ARCHIVED A Farewell... Beating My Symptoms
Darn210 replied to josh052980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Personally, I liked your response. It clarifies your position . . . and hers . . . for anyone that will come along and read that thread. However, at this point, if you get another response/attack, I would probably ignore it. I doubt there would be anything to gain from engaging her further. My two cents on THIS thread . . . Josh, glad to hear you... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Leaching From Egg Noodles Into Broth?
Darn210 replied to DickS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Skylark, that's a great way to drive the message home and something that we can use to tell our family and friends when they suggest "a little won't hurt" or "surely you don't need a separate toaster"... -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original

ARCHIVED Feel So Bad, Was Careless
Darn210 replied to stanleymonkey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Makes you really have to read between the lines, eh? I think every mom of a gluten free kid has been there, done that. We learn our lessons (no one wants to be the reason why their kid is suffering) and become more diligent. Hopefully the kids will learn one, too. I know it may be hard to do, but you need to point out to her that it was the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Help Please? 13 Year Old Son Sneaking Wheat!
Darn210 replied to candygirl69's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
First of all, I would initially shut off the lunch account until he earned some trust/privileges back. In the meantime, I would (like someone else suggested) take a look at what the canteen sold to determine what (if any) safe options there would be. Then if he does earn back canteen priviliges, he knows what he can get there. Does he do much label... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Oz Today Is gluten-free Stuff
Darn210 replied to 1974girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is smack dab how I feel...well, except for that part about generally liking him Why can't they dedicate a whole show to a subject? . . . because if they are covering 5 different topics, they get five times the people tuning in to to watch. I didn't watch today but in the past I have been really annoyed with his coverage . . . in general, the... -
ARCHIVED Five Guys Burgers And Fries For The Win
Darn210 replied to josh052980's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've seen/read (can't remember where, I'm getting old) where they get suggestions of things to add to their menu and they always turn it down. They do what they do and they do it well, why mess with success . . . that's my take away on their position and quite honestly, I'm good with that. When I walk in there, I know exactly what I'm going to find. For... -
ARCHIVED Is Your House Completely gluten-free? If Only One Of You Has Celiac?
Darn210 replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We are a shared household. All baking is gluten free. There is no wheat flour or wheat flour mixes in the house. Almost all cooked meals are gluten free. The two meals that come to mind that aren't are grilled cheese and french toast (so that I can use the cheap bread). Everything else I would consider to be too much trouble to do separately. I... -
Bubba's Mom, I don't have any advice. I just wanted to send some moral support your way. I hope the Mayo clinic will take a look at the big picture and provide you with some answers and some solutions . . . and I hope it all happens quickly. Hang in there and let us know how things go.

ARCHIVED Just Trying Gluten-Free Way
Darn210 replied to corky21's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ravenwoodglass makes a good point. Did you stop your PPI meds cold turkey? I don't know what is the right way to do this. Maybe someone with experience with PPI's could chime in. Would cutting the dose in half and tapering off be better? -
ARCHIVED Just Trying Gluten-Free Way
Darn210 replied to corky21's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Corky, Rice and Potatos are fine. A gluten free diet is not the same as the Paleo diet. If you want to try gluten free, then try gluten free. If you want to try Paleo, then I suggest researching it first and deciding if it has any benifits for you. You don't have to take the suggestions of someone (including me) off of a forum such as this. Now... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Nail Fungus?
Darn210 replied to Swingin' Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just an FYI . . . this thread was initiated over 5 years ago and the OP hasn't been on for over 3 years. Feel free to discuss nail fungus and home remedies, but I wouldn't bother trying to engage the OP. -
. . . and for what it's worth, you only have one warning. When a new member breaks the same rule multiple times (within a relatively short period of time)it will usually result in just one warning. We make the judgement call of "Are they spamming the boards/promoting a business" or did they not look at the board rules? The professional spammers are pretty...

I'd switch too . . . I don't expect everyone I run into to know what is or isn't gluten free, but if they are in an industry that must cater to peoples needs/allergies, then they at least had better be willing to learn, investigate and accommodate. After my daughter was diagnosed, I checked in with my daughter's dentist. On the spot, the only item they...

ARCHIVED Lunchables Question
Darn210 replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just an FYI Many companies have policies for disclosing gluten on their ingredient lists. The three big ones are Kraft, Unilever, and ConAgra. If you read their ingredient list, the generic terms like "natural flavors" or "spices" will have something like a "(derived from barley)" if the barley was indeed part of the natural flavoring. We have no... -
ARCHIVED Lunchables Question
Darn210 replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It depends on an individuals sensitivity level. Some people need to avoid shared facilities, some people don't. Our home is not gluten free. The wheat eaters have a cabinet that contains bread, snack crackers, cereal, etc. So technically, like my good friend Peter says, my house is a shared facility. If you've been doing well on the gluten free diet... -
ARCHIVED A Milestone
Darn210 replied to egallag's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's one of those stories that only a small percentage of the population would truly understand and appreciate . . . and you found them here. I'm glad things are going well for you. Welcome to the board. -
We love our local RR. They take good care of us when we are there. My daughter usually gets the burger and fries. I doubt that she will ever eat the gluten free buns. We went to a restaraunt in Boston once and they provided a gluten free bun for my daughter's burger. I was not expecting it and tried to send it back. They assured me it was gluten free...

ARCHIVED Indianapolis Or Carmel, Indiana
Darn210 replied to freeatlast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Here is their website: Open Original Shared Link You can sign up for their electronic newsletter which will list local events and meetings. Most of the meetings that I've seen listed are for those who are new to the diet but they do have other events. -
ARCHIVED New With Celiac
Darn210 replied to StarSki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
OK, baking . . . did you bake a lot before? This is my take on baking. It was the same with the gluten versions of things. There are some decent store bought cookies. The store bought cookie mixes produce a better cookie than the store bought cookies. The totally homemade versions make the best cookies. In my opinion, the mixes that I have used that... -
ARCHIVED New With Celiac
Darn210 replied to StarSki's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi StarSki, Welcome to the board. You have found a great resource. My daughter was diagnosed at age 6 so I can totally relate. Do you know if your daughter has problems with dairy? Many Celiacs do initially (and some need to remove it permanently). My daughter did not appear to have issues although the pedGI had us use LacTaid milk and Lactaid... -
ARCHIVED Pop Chips Gluten Free? Bad Reaction.
Darn210 replied to Kippen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Double check all your labels!! This sounds just like what happened to my daughter. Her symptoms started coming back until she was almost as bad as she was just prior to diagnosis. I thought it was an additional food intolerance and started looking for a pattern. I think I may have eliminated dairy at that point. Went back to the GI who was no help ... -
ARCHIVED Omg! Kinnickkinnick Pizza Crusts!
Darn210 replied to Monklady123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We prefer the Udi's to the Kinnikinnick . . . but in all cases, I recommend the pizza pan that has the holes in the bottom. It really helps crispen up the crust. Otherwise, I think the center is kind of soggy. -
ARCHIVED How To Use Frozen Bread
Darn210 replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Couple seconds in the microwave wrapped in a paper towel. Flip it over and a few more seconds in the microwave. If I'm making a sandwich out of it, I let it come up to room temp while it is still in the paper towel (it absords the moisture.) -
Those nuggets look great . . . my daughter will love them. She has had the grilled chicken (bunless) in the past and also the waffle fries without any problems.
