ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
Darn210 replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Why do I do this? . . . Is it the challenge? . . . Is it because I have no life? OK, could nae remember the original spelling . . . actually tried to search a few civkrb options but failed miserably. You know what worked? I did my search on "Jess" & "wine". Had to actually go through quite a few posts until I found it . . . ummmm, Jess, you... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
Darn210 replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Uggghhh . . . looks what happens when you dive into the archives a few times . . . you develop an itch a niche. I will say it used to be a lot easier, but Scott changed the search engine and add in the number of ways we now spell civkeb and it complicates things. Does anyone remember how Jess originally spelled it? I'll see what I can do . . . no... -
ARCHIVED Met Another Celiac Last Night
Darn210 replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad to hear it!! I haven't heard of "Celebrating Home" . . . maybe it's new or maybe it's a regional thing. I'll have to go google it and take a look at their products. I'm a sucker for the cooking stuff . . . even though there is no more room in my kitchen Hope it's successful and you earn a bunch of freebies. -

This one from a friend of my daughter's today: Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to your house. -
ARCHIVED Met Another Celiac Last Night
Darn210 replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bartful, First of all . . . YaY for you and Yay for her, too. I'm sure you'll be able to teach her a lot. I hope I'm not raining on your parade but I also want to warn you. I don't know if this is "Pampered Chef" or not (that's what it sounds like) but if it is, they cook with stoneware all the time. You don't wash the stoneware. You scrape... -
ARCHIVED "wow, That's Good!"
Darn210 replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When Udi's first came out with their hotdog and hamburger buns, I was excited to get some for my daughter who had gone without for so long. What happens when you do without for years? Your taste buds change . . . you develop a new norm. She hates buns on her hot dogs and hamburgers. "It's too dry. It soaks up all my ketchup" What do you do with... -
ARCHIVED Substitute For Ritz Crackers?
Darn210 replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was going to mention this as well but want to point out that they are not as salty or have a "buttery" flavor to them. To top a casserole, I would toss them with a bit of salt (and any other seasoning that sounds good . . . I use onion and garlic powder in EVERYTHING I do) and a little melted butter. They're pricey . . . as all gluten-free crackers... -
My daughter usually eats supper before she goes. Takes dry cereal (chex) that she can add milk to for breakfast. She takes a snack to share (microwave popcorn and sometimes fruit chew snacks). She knows she can eat prepackaged safe items (string cheese sticks, yogurts, etc) but if your son isn't ready for that yet, tell him to only eat what he brings....

ARCHIVED Do You Ever Cheat On Your Gluten Free Diet?
Darn210 replied to karinp's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to ask . . . if you had no symptoms, why were you scoped? Something must have been going on I think you've got the gist of how people feel about cheating from the previous posts. I'd like to give you some advice on how to NOT cheat. You're better off planning these things ahead of time as I think cheating, in general, comes from... -
ARCHIVED Do You Buy Kraft?
Darn210 replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yep . . . Kraft consumers here with no problems. -
ARCHIVED R.i.p Kindle....
Darn210 replied to ~**caselynn**~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My library has ebooks to check out . . . now I can go to the library by visiting their site . . . love it. I still pick up books at yard sales because every so often, I don't want to take my kindle somewhere, you know, "dangerous" . . . plus you run into books that you want to read that aren't electonicalized or aren't carried by the library that you want... -
ARCHIVED How Long Until You Can Tell If You Have Been Glutened?
Darn210 replied to Mom2-2girls's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter was diagnosed at the age of 6. She's now 11. This summer was the first time she ever said . . . "It's a gluten stomach ache." Prior to that, we were always guessing. She does get other stomach aches . . . when she eats too much, when she eats something extremely rich, when she has too much "junk" in a short amount of time (like Halloween)... -
. . . or get the dog to give her a kiss . . . and "clean" her up a bit . . . but then, no kissing the dog

ARCHIVED Pediatrician Won't Test For Celiac
Darn210 replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I apparently type at the pace of a snail as squirmingitch's post wasn't there when I started posting . . . and my post is FIVE minutes later. My old typing teacher would not be happy -
ARCHIVED Pediatrician Won't Test For Celiac
Darn210 replied to scarlet-willow's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The GI is right in that your boys should be screened. I'd call your GI's office and let him know that the ped won't test. Your GI can request the test for your boys or his office can call your pediatrician and let him know that the request has come through your GI. When my daughter was diagnosed, her pedGI requested the testing for my son and recommended... -
ARCHIVED Ttg Results....what Do I Make Of This?
Darn210 replied to bobtom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed before the newer deamidated tests were available. I'm not positive that I totally have my facts right so if I'm wrong, hopefully someone will come along and correct me. As it is, maybe it will give you enough info to do a little online research. In the "old" tests (I'm only talking about five years ago), a high IgA didn't... -
ARCHIVED One Positive Biopsy, Two Negative And Two Negative Blood Tests
Darn210 replied to Kar1972's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Son Has Acid Reflux
Darn210 replied to Lisserg04's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Acid Reflux is what sent my daughter to the doc. The prescription meds did the trick and my daughter went off of them. Reflux came back a little later . . . back on meds . . . off . . . on . . . until she just stayed "on" and then symptoms came back even though she was on meds. It manifested itself by regurgitation . . . she would just vomit/spit-up... -

Had to use the peroxide thing to get my MaggieDog to puke one time. She got into a bunch of goody bags filled with the bite sized snickers, milky ways, reeses cups, and three muskateers. Called the vet and since it was milk chocolate and a lot of "other" (sugar and peanut) ingredients, they decided she didn't eat enough to kill her but that I should induce... -
ARCHIVED Family Is Part Celiac/part Not
Darn210 replied to NGG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mamaw, Have you tried this one . . . Instead of a choc kiss on a pretzel, use a rolo. When it gets to that soft stage, push it down with a half pecan . . . turtle-ish . . . also yummy! -
ARCHIVED Family Is Part Celiac/part Not
Darn210 replied to NGG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the beginning when my daughter was 6, she really needed her treat to look like the other kids . . . now that she's older (and you may be able to get away with this, too, since your daughter is 10), all that matters is that she's got something that she likes. If she likes the gluten free rice krispie treats then go for it . . . it certainly travels better... -
ARCHIVED Family Is Part Celiac/part Not
Darn210 replied to NGG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We are a mixed household . . . but I cook and bake completely gluten free. The gluten in this house consists of bread/buns, cereals, packaged cookies/crackers. All the gluten items are kept in a separate cabinet. Everything in the pantry is gluten free. I have duplicates of certain items (peanut butter, butter, nutella, cream cheese - the items most at...
