  1. Keep the house (and your car and your purse) stocked with delicious gluten-free food. There's a blog that was full of gluten-free crockpot recipes, maybe that would help with the dinners? Open Original Shared Link I also put a sticker on my fridge that says "eat well, feel well" to remind me that I don't want to feel awful just for a cracker.
  2. Great news! I remember the day that DD wasn't the thinnest in her ballet class anymore, such a relief!
  3. This is the recipe we love! Open Original Shared Link
  4. We are almost entirely gluten-free. My husband and oldest daughter have prepackaged gluteny foods that they bring to work/school and they occasionally have pizza delivered but that is it. We donated all our old teflon, plastics, toaster, breadmaker, and wooden things (plus things that are just hard to clean like colanders and flour sifters). With...
  5. What a great post! I love hearing about all these supportive people! My extended family is amazing. Most family holidays and are now completely gluten-free. My parents, sister, and closest friends keep gluten-free foods at their houses for when my daughter and I visit too. And my husband is amazing. His thoughtfulness constantly amazes me...
  6. I just called the companies on the products we used. We had to stop using Aveeno products. I have three children, one with celiac, one we suspect (too young for accurate testing), and one that doesn't have it. The one who doesn't have it eats gluten at school but gluten-free at home. She's okay with it. We talked about it when we first go the...
  7. There are some gluten-free play dohs. We usually just use Moon Sand though, it is more fun! The lotions don't go through the skin, the concern is that they'll put their hands in their mouths and ingest it that way. It is up to you how careful you want to be. We keep all our lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc gluten-free because we're trying to minimize...
  8. We make sure our hotel room has a microwave and mini fridge and we look up the local health food stores before we go. We try to only travel with the food we need for the car (cereal bars, juice boxes, and chips) and buy everything else at our destination because our car is to small for a cooler.
  9. A gluten-free diet isn't going to hurt anyone. Those people are clearly alarmists. If you're concerned, consider a trial when she's school aged (that's what we plan to do for my 2 y/o). People on message boards can be big boogers sometimes. Sorry.
  10. Envirokids Koala Bars. The kids love them and they're so nice for on-the-go snacking.
  11. For Mac n cheese, I make the Ancient Harvest quinoa pasta and then melt a little butter and a piece of American cheese on top of it. My picky eaters love it and it only takes a few seconds to make it if you keep cooked pasta on hand in the fridge. Also, the girls love quesadillas. I use Mission corn tortillas and American cheese for a basic one and...
  12. My daughter's DOCTOR was the one who recommended not having the biopsy. Delicate children are some of the most at risk from surgical side effects and anesthesia. I'm pretty sure the point of this post was not to argue the gold standard diagnosis, rather to find out what choices a parent is making for their sick child.
  13. What a great gift! I'm going to have to remember that one!
  14. Tone is hard to interpret on a message board. I learned the hard way that some people come off very harsh but don't mean to sound that way.
  15. I'm not sure who you're asking but with the blood work only, we still have the official diagnosis that works for school and everything else.
  16. I have no idea if there is an official link or not but my dd wet the bed when she was accidentally glutened a few times (and never has accidents otherwise).
  17. We opted not to have the biopsy done for our daughter. She was too sick and had very positive blood work. Her pediatrician suggested forgoing the biopsy unless we really needed additional proof (her instant improvement with the diet was enough convincing for us!). The GI we consulted with was kind of pushy too and a little rude about us deciding not...
  18. I'd have them do the blood test. It wasn't too bad and I just bought the kiddos a nice bribe to get them through it. Oops, I should have read the rest of the responses before replying!
  19. Keep food with you is one of our most important rules. Have a small supply of easy to prepare, shelf stable emergency food just in case of bad weather or other emergencies.
  20. My daughter was just like your son when she was diagnosed. As she started feeling better she got much less picky. She'll try anything now and even likes some of it. Getting the right brand of gluten-free food makes all the difference. I always check here for product recommendations before buying stuff. So far we like the Kinnikinnick breads the...
  21. Frozen gluten-free vegetarian egg rolls
  22. Have you tried giving him a hearty high protein snack just before bed? I would think that would help. My daughter had really rough mornings before diagnosis and we suspected hypoglycemia. All that disappeared shortly after going gluten free though. Is there a chance he needs an earlier bed time?
  23. I would love a tried and true gluten-free dog treat recipe. Especially one without meat, if there is such a thing. I've been googling but I always get better results from this forum! Thanks! I thought homemade treats would be a nice holiday gift for my family's dogs!
  24. DD gets them when she's been glutened. Sometimes I can get her to rinse her mouth with salt water if I promise her a candy afterward and if the sores are really hurting (but she usually won't agree to do it).
  25. I've had the pumpkin spice latte on a couple of occasions this fall and have been fine. I'm worried about the cc issues though and probably won't get them very often.
