  1. We've used the vanilla funfetti with no problems and the same for the plan vanilla. It's our go-to frosting.
  2. My daughter uses Secret, no problem. We keep her personal products gluten-free. The only deoderant I've found gluten in is Ban. There's barley in it, of all things. Whooda thunk.
  3. I use rat poison quite a bit as an analaogy (although the virus one makes good sense, too). What this analogy helps to do is helps YOU explain to others so they really, really, really, really get that even the teeniest tinyest bit is bad. "Just a little" is WAY too much. Whenver people try to give me the "just a little" line of garbage, I ask them if they...
  4. I woke up this morning and realized we were out of UDIs!!! Talk about panic!
  5. We tend to use Eucerine or Aquaphor as a moisturizer. Good for sensitve skin and free of the bad stuff.
  6. We just tried the bagels this week. SO SO SO GOOD! Soft and chewy!!
  7. Tocopherol acetate is a pain in the butt. I have to call about that ingredient more than any other. I know that it is in Cetaphil lotion and it is NOT safe. I've also found it in make-up, called the company, and many times it IS safe. It's a booger, that's for sure.
  8. My BFF has Crohns and she definitely gets some relief from a gluten-free diet. My daughter has Celiac and after her scope the doc said it could be Crohns or Celiac and they did a blood test to confirm it was Celiac. Honestly? After seeing what my BFF has gone through with Crohns, I'd take the Celiac.
  9. My child just has celiac, but I'm rather pro-scope. I really trusted the peds GI and it was a very smooth experience for all involved. You're in a rather good position to catch it before so many of those awful symptoms set in and it sounds like it may be easy to transition to the diet since you're already most of the way there. Once you make the commitment...
  10. I can't believe I forgot to mention Ling and Louie's. There are two locations--one at Stapleton/Northfield and one in Downtown Denver. Unbelievable sweet and sour chicken that is gluten-free. The downtown location also stocks Redbridge beer.
  11. Hubby leaves this evening for a 5 day training class in Newport Beach. He's staying very close to the John Wayne/OC airport and would like some gluten-free places to eat within walking distance. Any handy suggestions on what is super close to that location?
  12. Most licorice does--like Twizzlers and Red Vines and such. It is what makes it chewy and pliable.
  13. My daughter was short but not emaciated thin. She had a belly and was probably slightly overweight due to bloating. She didn't fit that uberskinny vision of Celiac. Her tushy is quite flat, though, to this day.
  14. Do you speak Polish?
  15. Some of our staples are Tinkyada pasta, Kinnickinnick pizza crust, and Udi's bread. A typical day for my daughter who is gluten-free is: Breakfast gluten-free Toast w/ peanut butter Banana Lunch gluten-free Sandwich on Udis Caesar salad with Litehouse dressing (parmesan and cherub grape tomatoes) Fruit (grapes, clementines, whatever I have on hand...
  16. Becoming a regular and knowning the managers definitely helps! There's a place called Noodles where we go often and the manager and cashiers know us all. They've even comped a meal or two for us if something has taken too long.
  17. I'd be angry, too. Your daughter is simply trying to control what she can about Celiac. She can't control that she has it, but she can control who she tells. That's SO important at that age, I think anyway. It was totally out of line for the teacher to announce it to the class.
  18. Is there any way you can take him to the grocery store with you and let him pick out the foods he wants that are safe foods? Perhaps if he is involved in the process, he'd be more apt to eat. I've seen others equate Celiac diagnosis with the grieving process---he's grieving the loss of a normal diet. My daughter is just his age--she'll be 13 in August...
  19. I truly feel for your son. I think counseling is a good idea. Do you have a local Children's Hospital who can refer you to a specialist in pediatric chronic illnesses? Is there a local kids Celiac support group in your area? If you post your location, perhaps other board members can help you get connected. Maybe knowing other kids like him will help. I...
  20. Can you get your own corn flour/masa and make corn tortillas?
  21. You can order it online. :-)
  22. My Celiac can't do Cheetohs for whatever reason either. They have MSG and that tends to give her some distress in other foods, too.
  23. My daughter had butt-blistering poops as a baby also. Never occurred to me at the time that it could be related to gluten. Now it makes MUCH more sense. She wasn't diagnosed until she was 9, though.
  24. Hubby and my daughter just bring some Lawry's seasoning salt from home. It's basically the same thing.
  25. My hubby is gluten free and I eat gluten. I just make sure that I brush my teeth before I kiss him if I've had gluten.
