  1. Would that hold true if they were eliminating an ingedient? I can see (potential) exceptions if something listed an ingredient (like wheat) but it wasn't actually in there. I have no idea . . . just wondering. I absolutely do not suggest that anybody try something because they think the packaging isn't up to date yet.
  2. I saw that too . . . I've got a good guess that you saw it on this forum. The frito lay list shows that the reduced fat nacho cheese does not conatain gluten ingredients. I'm guessing the regular ones are not far behind. I have not contacted the company, but their disclaimer on the website says to follow the packaging label. I would guess that...
  3. Good for you, June!! I think the best success comes from converting our previous gluten recipes. When I first started baking gluten-free, I tried a gluten-free banana bread recipe and it didn't taste quite right to me . . . but it wasn't the gluten-free part, it was the "this isn't my recipe" part.
  4. Shhhhhhh! . . . don't tell my hubby, but chickens are included in my retirement plan . . . along with a nice size property that needs to have one of those gator truck thingies to get around the property on.
  5. I haven't noticed any disruption in posting so I'm guessing you didn't have to evacuate . . . although, I'm also not the most observant so maybe you haven't posted in a week Sooooooo? . . . How's it goin'? We've got a bit of rain going right now . . . it's lovely . . . you've never seen so many happy people in Target listening to...
  6. You'd be surprised what you can find in the middle of nowhere . . . when I have returned to my hometown of 2500 to visit my parents, I have found gluten free items at their local, small, Krogers. The next biggest town of about 10,000 is a 15 minute drive away so I totally get the isolation thing. You may be surprised . . . hopefully
  7. Don't second guess yourself . . . he may not have been mature enough two years ago to keep himself on it even if he knew he felt better. It's hard enough for kids that have all the positive testing. The fact that he's committed to it without that is saying a lot.
  8. Ummm . . . twas not me that brought up the waffles . . . but I will answer with what we do . . . I buy Van's gluten-free waffles from time to time but my daughter is not a huge fan. One of her favorite things preglutenfree was the toaster waffle sticks. Cuisinart has a waffle maker that makes waffle sticks so that is what I bought to replace our...
  9. Hardboiled eggs? . . . and if you want to make people stare, dye them like Easter eggs and people will think they're left over from Easter . . . Do tree nuts cause the same problems for you as peanuts?
  10. I have a small upright freezer. I didn't want to get a chest because i thought I would lose things in the bottom (that's what happened to my mom and you would find ancient artifacts covered in frost/ice whenever there was the occassional clean-out). I like that I can get to everything easily but I think it's kind of too small. Plus on this one the shelves...
  11. Hope you are enjoying your Birthday, Scott!!!
  12. I knew the traveler would know what to do . . .
  13. Also, keep ALL your blood test results. You may not get a diagnosis today, but a future doc a couple of years from now may be willing to do it based on the old blood tests. My daughter's GI thinks that it will be a matter of time before the endoscopy part is eliminated. Five years ago, when my daughter was diagnosed, he thought it would be in 10 or...
  14. That's a shame. If you have problems with the GI, give your pediatrician/family doctor a chance. Offer "before gluten free" and "after (6 months) gluten free" blood test results and any resolution in symptoms and improve growth as your evidence. You may not get a "Celiac" diagnosis, but you may be able to get "Gluten Intolerant - This child needs to be...
  15. This may be helpful . . . or not Open Original Shared Link We used to grow about abajillion tomatos when I was a kid. Mom would can tomato juice to be used year round. She would cut of the stemmy part and cook them whole in boiling water . . . I have not a clue as to how long. She would run them through a ricer (I believe that's device bartful...
  16. Just letting you know what I have dealt with through our school system . . . My daughter is formally diagnosed so she is eligible for a gluten free lunch through the school system. She had to have a doctor's note to be eligible. She was having symptoms during her fourth grade year. They were allowing the kids to bring snacks (think goldfish and graham...
  17. Mystery, I hope you will reconsider. There is a lot of help on this board and you will get it. There are vegetarians on here (ummm, not me ) that can help you navigate the ins and outs of gluten freedomness, vegetarily. I can understand wanting to shy away from "opinion" type threads as this was a rough start, but may I recommend posting in the...
  18. OK kids . . . Don't make me pull this car thread over Let's all take a deep breath. You all are reading waaayy too much into each other's responses. Perhaps we're still a little hyped up from all the political stuff. Let me give out some advice that I know you guys already know, but I'm going to do it anyway to make you guys think a little before...
  19. Not necessarily . . . I ran into it at a health food store the other day. You can check their website for locations, but it's not up-to-date as the store I saw it in wasn't listed. I think they are doing pretty well so I wouldn't be surprised to see it in more places . . . may take a while to get to you though.
  20. It's the bean flour . . . but I'm guessing you figured that out by now Some people like it just fine. I'm not one of them. It's worse in the raw dough than in the finished product (IMO), but there's an aftertaste thing in the finished product. Plus, heaven help me . . . I gotsta have me some raw dough

    ARCHIVED Chipotle

What excellent service. Not all franchise type establishments operate the same so if you got great service at that location, I would give them all your business. We had a Maggie Moo's (ice cream) that gave us great service like that and they got all of our ice cream business until they went under
  22. After my mom turned 40, she always told people she was celebrating the anniversary of her 39th birthday. I just celebrated the 9th anniversary of my 39th birthday. Perhaps I'll switch to dog years . . . I'm almost 7.
  23. Well, you've got a GI that has a mind set that it is Celiac disease and you had some improvement for the one month she was gluten free. Does the GI know that? Now that all the testing is done, I would ask the GI about diagnosing through a trial diet (and inform him she had done well the one month you tried it). The measure would be change in growth....
  24. While the gluten-free bread dough is much "thinner" than gluten bread dough, it's a pretty thick dough-like batter. I think it would burn up your hand mixer . . . maybe not the first or second time . . . but sooner than later . . . also depends on the quality of your hand mixer. I've got my kitchenAid and I've also got a cheapy (and I mean CHEAPY!) hand...
