  1. Was it homemade wine by any chance? I only ask because one time (before I had Celiac) I had a very bad experience with homemade wine. I only had two glasses at a wedding and I threw up all night. I'm generally not a big drinker but I'm not that much of a lightweight. Never been so sick in my life, until Celiac that is. I know a few other people got ill from...
  2. I believe it was an analogy and it made perfect sense to me.
  3. Thank you -- I think this needs to be my motto for the whole wedding experience. As long as my fiance and I are happy that should be good enough, right? And I think our immediate family will be okay with it as well. We are lucky to have such supportive families!
  4. I agree that if there is undigested particles then there is an absorption problem. I think even if your intestinal damage has healed or is healing, you can still have absorption problems due to faster than usual transit of food through your GI tract. So if your tummy is upset and you have diarrhea, things might be traveling through your small intestine too...
  5. That's really good to know. I've been there with my parents when I was a little kid and I didn't have Celiac to worry about then. Sounds like a place I might want to go back to! Thanks for reporting this.
  6. Thanks for the input. I really think I do want a small wedding and not just because I want to get it over with and be married finally. I never really thought about what my wedding would be like until recently but when I picture it, it is a peaceful, intimate affair. Not sure what we'll do for a reception but something small and simple with lots of really...
  7. So . . . weird question. Has anyone ever eloped or had a really small wedding? My fiance and I were planning on getting married back in June but it was postponed due to me becoming sick with Celiac. I've been engaged for almost 2 years and I REALLY want to be married. My fiance and I have been contemplating having a really small wedding with just parents...
  8. After the first 24 hours or so I usually take some Imodium so I can have a break and get some uninterrupted sleep. Also, as much as I don't want to eat, I usually feel better if I have something on stomach. Small amounts of rice and applesauce work well for me. Pedialyte is great for staying hydrated. I find making popsicles out of the Pedialyte makes...
  9. Didn't someone have a problem with the yeti weeing inappropriately? Diabetes explains everything. We minght end up with a much more well behaved, agreeable yeti! We'll have to carefully calculate the dose for him -- we certainly don't wanting a belligerent hypoglycemic yeti on our hands. And certainly a Yeti seizure would be dangerous for all involved...
  10. Fellow Canuck, where are your U's????? My favourite is Raspberry but I haven't had one since being diagnosed. Hmmmm, I think I need to search for a gluten-free pie crust to make myself a raspberry pie. I am a bad diabetic !!
  11. It sounds like a good idea. I have kept a food diary for physical symptoms but it probably would have been a good idea if I added mood in there as well. I think a few days is probably too soon to tell anything. Something you've eaten a few days ago might still be affecting you. And if you're new to the gluten free diet, you could still be getting some...
  12. A very nice combination of logic and language!!!!
  13. Yeah, definitely! We had my dad and brother over for a mini Grey Cup party. Although I have to embarrassingly admit that I fell asleep during the middle part. Not bored, just tired. I made Earl Grey tea for the occasion (although I know it is a different Earl Grey). I do prefer the CFL to the NFL, but college beats both for me.
  14. I think you're right about it being past simple passive but I'm definitely not 100% sure. I remember that one of the general purposes of passive voice is that it is the voice of the victim. Although with a ball being hit doesn't really fit the victim paradigm. But for a sentence like: The man hit the woman. OR The woman was hit by the man. The...
  15. Ahhhhh, I certainly don't envy you; painting can be such a big job! I think Patti needs the Yeti next to help her with her home improvements. I have a funny painting story, although it certainly wasn't too funny at the time. When my fiance and I first moved into our house a little less than two years ago we wanted to paint some rooms. One day while painting...
  16. Hi, I had a lot of mouth sores before I was diagnosed and I tried a bunch of different methods to get rid of them or at least make them less painful. I found that rinsing my mouth with Benadryl liquid helped ease the pain. Holding ice chips in my mouth helped a bit to when they were really bothering me. I hope you get some relief soon! Mouth sores are...
  17. Good to know. Are centre, theatre and the like allowable? Having spelled those words the commonwhealth way may entire life I still find them kind of weird.
  18. Here is a Thanksgiving joke in honour (or should I say honor) of the upcoming American Thanksgiving. My grandpa gave me this joke when we had him over for Thanksgiving dinner last month. A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York the day before Thanksgiving and says,"I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing...
  19. Do you take any meds after being glutened that you don't usually take? I only ask because I know anti-nausea meds give me nightmares and restless sleep and even some wakeful delirium. If not, I would certainly blame the nightmares on gluten. I get insomnia despite being exhausted after a gluten incident. And it looks like many others have gluten-induced...
  20. Americans don't have Boxing Day? . . . weird!!!! The land of statutory holidays and sales?!?!? All of those holidays for dead presidents and not one for boxing day?
  21. A few years ago I got California Closets to come do my dad's bedroom closet. I went over to his house the day the consultant was coming and the lady was in there measuring and planning for almost 2 hours! It was supper time and we didn't know what to do about her. So my dad ending up making supper for her and the three of us ate spaghetti (pre-Celiac days...
  22. I really don't want to get into a debate over this since I don't think it has much to do with the original question. As I said, it is a personal decision and I have my reasons for getting it and respect others who choose not to because of their own reasons. I don't really want to get too involved in this but I feel like I would look like I'm just making...
  23. Anything injectable should be gluten-free since the presence of gluten would make the solution too sticky. The topic of vaccines seems to be a rather divisive topic. I personally always get a flu shot and likely always will. Not only am I protecting myself from getting sick, I'm protecting others that I may have contact with. High risk people like my...
  24. Patti, I hope your move went smoothly. Happy Halloween everyone! Top Five Reasons Trick-or-Treating is Better Than Sex. 5. You're guaranteed to get a little something in the sack. 4. If you get tired, you can wait 10 minutes and go again 3. Forty years from now, you'll still enjoy candy. 2. If you don't get what you want, you can always go next...
