I need help trying to figure out some new symptoms that I am experiencing. My knee swells off and on, all of my joints are achey and I have dull pain in my shoulder, back, and hips. Whenever I sit for 20 minutes or more, I become very stiff and sore. Getting up becomes hard. My muscles in my arms are weak. After I get up and move around for a bit, the stiffness...

ARCHIVED I Don't Like The Breads Yet
stargazer replied to bakingbarb's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I was diagnosed with Celiac last year. It has taken me a whole year to finally start liking the taste of the gluten free breads. I tried eveything and baked so many kinds of breads, but I hated everything! Now my taste has finally started to change, and I am finding some of the things I hated, don't taste too bad now. Maybe it takes time for your body to... -

ARCHIVED It's Not Celiac For Me
stargazer replied to AFH's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have Barrett's Esophagus. This occurred after 7 years of having really bad acid reflux. When I was diagnosed with Celiac last year, my acid reflux almost completely stopped when I went on a gluten free diet. I go for a EGD every couple of years to check for cancer, and I still take my Prevacid and Zantac to keep the reflux from returning. It was amazing... -
I have been gluten free for one year, and a vegetarian for seven years. I am now lactose intolerant (this just started a couple of months ago!). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get enough protein into my diet? I don't eat dairy at all (the lactaid pills don't work for me, they make sick). Cheese doesn't make me as sick as the milk, but it does make me...

ARCHIVED My 2 Children Argue So Much They Are Making Me Crazy!
stargazer replied to gdobson's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I have 3 daughters, ages 18, 16, and 14. The two younger ones have argued and fought since they were big enough to do it! Even though they are teenagers now, nothing has changed. Over the years I have tried anything and everything, but had no luck in stopping the madness!! I gave up. Now when they start, I go to my room for a mom's timeout. That way, I stay... -
ARCHIVED Poor Absorption Of Nutrients When On gluten-free Diet?
stargazer replied to frec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Maybe you have refactory celiac that doesn't respond completely to the gluten free diet. This would explain why your nutrient absorption isn't improving. If you have a type of refactory celiac, then your intestines wouldn't heal. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free For A Month And A Half, Casein Free For 2 Weeks...
stargazer replied to Panopticism's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe you are having a reaction to corn. I also have a problem with dairy and when I accidentally eat some, I get really bloated and have lots of gas that lasts for probably a week and a half to two weeks sometimes. The bloating and gas then goes away. Maybe the casein hasn't completely cleared out yet. -
ARCHIVED Not Convinced I Have It
stargazer replied to smousie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Some people have Celiac with no symptoms, but the damage is still be done to their intestines. They are at greater risk of getting cancer later on because they let it go on for so long without knowing. -

I keep my PB in the fridge, but I microwave for 10 seconds before using. It softens it a bit. -
ARCHIVED How To Lower Cholesterol?
stargazer replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi, when I was first diagnosed with high cholesterol, I went on a strict diet and exercised daily. After six months of this, my doctor ran the test again. Guess what, my cholesterol was 50 points higher!!! After this news, I was so discouraged. I did some digging and found out that there was 10 people on my mothers side with high cholesterol, and 8 people... -
ARCHIVED Bruises Easily...anyone Else?
stargazer replied to Cat5's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Count me in too. I bruise easily, and they last a long time. Maybe my vitamin levels are low. I will have to check it out. If anyone has any other ideas please speak up. Thanks. Oh, by the way, welcome to the board. -
ARCHIVED Anemia And Celiac?
stargazer replied to Kmbishop03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was dealing with anemia for several years on and off. The doctor couldn't figure out why I was always anemic. I was taking supplements and eating the right foods. She didn't know that I had Celiac at that time. Once I was diagnosed and went gluten free, the anemia cleared up! My body could actually absorb the iron that I was eating. -

ARCHIVED Tried My First Rice Bread
stargazer replied to stitchy woman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't found a prepackaged gluten free bread that I like! I like the homemade bread much better. Try baking your own. -
Hi Grannie, I was diagnosed with Celiac in Nov 2006. Until my diagnosis, I was losing weight because my body couldn't absorb any nutrients. After I went gluten free, and my intestines healed a little bit, I began to gain weight again. The weight I gained went right to the waist and abdomen! Everywhere else stayed the same size! I don't eat a lot of grains...

I just got back from a train trip a few weeks ago. We traveled on the California Zephyr. I was able to have just plain eggs in the morning with fresh fruit, a salad at lunch (I brought my own dressing), and at dinner, I usually had a salad, the vegetable of the night (plain of course), and just plain steamed fish (none of the other meats were trust worthy...

ARCHIVED Buying A Mixer....
stargazer replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a Kitchen Aide classic (5 qt. bowl). I absolutely love it! I don't think I could live without it! I use is all the time. The splatter shield is really nice, it saves a lot of clean up. Before I got the Kitchen Aide, I went through at least 15 hand mixers. They don't hold up or have the power that the Kitchen Aide has. It works great for the gluten... -
ARCHIVED Getting Glutened By My Vitamin... But Where's The Gluten?!
stargazer replied to mesmerize's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi mesmerize, I had the same problem when I first went gluten free. I don't think they list all the inactive ingredients that they use to "stabalize" the tablet when making it. You have to call the company. If they aren't straight forward, then switch to another brand. Good luck. -
ARCHIVED Just A Few Questions
stargazer replied to karma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Karma, were you tested with just the blood test? A biopsy is more accurate. You should try the gluten free diet and see how you feel. As for the labels, you have to look for gluten free, not just wheat because gluten is found in wheat, barley, rye, and oats (through cross contamination). There are several good books about Celiac disease that I found at... -
Hi Deb, I am sorry you are not doing well. When I had gallbladder problems, I did have D all the time. Especially if I ate something greasy or with fat. Once my surgery was over, I continued to have the same problem on and off for at least 6 months (but not as bad). Then my body got used to not having a gallbladder to help with digestion. I am fine now. I...

ARCHIVED When Does It Stop!?
stargazer replied to snowcoveredheart's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi snowcoveredheart, when I first went gluten free, the digestive part was fantastic, but everything else in my body seemed to be out of sorts. I had trouble sleeping, headaches, muscle aches, and mentrual problems. I think my body was going through detox. It lasted for a couple of weeks, than everything seemed to calm down. Maybe our bodies need time to...
