  1. Nope . . . no stupid questions. Definition: A gastroenterologist (GI) is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating disorders of the entire gastrointestinal tract. Here are some more . . . CC - Cross Contamination DH - Dear Husband OR Dermatitis Herpetiformis DS/DD - Dear Son/Dear Daughter on second thought . . . GI can also...
  2. We have a shared kitchen so therefore our microwave is shared. I keep it wiped down but I also don't ever just put my daughters food on the glass turntable-thingy. It's always on a plate or paper plate. We haven't had any problems in this area.
  3. This is me from another thread. There are a few pitch-in dinners that we go to now where it is requested . . . I don't even have a say on what I want to bring
  4. Welcome MzPlaz!! Ask lots of questions . . . we have lots of answers . . . although sometimes conflicting but you'll figure out what works best for you. Whatcha got a hankerin' for? Just a few of my daughter's faves: Tinkyada pasta, Glutino pretzels, Kinnikinnick glazed donuts, pancakes from Pamela's Pancake mix, Betty Crocker gluten...
  5. We don't have Wegman's here . . . were these spices in a serve yourself kind of bin? Those always scare me off. How bad do you react? If it isn't too bad, I would probably let your system settle and try it again but without the yeast roll since you do sometimes have problems with yeast. If you are having a horrendous reaction, I would take it to some...
  6. If you are that sensitive (I know that Pamela's is a dedicated facility) then perhaps you should make your own broth. I have heard that the Food for Life tortillas had problems. If you've been eating a lot of these, then your reactions to all the other foods may actually be an ongoing reaction from the tortillas. Just a theory.
  7. I wouldn't have guessed that makeup would be such a volatile subject. We seemed to have covered the bases here and before this topic goes downhill any further, it is being locked. To the original poster, Ally7, reguarding this thread: Take the information/suggestions that will help you, leave the rest behind.
  8. If you're traveling with high school students, then you really do need the creme de menthe ones.
  9. This is the recipe that I used for cake: Open Original Shared Link Taste was fine, texture was so-so. Kids liked it but I thought it was too "spongey". Not sure how to describe it. It was the only recipe I had so that's what I used. One day when I was making it, I accidently used potato starch instead of tapioca flour. I knew I made the mistake...
  10. THIS IS SOOOOO TRUE!!!! When using rice flour the grittiness factor in the end product is extremely dependent on the fineness of the grind. This is extremely noticeable in something like a cake. The rice flour in the Asian stores are a lot finer than what I have found at whole foods. Last time I bought some, it was 99cents/lb. Agreed. When I first...
  11. Bubba's Mom, Just wanting to wish you well on your upcoming trip/appointments. Also just wanted to share that when I switched docs for my daughter, I spent days coordinating all the testing that was done by different hospitals and doctors and getting copies sent to the new doc. I took copies with me which was good because they had received none...
  12. Lots of good info so far. I just wanted to add . . . Gluten doesn't have to come from your main ingredients . . . condiments/butter that had been used prior to going gluten free can become contaminated with bread crumbs. Wooden cutting boards or wooden spoons, colanders, scratched teflon pans, etc that were used for gluten items in the past...
  13. Well said.
  14. There is a FAQ section at the top of each forum. Here is a direct link to it: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/forum-13/announcement-3-frequently-asked-questions-about-celiac-disease/ You can find a list of common symptoms along with a lot of other info. Quite honestly, the longer I've been at this (on this site) the question becomes "What ISN...
  15. This is a reminder to adhere to Board Rule #1: Do not be abusive or otherwise out of line towards other board members. Show respect for each board member, no matter what you think of their views.
  16. This is what my daughter does . . . then she butters it and puts MORE cinnamon and sugar on it . . . because when you're 10, there is no such thing as too much cinnamon and sugar . . . also, no such thing as too much cinnamon and sugar when you're in your 40's either
  17. Try this link instead for the book Just Two More Bites Open Original Shared Link You can't link to Amazon from here . . . they've spammed us in the past.
  18. Only reason I joined was to look at pictures of Jess's kitchen remodel. I've got a fake name with a fake birthday so nobody can find me unless I give them the info. I'm never on . . . yet. I suppose I'll use it to keep an eye on the kids once they get the bug to start using it. Now the whole Words With Friends Ap for the iphone . . . that's a different...
  19. I remember . . . it sounded familiar and I was going to Google it . . . got side tracked . . . happens all the time now. Yes . . . and . . . yes. I'm not a big fan of crowds, I'm staying away. Lots of talk of the zip line. $10, 15 second ride, 3 hour wait . . . thanks but nooooooooo.
  20. Maybe you have a grazer. My son is a grazer (he's not Celiac, btw). He's always been a little small. I never could get him to eat real meals. I'd keep him in his high chair or at the table FOREVER just to try to get some food in him. My pediatrician told me to lay off that I was stressing him out. He has always preferred snacking in between meals...
  21. I just want to clarify that you won't see the term "gluten" listed as an ingredient. You need to look for "wheat", "rye", "barley", and "oats". Those are the biggies, but other terms can be used such as "malt" which is commonly derived from barley. There is a FAQ section here that addresses safe/unsafe ingredients: https://www.celiac.com/celiac...
  22. Exactly like Peter and Skylark said . . . . . . my daughter eats them without any issues.
  23. Ahhhh . . . that's an excellent idea and one that I will keep for future reference . . . my daughter will be getting her first phone this summer (and really?, is the countdown necessary? . . . yeah, she's excited.)
  24. Pretty much what my daughter's GI told me when she was diagnosed. He was an advocate of taking the diet seriously, but don't make it the focus of your life.
  25. I've done a couple of trial diets . . . one for 6 weeks and one for 6 months. I had no problems going off and then back on. I've done (temporary) gluten free with my daughter at times . . . when it's most difficult for her . . . On vacations or just a trip to a restaraunt. At restaraunts (especially if it's someplace we haven't gone before), I'll get...
