  1. The weird thing was, I had to do a little work outside. Nothing too strenuous. I was outside maybe 45 minutes. It was really hot but I wasn't sweating. I attributed it to the fact that the humidity isn't too bad. When I came into the house, the sweat just started pouring off of me. I think it was just evaporating so fast when I was outside that I didn...
  2. Just thought I'd do a quick survey and see how hot everyone is . . . Here, now . . . 105 deg F (my car said it was 107, though).
  3. Hey . . . if you see any good trumpets or french horns let me know. Personally, I wouldn't know myself just by looking at them . . . but maybe you would. I would so love to be there.
  4. My son would sooooo go for this. He has an "I heart bacon" T-shirt that he wears constantly and gets lots of compliments on. We gave him bandaids for his birthday that looked like strips of bacon. Someone gave me a cupcake once that had maple icing and bacon crumbles on top. I gave it to my son who told me it was like eating a pancake/bacon desert....

    ARCHIVED Eating Out

We didn't eat out for a while (couple of months?). . . probably because I was knee deep in trying to figure it all out and quite honestly a little freaked out and self-conscious about the whole thing.
  6. Yeah . . . why is no one posting "crap on a cracker" on the what's for dinner thread?
  7. Had to go looking for picture of said dog . . . Here it is for everyone else who was as confused as I: He's a cutie . . . you need to add something to show the scale. I would have never guessed him as a 65 pounder.
  8. Richard, when the Angus burger first came out, the seasoning DID have wheat or barley or something in it. I don't know when they took it out. Prior to the Angus burger, my daughter use to get the occassional McD's burger without a bun. She did fine with it, but she's not overly sensitive. I do remember calling to ask the local McD's when they actually...
  9. Your kittehs are soooo thoughtful When my kitteh was just a wee kitteh, she could only use the litter box one time . . . then it was "full" and all the litter was piled up on one wee turd.
  10. We had the scope done but we didn't even know about the celiac disease at that point. We were trying to determine if she had EE. I will say the scoping was not bad at all and she did very well. That being said, I would go for the official diagnosis. (Yes, it has helped me at my daughter's school.) If the doc will give a diagnosis without the scope...

    ARCHIVED Emotional

I don't know why you should be embarrassed. Support groups are a wonderful thing. This board is a support group. It really helps to find out that there is a whole community of people willing to teach you what they know. It really helps emotionally to find out that you are not the only one going through this. You'll be surprised at how quickly you learn...
  12. Sunscreen and a bathing suit!! I don't have a list of food items to give you. I just wanted to suggest you look to see if there are some items that you absolutely can not take. Something like fruit may be confiscated . . . or it may only be confiscated if you were trying to bring it into the US. Take a look at the Customs Regulations for Jamaica...
  13. OK . . . I'm not a big fan of this article, but I feel compelled to discuss some of the points that are being jumped on . . . First, the gluten free diet can certainly be considered to be in fad diet mode right now . . . C'mon, would Miley Cyrus be eating gluten free otherwise? Would Dominos be trying to sell us a nonglutenfree-glutenfree pizza? Technically...

    ARCHIVED Acronyms

    GE = Gluten Eater
  15. Just made some fabulous caramel popcorn for a big group trip this weekend. Got asked for the recipe four times. You didn't mention butter in your milk/cheese/yogurt free. That's the only ingredient that I'm not sure if you use. It's this recipe from allrecipes.com Open Original Shared Link I used 2/3 cup butter instead of 1 cup and I used hot...
  16. Oh yeah!!! . . . I know how to do this!!
  17. If you are already a baker, then you are ahead of the game. Learning to bake AND bake gluten free at the same time would be a challenge. The homemade gluten free products are every bit as good as the gluten. It just takes the right combination of ingredients and a willingness to experiment. When I first started, I had very few end-products that...
  18. If he was IgA deficient (which is why you test total IgA), they would need to test IgG . . . and they did that.
  19. Does the doctor know all of his history that you listed for us? After my daughter was diagnosed, my son was screened. He had one number (total IGA - not specific for celiac) that came back a little high. Our doctor would have totally written it off except that my son is small. He didn't want to do an endoscopy because he thought there would be a high...
  20. There are members who will tell you that nothing is safe at McDonalds. Any restaurant that is not entirely gluten free will have a chance of cross-contamination. All those disclaimers aside, my daughter has the sundaes on occassion and is fine with them.
  21. Hi Laura, sorry to hear your rash is keeping you from getting a good night's sleep. Glad to hear your arms are clearing up. I just wanted to throw in that you should look for a couple of other items to limit if you are a DH'er (that's Dermatitis Herpetiformis'er NOT Designated Hitter ) I know that some people need to go low iodine and low SALS...
  22. At this point, I let my daughter make the call on how well she's feeling (she's 11 now). Her main symptom is nausea . . . and I don't know that it is always necessarily from Celiac Disease/CC. If she's had a large exposure (or long term exposure to small amounts) that actually sets of a long term (months) reaction of regurgitation. She actually doesn't...
  23. Aliciajoe, I just want to point out that this thread is very old . . . over 8 years. The original poster has not logged in (who knows if they have visited as a guest) since they made that post over 8 years ago. Hopefully, someone else with experience with CREST will join the conversation.
  24. which leads us right back to . . .
  25. Wow Irish, I had a total different take on this article. I thought it was stressing the fact that the gluten free diet is not a fad weight loss diet. If you need it for health purposes, wait until you have your testing done or you'll negate your results. Gluten free in a restaurant is totally different for someone who needs it medically than for...
