershey bars are gluten-free, as are plain M&Ms, and more. Conversely, while plain dark chocolate should be fine, you always need to double check. -

One alternative to try for temporary relief-- Witch Hazel pads. They can be found in any drugstore and are pretty cheap. Keep them by the toilet (or in your purse, they come in a small tub) and dab the area every time you go in the bathroom. The relief is gentle and temporary, but they are helpful. I found them very soothing to use on that whole area after... -

Jin, thanks for the encouragement! I do struggle with my guilt complexes. I think I inherited that from my mom (and her mom!) I hear that! I've read a lot of your posts and see how sick you are. I wish there was something I could do to help! You know... I know I am an idealist, and this is naive, but-- you'd think testing for infectious diseases... -

Jin, you are so sweet and amazing to keep up with what's going on with everyone! I actually kind of had a week of depression last week, as it sank in that there's such a strong possibility for Lyme for me. I am feeling MUCH better about it this week. Still having some anger issues with knowing now that the test I had all those years ago may have been... -

One thing I can tell you, is now that you've eliminated gluten, your reaction may very well become stronger and more noticeable when you slip up. This is pretty common. That may solve your problem. Other than that, I bet you're going to get a lot of opinions on both sides of this issue. There's lots of people here who won't risk eating something that...

I second what gfpaperdoll just said. She is absolutely correct, even if you are not as "sensitive" as others, and even if you don't know for sure if you have a problem with gluten. As a matter of fact, it's even more crucial for you to be that 100% careful, because you don't know. If you're not that careful, and the diet does nothing for you, you'll never... -

ARCHIVED Son With Wheat Allergy Possible Celiac Developmentally Delayed Help!
Ridgewalker replied to Tripletmomtx's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Janet  sorrrrry, I get long winded! Also, happygirl said what I was trying to say- but she said it much more succinctly. For reasons that aren't understood yet, some non-Celiacs are adversely affected by gluten. To me, that makes it worth trying out a gluten-free diet (or gluten-free, casein free) on almost anyone with behavioral, developmental... -

ARCHIVED Son With Wheat Allergy Possible Celiac Developmentally Delayed Help!
Ridgewalker replied to Tripletmomtx's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, do post the test results. Even if your son doesn't have full-blown Celiac, gluten-free diets are known to help many behavioral and developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum, ADD and ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and other nonspecific, unlabeled problems. Many people (adults and children) don't test positive for Celiac, and yet are undeniably gluten... -

ARCHIVED My Ob Put Me On A Diet!
Ridgewalker replied to mommyagain's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Um, yeah, mommyagain I completely agree with you. Your doc probably has forgotten that you have a history of anorexia and made a really dumb suggestion! While a food diary can be very helpful for a lot of people, it doesn't seem to be a good idea for you. And weekly weigh-ins seem way extreme to me! During my pregnancy, I had gained about the same... -

Celena, Try to let the "are you crazy" posts flow over you. A lot of us are so used to seeing gluten as poison, sometimes it's hard to shake that. Hmm... 1st question-- I know you put them back on gluten partially for diagnostic testing purposes. Your post back in June mentioned possibly going through Enterolab. Are you still planning on... -

I don't know about beef livers, but in NC chicken livers are dirt cheap. If grocers charge more for it out west, that is so weird. Maybe because it's not eaten as commonly out there? I don't know. Edit- ok just read Kassandra's post (simultaneous), nevermind. -

Ridgewalker replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Kassandra, I know, liver is gross. When I was in college, I had to do an at-home experiment with chicken livers for a biology class. I accidentally exploded the livers in my microwave. If I hadn't been a broke student, I would've chucked the microwave- as it was I scoured it. But if your anemia is that severe, I think it's worth giving it... -

Ridgewalker replied to ConnieA84's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Did you let the machine go through the entire cycle, including the full bake time? I only use a bread machine, haven't tried oven baking for yeast breads yet. My gluten-free breads do a significant portion of their rising during the first half of the bake time (unlike gluteny breads.) Also, I have had no luck so far using my Rapid Bake setting for gluten... -

I did something very similar to crouton-picking last night. Confession time... and I reeeally should have known better, I NEVER would have let my son do this. How long were your daughters gluten-free? My son Ezra went through an ugly period where he got worse before he got better. That may have been what you saw. Or, it could be multiple food intolerances, like the rice and potatoes you mention, PLUS gluten. If their asthma, eczema, and irritability all went away when they went off gluten, this is major. It... -
ARCHIVED Potty Problems...am I Nuts?!?

The daytime accidents were rarely ever pee, BUT Lucas was a chronic bed wetter before going gluten-free! That also resolved after going gluten-free. He still has the occasional bed wetting, but it's very rare now, and is almost always connected to a glutening. Now, again, same thing is going on with my younger son, Ezra. He was wetting the bed every night...
