  1. What is this thing you call "water"?
  2. You're probably not going to like this . . . but my advice would be to skip the bread machine and get yourself a Kitchen aid mixer. I got both in the beginning. I use the KitchenAid all the time. The bread machine hasn't made it out of the pantry in a couple of years. The KitchenAid can handle mixing gluten free bread dough. Unlike gluten bread,...
  3. Burn ban here . . . guess you don't get too many of those. Ice cream is OK though no ban on that . . . although there probably should be for me.
  4. Manufactures are not required to list the possibility of cross contamination. If an individual is highly sensitive, they may have to call the manufacturer to determine if there is a cross contamination possibility. Manufacturing processes change on a regular basis. A site that sells products from a variety of manufacturers is not required, nor would they...
  5. If a corn product has anything added to it to make a finished product, it will be listed in the ingredients. Read the ingredient list.
  6. Where did you see that corn is easily contaminted? It's common knowledge that oats are, which is why Celiacs that eat oats should be eating certified gluten-free oats.
  7. That's not what Karen was saying. Karen said: Read the ingredients. Just because it's a corn-based product doesn't mean something else hasn't been added to the "recipe". If it has, it will be listed in the ingredients. Read the ingredients.
  8. From the exact same article that you are quoting. (The bolding is mine) The term "gluten" refers to a group of protein particles in grains. In wheat plants, the gluten is known as gliadin, while the gluten in barley is hordein. Rye plants store protein as secalin, oats create a storage protein known as avenin, rice gluten is known as oryzenin and the...
  9. How do you decide where to draw that line? How many controversial products (ingredients) are you going to list? The top three? The top ten? Who's going to do the testing to rank them? The three that everyone (Celiacs/Gluten Sensitives) has to avoid are wheat, rye and barley.
  10. I was actually thinking vacuum cleaner If you're vacumming crumbs and you've already hosed it out, you might want to use a shop vac.
  11. You need to read more posts . . . Anytime there is a member expressing their concern that they are still having problems, the active membership offers their advice on eating cleanly and investigating additional food intolerances (including dairy, soy, nightshades and yes, corn). That is what a forum does . . . it shares personal experiences. One size does...
  12. Wow . . . take care, Bartfull. Hope the fire is put out ASAP. Makes me have to think about what I would take. It wouldn't hurt to actually have that kind of plan . . . you don't usually get a whole lot of time to think about it.
  13. Did she have a positive blood test when she was diagnosed? If so, you might want to look at a yearly recheck to make sure the antibodies are staying where they should.
  14. Just got a down poor . . . not near enough to solve our drought issues . . . but you should have seen us all run to the windows like we've never seen rain before. What IS this wet stuff falling from the sky?
  15. After looking around a bit . . . apparently it' 9.
  16. Blue is a standard thread. Light blue is a standard thread that you have already read the posts in . . . there have been no new posts since the last time you read it. Green is a thread that's getting a lot of action. It's a "hot topic". It has more than a certain number of posts . . . I can't remember the number, it's like 11 or 14 or something....
  17. My daughter had reduced motility. "Gastroparesis" was tossed about. Her GI said that it can be caused by Celiac Disease and can resolve once gluten free. The explanation was that the celiac disease caused nerve damage (slowing down the digestive process) and once the nerves regenerated (which can take some time) the gastroparesis will resolve. He thought...
  18. Hi Ron, Thank you for your suggestion. This has come up before, I believe, but in reference to the SCD diet. There was a discussion at that time amongst the administrator and mods. The specialty diets like SCD, Paleo, GAPS, etc are a subset of what we do here. They also have a tendency to wax and wane in discussion depending on the active membership...
  19. First of all, let me ask which mixes you have tried . . . ?? I prefer homemade compared to the mixes that I have tried. This is the recipe that I use: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/gluten-free-yellow-cake/detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e11=gluten%20free%20yellow%20cake&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Home%20Page Except...
  20. We were suppose to have several days of really good chances/percentages of rain . . . they are drying up and blowing away Can't tell you the last time I was hoping for rain this much . . . hoping to be inconvenienced or have any outside plans cancelled at the last minute!!! Mango, what part of the world are you in these days?
  21. I like snap-lock . . . wide variety of sizes. They have a seal so they don't leak fluids (or take on fluids) like when you throw something into a cooler. They're rectangular so they "fit" better in my cabinets, cooler, fridge . . .
  22. Congratulations to Timothy!! Change Timothy to Smackl (that's what I call my son on-line). Change Karate to Tae Kwon Do. Change a couple of the dates/ages and you've got my son . . . including the ADHD and the instructor training program. I love it!!! Smackl was never destined for a team sport and this program has been perfect for him. Congrats...
  23. I know this is a few years down the road, Karen . . . but doesn't it give you a warm fuzzy feeling that you'll be able to eat dinner at his house once he's out of the nest?
  24. Yep . . . engineer . . . or at least I was in a former (prekids) life. Now I'm chief of "some assembly required" home projects and the occasional guesser as to what is causing that sound in the car.
