  1. I love the container section at Target. But I always feel like I need everything. I feel like I NEED 10 wicker hampers in various shapes and sizes, with multiple linen liners. This is my problem in Pier 1 as well. I think my life could be organized if I just had enough wicker baskets and containers.
  2. We're doing a gluten-free diet for my 4-year old because of some GI issues, and primarily for Bipolar tendencies. He's been strictly gluten-free for a week and a half, and we're already seeing noticeable improvements in his mood and temperament. But for the first week, he had horrible poop problems, diarrhea and pooping in his pants 12 or more times a day...
  3. That's depressing. I never had Godiva very often, but always look forward to indulging around the holidays. What a bummer.
  4. How the heck to you manage to keep your grocery bill that low????? Our grocery bill has gon eup a bit since some of us are gluten-free, but like you said, we don't eat out much at all anymore, so that helps. Plus Lucas hasn't gotten a single virus or infection since he went gluten-free, which lowers Dr. bills. Even so, I spend probably about $800 a...
  5. I so feel your pain. I hope yours is a short bout, I know it's terrible timing for you!!!
  6. Anybody have any suggestions? As my base recipe, I make Lorka's Flax bread, which is wonderful! But I want to do something with an onion roll flavor to it, or like an "everything" bagel with onion, garlic, poppy seeds, etc. But it'll be a loaf of bread. I'm just no quite sure how to go about it. I don't want to just sprinkle the stuff on top, because...
  7. Hmm... One thing that bothers me, going over this symptom list, is I'm seeing a few that have cropped up suddenly, and recently- like within the past few months. There's also a few that have been around for a long time. Ok, I'm just going to lay it out there for your opinion. A little embarassing. But some of these are very common, and then a couple are...
  8. Ah, now this really helps clear up a couple things I was still confused about! I couldn't figure out if you can be cured of Lyme or not. So that's more of a possibility if you catch it early? And this all makes sense to me. If, at this late date, there's no way to be sure that treatment would get rid of it completely, then there seems to be no point in it...
  9. Isn't she in California? That would be 8 o'clock for us east coasters. Speaking of devil dogs, I am really starting to think my dog has some kind of loose wiring. She has had major problems with aggression, and I thought I had gotten it trained out of her, but now this past week it's resurfacing. I don't understand, I raised this dog from 3 weeks,...
  10. What excellent ideas! This is our first gluten-free Halloween as well. I, too, would appreciate that list of safe candy.
  11. I'll pray that truth is found and justice is served. No matter what the truth is.
  12. No, I totally agree. Hey, Celiac sucks- every once in awhile Lucas gets bummed about something he loved and can't have, like Italian bread or Pizza Hut pizza, and when he gets sad I want to bawl my eyes out... But I would MUCH rather him have something that can be controlled by diet, rather than something that requires medication for the rest of his life...
  13. Me too Susie, hope she is ok... And I must say Oh... mah... gah..... I've got the stinking flu and I want to crawl in a hole and preferably not come out for a week. This is soooo not what I need right now. Not that there's any time where I might say, Hey! This is a wonderful time to get the flu, let's do it! Anyhoo, ugh my body hurts.
  14. I'm not 100% sure, so take this with a grain of salt. But I think that the second rise called for in gluteny recipes is actually there to let the gluten develop. The second rise is never called for in gluten-free recipes, simply because there is no gluten, so it's not necessary.
  15. My son is one of those with a more delayed reaction. His doesn't begin until 12-24 hours after the glutening. Then his symptoms are: *Dark circles under eyes *Diarrhea and stomach pains, cramps *Extreme emotions, grouchiness, meltdowns *Difficulty concentrating, focusing, paying attention *Much more likely to have an accident in his pants (He...
  16. Believe me, I (along with most of the other people here) totally understand not wanting to be blown off by a doc... But you'll never know if that's going to happen if you don't try. Be insistent that you want a full Celiac panel run- this is five tests I think- I'm sure someone else who has it memorized will post the tests so that you can write them down...
  17. Me! (Momma Goose is in NC too, other side of the state from me.) Yeah, we live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. It's really beautiful, mostly. I avoid going to the stinky city whenever possible. Yes, you must come visit! I'm going to have lots of big barbeque parties when our landscaping is done. My hubby thinks I'm a mite too ambitious with that...
  18. Janet! OMG you're killing me! That was a great laugh for a stinky Monday morning!!! Jin, I'm in north central North Carolina. I've been doing the same thing- a/c during the day, because it's 80+ degrees, then I turn on the heat at night because it's 50 degrees! I'm trying to keep the house at a consistent temperature, though, just switching...
  19. I'm interested in any possible causes of degenerative disc disease. Kassandra, I agree it is ridiculous. I was also diagnosed with bulged discs and degenerative disc disease at a young age, when I was 18. The last MRI I had, when I was 24 (I'm 29 now) showed multiple herniations! I seem to be one of those people who ruptures, heals, ruptures, heals...
  20. Well, I don't have a teenage daughter, but I remember being one-- and I was pretty wretched. If it makes you feel any better, I have to tell you that now my mother and I have the best relationship on the planet. I think I started to started not being so horrible when I got to be about 17 or so. I'd have to ask my mom if she agrees with that estimate! ...
  21. :o Where do you live??? It's still warm/hot all day here, and then chilly at night We're in a state-wide drought, too... The governor made a speech the other day, saying that having a dirty car right now is a sign of civic responsibility! We are warm and dry... my yard is a dusty hardpan. Sigh...
  22. Jeeez, there's lots of schools that don't even allow peanut products onto school grounds! But it's ok to throw around balls of another Top 8 Allergen-- one that floats in the air like a fog??? I would have freaked right out. You did NOT overreact. I too would be worried about recess on Monday. Will it be all over the play ground equipment???
  23. Oh wow, me too! Lucas ate a lot of peanut butter on carrots and yogurt at the beginning... Sigh... a LOT! It took me quite a while to get the hang of gluten-free pasta. I agree completely. It's a very common ingredient, and it can actually be darn near anything. If I'm in the store and pick something up to check the ingredients, "natural...
  24. Very well said, I think. I agree very much. If the tests were more accurate, it'd be different, but they're not! Why set very much store in something that's so unreliable??? Your story about your son was heartbreaking. I am so glad he's doing so much better!!!
  25. Our family just brought up the possibility of my 4-year-old being bipolar about a week ago. Celiac runs in my family, so I put him on a gluten-free diet. My husband and I are convinced that he is bipolar. But our doc was supportive of the diet- she said that even if he is bipolar (as opposed to Celiac) the diet may help him. If you're interested in reading...
