Darn210 replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was taking a trip down memory lane the other day . . . remember when tom use to post nekkid? (HubbaHubba) -
Ummmm . . . GeeEff, were you nibbling on the waitress again?

ARCHIVED Housekeepers - How Much Do You Pay?
Darn210 replied to love2travel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
They charge by the job here. We now live in a more affluent community than where we lived 10 years ago (about 10 miles away). We paid about $20/hour 10 years ago and now it would be about $35/hour if we were to have one . . . we don't. -
Welcome to the board Wendy. It will get better!!! When the intestines are damaged, not only are you not absorbing all your nutrients, you also aren't absorbing all your medication. As you start to heal, you may find that you don't need as much AD medication since you are now absorbing it properly. You may not need it at all as depression can be...

Uh-Oh . . . Ken tried to link to Amazon. Here is the name of the book. Look for it anywhere that sells books . . . perhaps at (but not limited to) Amazon-dot-com. The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health & Happiness

About once a month and we go to the same three places because we have had good luck there . . . PF Changs, Red Robin, and Five Guys. I let my daughter order for herself most of the time so that she gets experience talking to the wait staff.

ARCHIVED What Are Some Kid-Friendly Substitutes For
Darn210 replied to Blessedby3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Agreed on the Chex . . . I used in in my meatloaf. I didn't taste bad but it didn't taste right. I now use one part Glutino pretzels and one part Glutino crackers (the round ones/original flavor). Now my meatloaf tastes like it did before gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Healing Through A Chiropractor. Mmmhmm.
Darn210 replied to Melissa Palomo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OK . . . so here is a little information. It's not about Chiropractors, but about silent Celiac. The first link is the article from this website which discusses kids that were diagnosed, seemed to recover well enough to reintroduce gluten (you know, because they "outgrew" it) and the results of testing these same individuals as gluten-eating adults. ... -
ARCHIVED Healing Through A Chiropractor. Mmmhmm.
Darn210 replied to Melissa Palomo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
From Open Original Shared Link In some patients, ingestion of small amounts of gluten will not produce overt symptoms. Some patients experience a reduction in response to gluten during their teens -
ARCHIVED Question About Recovery And Ttg On Gfd
Darn210 replied to cd42's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had a follow-up tTG 6 months after being on the gluten free diet. Hers were in the normal level by that time. I have seen some kids (on this forum) where the tTG's were still elevated but had at least come down some. Has your child's level not come down at all? It's good that her symptoms are resolving. I would double check for gluten... -
ARCHIVED Spring Break Kids Camp: Do I Laugh Or Cry?!
Darn210 replied to mamaupupup's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I hope that you can get it all worked out. It sounds like a great class for the kids. Kudos to the director for being so accomodating. -
ARCHIVED Kids In Elementary School
Darn210 replied to Minette's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Of course it depends on your child and it depends on your school... My daughter was 6 when she was diagnosed. She was at the tail end of Kindergarten. She was not afraid to talk to adults and she picked up the do's and don'ts pretty quickly. I initially talked to the school nurse (a letter from the doctor was added to her file). The school nurse... -
ARCHIVED Red Dye # 40?
Darn210 replied to Cortneysmibro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately, it may be more than just one thing. Keeping a list is a good idea. Some of those items you may be able to add back later . . . some of those items you may decide that you don't WANT to add back. Prior to my daughter being diagnosed (and for a while afterwards), she would react to blue dye. Of course being a kid that's what she was attracted... -
ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
Darn210 replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might also want to call the doctor's office and get on their cancelation list. If you've got the flexibility to get in there on short notice after someone calls and cancels, they might be able to see you much sooner. Waiting can be so stressful. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Gastroparesis?
Darn210 replied to Kamie's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Kamie, I do know that there are others that have been diagnosed with both, as every so often I see a thread on Gastroparesis. (You may want to do some searching on the board). However, I don't know how active previous posters to this topic are. I don't want to get your hopes up but I did want to share my daughter's experience. She was originally... -
ARCHIVED Lame Things I'm Mourning!
Darn210 replied to mamaupupup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, empty wine bottles may be scattered about the kitchen piled up in the recycle bin hidden in the pockets of the winter coats available, however, I find that I need handles to help steady myself keep me from falling over provide uniform pressure. -
ARCHIVED Lame Things I'm Mourning!
Darn210 replied to mamaupupup's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OK, so it's not a toaster, but it's something lame . . . I can't use my grandmother's old wooden rolling pin. Now here's the lame part . . . it's kinda warped anyway and never did a particularly good job of rolling nice/even/flat dough I still have it though . . . I'm going to use it as a decoration . . . somewhere . . . probably should be in... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Ciders
Darn210 replied to bpat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I vote for Woodchuck as well. I'm not gluten free, my daughter is. I did do a trial diet for 6 months just to see if I noticed any changes (I did not). During that time, I switched from the occasional beer to the occasional Woodchuck. After my trial was over, I stuck with the hard cider. I just prefer it in general to beer. -
ARCHIVED Why Are My Posts Not Showing Up?
Darn210 replied to varthurs's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Well, they are there now. You have to have had 10 posts approved by a moderator before your posts will show up by themselves. If I looked at the timing correctly, your 2 questions were probably post number 10 and post number 11. Neither of which will show up until a 10th post is approved. If you post number 11 (12, 13, etc) before number 10 is approved... -
ARCHIVED Naming A Gluten Free Baked Goods Business
Darn210 replied to fenifur's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I do to . . . because I'm thinking ahead to a logo with flowers in it or some sort of flower arrangement looking thing that uses baked goods instead of flowers . . . or something like that. -
Just agreeing here that we did not care for the corn pasta . . . also no issues with Tinkyada (although my daughter is not super sensitive).

ARCHIVED I'm Just Making Sure We All Like Red Robin
Darn210 replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
One of our favorite places to go. We have two that we go to and had good experiences at both. -
Did your meal come out on the "different" plates? If I remember correctly, it says PF Changs on the rim
-
You didn't eat the soy sauce on the table did you? They have gluten free soy sauce but you have to request it. My daughter's comes' out in a red sauce dish/bowl. We've never had a problem, but that doesn't mean that it can never happen. Hope you are feeling better soon.
