  1. I need a grammar consult, from our resident grammar goddess. I always thought in words like "catch up", the up was referred to as a adverbial particle. Have I been taught wrongly? I must know; you never know when this may come up in casual conversation. Good news to report. Colin's wonder woman social worker worked her magic and the VON will be coming...
  2. Arg!!! Totally frustrating day! My brother called me this morning and he sounded really sick -- said he had a cough and chest pain and said felt like he had a fever. I just saw him a couple days prior and he was healthy, although he did seem a bit tired. I went to his place to see him and his breathing was pretty laboured so I decided to take him to the ER...
  3. I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. Mashed potatoes are so nice when you're not feeling well. We used to have a constant supply of mashed potatoes in our fridge to reheat that made up the bulk of most my meals. Not so much any more! Must stop myself from professing how good I'm feeling for health and safety purposes. Yesterday my brother reminded...
  4. We have Wii Sport which has baseball, bowling, tennis, golf, and boxing, and Wii Play which has ping-pong, target shooting, fishing and a few other weird but fun games. My dad got us Big Brain Academy for Christmas but we haven't got around to playing that much. We mostly did bowling and baseball (home run derby style!) last night and my arm is sore this...
  5. OMG - that sounds beautiful. Wainscotting is so classy yet inviting. I remember overhearing some classmates in first year university and they were talking about how they would really feel grown up and that they'd "made it" when they had a job and could buy a BMW and go on trips to Hawaii and those types of things and all I could think was that I would know...
  6. Thanks!!! Check out this Open Original Shared Link (click on snoopy for my favoUrites) I used to try and do stuff like that but I think I reached my limit at confetti and marshmallows!
  7. Sorry that I am late with the confetti!!! \\\\ Congratulations on 2000 posts//// ` 0 O o . 0` .0 o 0` o` o . 0 o. o O . `o o` 0. ` o .o`0 O . o ` 0 ` o . 0 . `0 O . o And some marshmallows for good measure . . . (_() (_() (_()
  8. Definitely never too old for that! I threw a bit of a tantrum and pity party last month on what would have been my mom's 55th birthday. Life sucks sometimes and I think you need to stomp your feet and get mad at the world in order to back into-sorts. And at the very least you can have a bit of fun stomping your feet and making spectacle of yourself.
  9. Imodium can help and I think it would be called for if you're losing lots of fluids. If you have celiac disease you will likely still have diarrhea for awhile even after cutting out gluten because your villi need time to grow back and be able to absorb what you are eating. Definitely look into things and see that gastro doc. It could be celiac but many...
  10. Good luck with that! All I know is that multivariate analysis of variance is used when you have several dependent variables. Wilks' lambda rings a bell for MANOVA with me. But really I have no idea. Maybe look for Wilks' in your stats package. Good luck. It all sounds very painful.
  11. Carla, do your teeth feel really slimy? I had braces in grades 7/8 and when I got them off I couldn't believe how slick and slimy my teeth felt. It was like I had forgotten how it felt to feel the surface of my teeth with my tongue and against my cheeks. Your teeth look great. Make sure you wear your retainer religiously so your teeth don't move back! ...
  12. Sillies -- I'm SO glad I have a funny place to come when the real world is not being very funny at all. Emily, MJ on your but has given me my first much needed laugh of th evening. My dad got in a VERY MINOR car accident. Pretty much a fender bender but he fractured his wrist and needed me to pick him up at the hospital. He told me he was totally fine...
  13. I'm not sure how my mom did it -- never asked. I guess I'll have to figure that out before next year. I'm thinking maybe it was stuck in the cake after baking and before icing. Actually, I think I remember her putting the baby in the cake before cooking and it never melted. I'm not sure how . . . the magic of mardi gras I guess. Nikki: mardi gras...
  14. Yeah that is what I was thinking too. The lack of enzyme causes the lactose to not be broken down and its presence causes water to be drawn into the intestine and the oh so fun consequences of that. But really all I know is that I can have small amounts of dairy now and that makes me VERY happy!!! Anyone having pancakes today? On fat Tuesday my mom used...
  15. That's pretty much what I was thinking too. I've heard the quote "Good is the enemy of best, and the best is the enemy of better". Not sure I really get it but it kind of sounds like what your quote might be getting at.
  16. I'm guessing some very high proof alcohol would be needed to extract the active chemical. Ummm . . . I think I need to need to leave it at that. I'm afraid this could all be misconstrued by someone who happens upon it . I'm not sure that every one on the outside understands that what happens in Sillyville is pretty much confined to our very active imaginations...
  17. I developed Type I about 3 months after being diagnosed with celiac disease. Looking back, my symptoms were obvious and classic but I didn't really notice them until I developed ketoacidosis and ended up in the hospital. I just figured the fatigue and sick feeling were from celiac disease and didn't realize I was peeing so much because I was in the bathroom...
  18. If you're looking for a new and strange experience, I suggest adding some antinauseants to the mix. Last time I was in the hospital with a fever and on anti-nausea meds I became quite delirious and had to be put in wrist restraints. This reminds me of something strange I learned a few months ago that I have been meaning to pass on. Did you know Morning...
  19. Ooooh, can he wear his batman costume? Ryan has a somewhat secret Batman obsession and I think Batman in the wedding parade would make his day. The first time I met Ryan's family they regaled me with tales of how he dressed up as batman EVERY single year for Halloween.
  20. Thanks so much, I'm sure I will have some questions in the coming months! I think of something new to think/worry about almost every hour. Ryan and I were having fun brainstorming wedding song ideas last night. For some reason we both thought of Into the Mystic by Van Morrison. We might change our minds but I'm happy we were able to have a least one...
  21. Does your mom have the authority to kick your roommate out? Is your name the only name on the rental agreement? If that is the case and your roommate is not named on the lease, do you have a written agreement with her? If you do have a contract with her, you would probably have to give her a certain amount of notice before kicking her out (2 months). I'm...
  22. This sounds like such a frustrating and upsetting experience. You shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable and threatened in your own home and neighbourhood. I would say call your MPP but I don't know what the equivalent of this would be in The States. I hope the situation improves quickly. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.
  23. Now there's an idea!!! If not, I'm sure he could manage being the DJ. I'm sure he's got good taste in music!!! Ahhhhh . . . music makes me remember that we need to pick a wedding song! I was always the one at weddings secretly making fun of people's lame, corny wedding song choices. So now I CANNOT have a lame song.
  24. Don't worry! You guys won't get cut. The list goes parents, grandparents, siblings and then you guys. Anyone want to volunteer to be the emcee?
  25. Isn't that a prerequisite for being on the silly thread? I don't know, it's just all of my friends' weddings that I've been to have been on the larger side and had 4-5 bridesmaids/groomsmen. I'm afraid that my vision of a small, intimate wedding is going to end up looking like a country bumpkin kinda thing. I don't want it to look like we're doing things...
