ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
~alex~ replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I didn't want to be the first on the 200th page since I'm a newbie here but now that it's safe to post here is something funny that my brother sent me in honour of (Canadian) Thanksgiving. THANKSGIVING CONVERSATION THAT SOUNDS DIRTY BUT ISN'T 1. Talk about a huge breast! 2. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist. 3. It's Cool... -
ARCHIVED Nausea After A Massage
~alex~ replied to ~alex~'s topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ack, toxins -- that sounds scary. Sometimes it's hard to tell if something is making me sick, or if it's a blood sugar issue or just my stomach being sensitive. But from all of your responses, it sounds like it was a toxin issue. I will definitely have to hyper-hydrate if/when I have another massage. I wonder why my soon-to-be sister in law didn't feel... -
I don't think this is Celiac related but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it or knows what might be going on. My fiance's sister took me with her to get a massage yesterday and I felt quite unwell afterwards. I told the Massage Therapist about the gluten issue and brought my own lotion so I don't think it was Celiac related. I started...

My brother has a black Labradoodle and it is an amazing dog. It was quite expensive I believe but totally worth it. The dog is just a joy to be around and its fur is so soft. They also tend to be hypoallengeric so they're good if anyone in your family has a problem with asthma or allergies. I grew up with a border collie so I am quite partial to them too...

ARCHIVED Lost A Good Friend Today
~alex~ replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm very sorry. I can tell from your post that you both must have made a mark on each others life. It will be a huge comfort to the family to know that he had a positive effect on the lives of people like you. He will live on in every way he touched you and everyone else in his life. Good people like this man teach people things about life and those lessons... -

Unfortunately I'm not from Moosejaw or Moose Factory or Moosonee but I have visited Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump on a family trip! I'm an Ontarian of the non-GTA variety. -

Why does everything good in life require a valid US zip code! No wonder we Canucks have an inferiority complex. We do however have an virtual Tampax university campus. Hours of fun! Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Had A Gluten Free Wedding?
~alex~ replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been wondering about the feasibility of this too. The more I think about it, the more I just want to elope. I realize that doesn't really help you! I've never had my heart set on the whole big wedding thing so it will probably be a small intimate affair which will probably make things easier. I wish I could just wake up one day and be married and... -
I had a second endoscopy about three months after I was diagnosed with an endoscopy/biopsy. Everything went fine and it probably went smoother than the first endoscopy. It is probably wise to limit the endoscopies since there are some risks to them but if you doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks, than it is probably okay to go ahead with it. I...

Thanks for all of the warm welcomes. I guess my spelling outed me as a subject of the Queen! I am a proud Canadian. I'm sure many of you have seen these before and I apologize if they have been posted here before but they just make me laugh every time I read them. Mistakes in church bulletins: 1. This being Easter Sunday, we will ask... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Controlling?
~alex~ replied to megsbaby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You definitely weren't being too controlling. Your support is huge for your husband. It sucks when family doesn't get it but you're the most important person in his life and the fact that you are so involved in helping him stay healthy is great. I'm not sure why his parents would act in such a way. Maybe they are in denial that their lack of action when... -

Sorry to interrupt, I just accidentally clicked on this thread and saw this website. It made my day. I think I have a new favourite website! Just wanted to say thanks for posting that. I'm glad my errant fingers clicked on this thread. -
I was given (non gluten free) toast for breakfast on the first morning when I was hospitalized . I was admitted in the middle of the night with pneumonia and I think the nighttime staff forgot to write down or tell the daytime staff that I had Celiac disease. So if you are admitted in the middle of the night, be wary of your breakfast the next morning because...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get The Night Sweats?
~alex~ replied to Janeti's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Low blood sugar can cause night sweats. If you're sick with vomiting and/or diarrhea from a glutening or not eating much because you don't feel well, that could lower your blood sugar and cause the night sweats. -
ARCHIVED Follow Up Testing And Doctors Visits
~alex~ replied to jackie4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If she is feeling better and her antibody levels have gone down then she probably doesn't need a follow-up endoscopy. Seeing her GI every year for a Celiac panel is probably a good idea. If she still wasn't feeling well or her antibody levels hadn't gone down, they might want to do a follow up endoscopy. -
ARCHIVED Breakfast Ideas
~alex~ replied to carriecraig's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like warm rice with syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and almond slivers on it. Also, smoothies (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, OJ, yogurt, ice or water) -
Frying up minced garlic in oil and then putting that in the pizza sauce is really yummy! I've made pizza with Artichokes on it before and it was actually pretty good. I think the artichokes basically pick up the flavours of what they are cooked in. It's good if you're feeling like something different. Enjoy your pizza!

Thanks so much for all of the ideas! I think I'm going to give them all a try. I've really liked many foods that I never would have tried before I was diagnosed so I hope the same goes for these new foods. I'm incredibly embarrassed to say that I never really new what grits were . I always thought they were some kind of hashbrown. But now that...

I know this sounds like a really boring thing to miss but after about 8 months gluten-free, one of the only things I really miss is couscous. I love the smallness of it and the way it absorbs any sauce you put on. I've tried quinoa and it's okay but it just doesn't do it for me. Is there any good replacement for couscous? I've looked around a bit but...

ARCHIVED My 5yr Old Son's Diagnosis
~alex~ replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Maybe you could try him on the gluten free diet and then after a while retest to see if his TTG has gone down. Considering that you have Celiac and he has one of the genes and possibly positive bloodwork, I would think there is a fairly good chance that he has Celiac. And if he does have Celiac, the sooner his starts the diet the better. When he is older... -
Our trip went really well. The kitchen in our hotel was great and we were able to make gluten free meals just like at home. My blood sugar was a little erratic due to my schedule being off but nothing serious. The prospect of going on a honeymoon doesn

Thanks for those websites guys. We're leaving tomorrow so it's good to do some last minute reading to assure myself that we're prepared. I've tried to think of everything so I'm feeling pretty confident that things will go smoothly. We're only going for a weekend and I think I've packed more stuff than when we went to live in a different city for 6 weeks...

I wouldn't try the drug again until you are evaluated by your doctor. My experience with sensitivities to painkillers is mostly breathing trouble but I'm sure it causes different symptoms in different people. My brother is sensitive to aspirin and some other NSAIDs -- he has something called "aspirin triad" which consists of the NSAID sensitivity, asthma...

ARCHIVED Scared - Biopsy Next Week
~alex~ replied to jenngolightly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When my mouth was really dry before my scopes I swished ice cold water in my mouth a bunch of times and then spit it out. It takes a lot of will power to not swallow the water but it's a lifesaver when your mouth is so dry. Watching a bunch of your favourite movies tonight and tomorrow morning before the scope might help distract you from how hungry/thirsty... -
ARCHIVED Gene Questions?
~alex~ replied to momof2sn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's probably a good idea for both your husband and yourself to get a celiac panel since you have a diagnosed first degree relative. I think celiac genes are quite common and having one doesn't assure having celiac but makes it a possibility. If your husband tests negative he can always keep in mind that celiac is a possibility and if he ever becomes ill...
