  1. I found that when I was trying gluten free recipes instead of converting, I was dissappointed because they didn't remotely taste like what I was familiar with . . . well that's because the overall recipe was so different. As a result, I prefer to convert my recipes. It usually takes a couple of tries but usually the attempts are still OK (ie edible),...
  2. Bartful . . . I don't know how long you've been gluten free but I see that you've only been a member since June. It took almost 10 months for my daughter's symptoms to completely subside. Everytime there was a flair (about once a month), I was trying to figure out what she had that caused the problem. Also spent some time trying to figure out a secondary...
  3. Jess, take a look at the "Kindle Daily Deal" on Amazon. Everyday, they discount one of the ebooks so that you can get it for a pretty cheap price. You can sign up to get a daily email or just check it daily. Love my kindle . . . but I still get books at the library and buy cheap paperbacks at yard sales. Oh . . . and our library just added the ability...
  4. True Dat. Sorry BE didn't work out, Jess . . . but glad you enjoyed "the ride" . . . :blushing emoticon:
  5. Do I look refreshed?? . . . just back from the annual girls trip to Hilton Head. Man does time fly when there is no homework, no kids, no dinner preperation, no hubby . . . ahhhhhhhh. GKnick!! Sorry to hear about all the troubles over thar!! I must admit that my first thought on Al-Zee was mono but I would have thought they would have tested for...

    ARCHIVED P.f. Chang's

LOVE LOVE LOVE the spicy chicken and the beef with broccoli . . . and the chocolate dome A word of caution though . . . first time we ate there, my daughter was feeling miserable and we were concerned it was a reaction but upon review and lack of developing symptoms, we decided that she TOTALLY over did it. We now get the chocolate dome to go so...
  7. My daughter's favorite snack . . . apple slices dipped in peanut butter. I prefer apple slices with a small piece of smoked gouda cheese with each slice. (I need the protein to make me feel full.) Hardboiled eggs. We love love love homemade chex mix . . . but we go through it pretty fast.
  8. Oh yeah . . . true dat.
  9. Just to clarify . . . there are no repercussions for one or two warnings . . . three warnings can get you banned.
  10. What would we do without Nik reminding us of these important matters? Arrrgggghhh!
  11. Such a ladies man!!!!! . . . I mean rooster!!! . . . Who wouldn't go for blue ears???
  12. If you are just giving this a trial run to see if you feel better and don't know yet if this will be a permanent lifestyle change, then I would minimize your investment as far as cookware goes. Use aluminum foil or parchment paper on baking sheets. If you can truly scrub a pan/pot clean (stainless steel pot) then just give it a good thorough scrub and then...
  13. This is the one that Sylvia posted at the beginning of the year. It doesn't have the baker's chocolate but it does have choc chips . . . and cocoa. Thought I would post it so that it was listed with the other options as it is an awesome (and super rich) cake. Open Original Shared Link
  14. Too Cute!!! Can we get a pic of your roo?
  15. Actually . . . I really like the looks of the one that Rachelle linked to . . . but here is another option that is a hit at our house. I use the Pamela's wheatfree/glutefree bread mix and mix it up as the sweet bread version (directions are on the package). Then I mix about 1/2 cup sugar with a Tbls or so of cinnamon (or whatever looks good to you)...
  16. I don't think I would do it. The only reason that I can think of to do it is to have a doctor's note backing you up if you have issues at school (My daughter's school eliminated all (gluten)snacking in her class room because her doctor wrote a note. It would not have happened otherwise.) Depending on a college's requirements (I know that's a long time...
  17. I think I'll wait until I get my laundry finished before I post again . . . now, I would LOVE and new washer and dryer . . . how can I get that without doing major water damage to my house? Jess!!! What a racket!!! How's the local news? Any up-n-coming news achor needing to make a name for themselves? The news here did a piece not too long ago...
  18. Also . . . I just wanted to send out a Public Service Announcement . . . I'm two posts away from a major phlip. I want to apologize in advance for whomever is adversely affected. I hope it's not me
  19. Holy Moly, Jess!!! Do you have any lawyer friends? Someone that could write an intimidating letter? . . . you need to capture the website instructions somehow before they are "updated".
  20. Yes, but think about how much quieter it would be? Hope all goes well Loey . . . I really admire your positive spirit. Have a good (alcohol-free) weekend.
  21. Here are a couple of things I've done in the past . . . I let them pick out a predetermined number of pieces of (safe) candy from their stash and the rest they trade in for a toy (one year it was a Webkinz). I let them pick out a predetermined number of pieces of (safe) candy from their stash and I buy the rest off of them. My daughter...
  22. Actually, the McFlurry machine uses a "new" mixer spoon for each McFlurry. The mixer/spoon becomes the spoon that the customer uses to eat their McFlurry. I actually like their technique better than DQ's blizzard as the parts that come in contact with your food are all disposable (one time use only/part of what the customer gets). I'm not saying there...
  23. The Hunger Games trilogy . . . the best that I have read in a long time. Also loved The Help and everything that I have read from Jodi Piccoult
  24. Teach her to research. She's going to have to do it anyway. She needs to learn to read labels, do searches on the internet, order at restaraunts and most importantly, plan ahead. To your daughter: So you're going to "Amy's" house. Will you need a snack while you are there? What does Amy usually have on hand? Yogurt? Microwave popcorn? Fruit? ...
  25. First of all, you do not need to go through testing if you are perfectly satisfied with your trial gluten free diet resulting in the positive changes that you have experienced. Second, if you do want to do testing, you will need more than a week's worth of gluten. You will need 2 to 3 months of daily gluten intake in order to have a chance at a positive...
