  1. I second that.
  2. I'm lucky and can drive to Udi's and get a loaf that is not frozen, but at grocery stores it is always frozen. We keep a loaf in our kitchen, undefrosted and it keeps well for about a week (we've never had a loaf go uneaten that long anyway). It's the only gluten-free bread I've found that is truly edible and tasty straight out of the package.
  3. It gets easier--especially as she feels better. Cookies are hard because nothing tastes quite right until their taste buds adjust, but many regular fruit snacks are just fine and nice and sugary. Plain Fritos, popcorn, Smart Food, Lays Stax are all gluten-free and very mainstream. I found that finding mainstream junk food was very important in the...
  4. We're a Yoplait family. Containers are marked gluten free. I've heard Dannon won't guarantee gluten-free with their yogurt, but I've never seen anything in the ingredients to indicate otherwise. But, Yoplait has a good labeling practice so they get my business.
  5. We've eaten Wendy's chili countless times and never had a problem. Many locations, many times. Never a problem.
  6. That's actually relatively out of date because the Bush's Chili Beans switched from wheat starch to corn starch (at least where I buy them) and I always double check before purchasing. We buy the chili beans (not the chili) in order to make our own chili.
  7. Simply out of principle, you shouldn't drink Landshark because it is lousy beer. Friends don't let friends drink Landshark.
  8. My vote goes to beans and then cross contamination of the coleslaw. The deli staff could have prepared it wearing the same gloves they used to make pasta salad, for example. I've also seen wheat starch in several different kinds of beans (usually chili beans, but baked I've never looked at closely. We buy Bush's, which are gluten-free). We generally avoid...
  9. If it is any consolation, my super-senstive Celiac and gluten-intolerant husband both have slurpees often with no trouble.
  10. The Frosty is no biggie. I wouldn't touch fries at either place with a ten foot pole. McD's is just too much of a gluten-mart for me to trust and I've seen first hand the fries at Wendy's come in contact with the chicken nuggets in the warming/holding area, even though there are dedicated friers.
  11. My Celiac daughter drinks Carmel Macchiato's a-plenty and never has a problem.
  12. The honeymoon phase is a pretty well documented phenomenon with Celiac Disease. My personal theory is that it goes into hiding in order for an individual to become reproductively mature. Once that has happened, it kicks in full-steam-ahead. We've talked with our 12 year old Celiac about if the honeymoon phase hits and that it's just as important to stay...
  13. You can get In n Out burger in San Diego and Vegas. Make them aware of your gluten issue and order burgers "protien style." The fries are gluten-free, too, so enjoy!
  14. Many of Costco's nut products have the, "produced on equipment with wheat..." statement on it, so I avoid those products from Costco. I think the Costco trail mix and mixed nuts packets both have that warning if memory serves me correctly. I've seen similar statements on Planters, so I avoid those. (Although, no troubles from the Spanish/Redskin sea salt...
  15. My daughter was a mental case before going gluten-free and she's as stable as stable can be now. She's still slightly more prone to meltdown than others it seems, but getting rid of gluten helped her head BIG TIME. One of her major symptoms when she is glutened is a week's worth of uberPMS.
  16. We camp a bit and do the pre-made stuff when we are co-camping. We bring taco salad (premake the beef) and bring chips, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, etc. We always bring and wash our utensils and pans seperately from anyone we may be camping with. Hot dogs over the fire are also a good meal that is not easily contaminated. Same with Jiffy Pop over the...
  17. My daughter had several of those symptoms at 3. Her growth hadn't tapered off yet, but she had weird skin things and sleep issues. Dark circles under eyes and weird bowel movements. She wasn't diagnosed 'til 9, but I always wondered why about age 3-4 her toddler belly hadn't flattened.
  18. I'd say a year before I was completely confident with it and we were going months without a glutening. We're down to about 3-4 glutens a year *knock on wood* that are usually restaurant cross-contamination related. Pretty good considering we eat out several times a month. We keep our house gluten-free, so other than the one time I bought the wrong kind...
  19. Just wondering if there are other sleepwalkers out there. My 12 year old Celiac is a sleepwalker. Tends to only pop up when she has a bit of stress, not really gluten-triggered, but I find it interesting. She'll wake up after only 2-3 hours of sleep and start getting ready for school. We've found her in the shower or in the bathroom or trying to wake...
  20. Litehouse has a great ranch that is gluten-free. Available in refrigerated section in produce.
  21. Funfetti Frosting Ingredients Frosting: Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Soybean, Cottonseed)Water, Corn Syrup, Corn Starch, Salt, Monoglycerides, Artificial Flavor, Colored with Artificial Color, Yellow No. 5, Red No. 40)Modified Corn Starch, Polysorbate 60, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative)Soy Lecithin, Citric Acid. Candy Bits: Sugar,...
  22. The main benefit of diagnosis is support of compliance to the diet and not dying of stomach cancer when she's 30. It's hard to give up gluten, but dying sucks even more.
  23. Here is a link to the chopped BBQ chicken salad ingredients: Open Original Shared Link Here is a link to the full menu of salads: Open Original Shared Link Beware that *some* salads indicate wheat, but it is only from the croutons, not any other ingredients (such as the Caesar). BBQ Chopped Chix Salad does appear to be safe, and hubby has eaten at...
  24. I have a professional one and I love it. I didn't buy it for myself though, it was a gift. I have no experience with the home one. I think either way, if you get yourself a good Kitchen Aid stand mixer, your baking will be lovely. I use mine at least once a week, if not more.
