ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
Ridgewalker replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh my gawd, during my 2nd pregnancy, every time I coughed, I'd pee a little bit. One night, at the end of my pregnancy with Ezra, hubby and I were outside. It was like 70 degrees out, and we were just sitting outside talking. I was about 8 months, 3 weeks preggo. Well, I coughed and gagged on the cough. Next thing I know, I'm vomiting everything... -

Thank you everybody, so, so much for your support! Alison, you're right on target- I totally felt like I'd had a run-in with Dementors last night. Today was not good, but not as bad as yesterday. He also had a lot of poopy problems, accidents yesterday and today. I realized tonight that this is a confirmation that his behavioral/mood problems... -
ARCHIVED Ok..day 5 Of gluten-free..what's For Dinner? I Haven't A Clue.
Ridgewalker replied to Kara'sMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Woohoo!!! A fellow local! Yes, I am very familiar with the Whole Foods in WS, it's the only place I can get good gluten-free stuff. It's about an hour drive for me- we're up in Pilot Mountain. I go every Sunday after Mass, since it's about 5 minutes from our church. Much more convenient. Their selection is pretty good, and prices are about average for... -

Thank you Andrea. I really appreciate it! I am feeling a little bit better now that I've gotten it all written out. I mean, I am mortified at how I behaved- I probably sound psycho. I still can't believe that I posted it, but I NEEDED to get it out. Mom-guilt is the worst feeling ever. -

I have to admit, I'm in tears as I write this. Ezra and I did not have a good day today. Started this morning, he woke up in a bad mood. It wasn't easy getting him to school, but he wasn't kicking and screaming or anything. He seemed ok when I left the classroom. Not great, but ok. His teachers said he did fine during the day... but the afternoon and evening... -
ARCHIVED Where To Buy Products
Ridgewalker replied to Terbie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I live in a very rural area of NC, and I drive over an hour to Whole Foods. Plus, there's a few things I order online occasionally. I do buy rice flour in the Mexican section of my regular grocery store, though. It's only about $1 a pound there. I've also been substituting cornstarch (which is much cheaper) for potato starch. So far I haven't had any problems... -

Kassandra, I wish we had a Trader Joe's! Everyone is always talking about the great stuff they get there, and good prices. We don't have a Trader Joe's in the whole state! -
That's pretty sorry. I have run into statements like this from a couple restaurants too, and I won't go to them because of it.

Now, I wonder why she rejected them all. I mean, ok obviously she can't do a show on every disease out there, and she can't do a show on every topic she's requested. But with Celiac being the most common autoimmune disease, and with it being so highly undiagnosed/misdiagnosed- you'd think that'd be right up her alley. I read somewhere that for every...

ARCHIVED Made Spanish Rice Last Night
Ridgewalker replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Julie, yup I bet that would work perfectly. Hmm, I think I'll try that next time. Might be a good way to get all my guys to eat brown rice! (Generally they won't touch it ) Betty, the chicken was super easy. I put about 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot. Then added 1 jar of mild salsa. Then I added about 1 cup of chicken broth... -

YES!!!! Omg, I completely agree, this is one drawback of being self dx'd (I am too.) I've been gluten-free for a few months now, and while I haven't really had any gluten withdrawal symptoms... I constantly am having to restrain myself from re-checking, and re-testing myself. I'm so used to thinking my symptoms are psychological! I've gotten accidentally...

I want to be this woman when I grow up. Bounced Check Shown below is an actual letter that was sent to a bank by an 86 year old woman. The bank manager thought it amusing enough to have published in the New York Times. Dear Sir: I am writing to thank you for bouncing my check with which I... -

This is actually exactly what I did. I was home schooled through high school. I got my GED a year earlier than I would've normally graduated, and my scores were so high they actually earned me an academic scholarship to the local community college. I did that next, and took the SATs at my leisure, since they weren't required for community college anyway.... -

ARCHIVED How Was Your Halloween?
Ridgewalker replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We had a good Halloween, too! Lucas was Spiderman, and Ezra was Darth Vader (again!) No glutenings from the school parties, or trick or treat candy! They got ridiculous amounts of candy. We had to trade out some, but the kids didn't mind. We gave all the gluteny candy to my dad, which he was happy about! My husband almost never eats candy. (I think... -

Good instincts on the french fries! You're right, fries that are cooked in the same oil that breaded foods were are contaminated. Other cross contamination (CC) issues: * Wooden spoons, cast iron pans, and pizza stones all absorb gluten and it cannot be removed. * It is nearly impossible to remove gluten from collanders, scratched nonstick pans... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Ridgewalker replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My son, Lucas does. In fact, shortly before we put him on a gluten-free diet, it had gotten to the point where he was having a low fever every single morning. It would gradually go back down throughout the day. Now when he gets glutened, he almost always runs a low grade fever! -

Lisa, If you see a recipe of Andrea's and have any questions, just reply in that thread. She still keeps an eye on it, and will reply! I would hope there are rice milks that don't contain known traces of gluten. But I haven't had to look for one myself, and also you probably have different brands over there than we have here. My suggestion would... -
