My husband just told me how much these things cost. All of a sudden I was excited about staying in my kitchen cooking my own. We also have a little family run business by the church that doesn't require a second mortgage to eat there.

Between a variety of tests, all 5 of us show some wheat/gluten allergy/sensitivity/intolerance (among other things). So we all are now wheat/gluten free. It's a little strange but at least it is easy.

ARCHIVED Tips On Eating Gluten Free On A Low Budgetand Somewhat Low Preperation Time?
Mom23boys replied to MikeOhio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Like the others have said, "keep it simple". You don't have to eat breaded items (I'm assuming frozen?). Buy the plain. A plain frozen fish or chicken strip cooks just as fast as a breaded one. I keep my double steamer on the counter with my rice cooker. Pop a couple veggies in and some rice. Do a load of laundry or something and come in and... -
We stay at the Hampton Inn when we travel. They have a fridge and microwave in the room. I don't know if we are lucky or if they set up by a 24 hour grocery on purpose. They have made traveling easy.

ARCHIVED Is Mexican Food Safe? With Modifications?
Mom23boys replied to JCAK's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Mexican places seem to be the easiest for my family. You may want to check any seasonings that they add on to the steak strips. -
ARCHIVED New To gluten-free And Confused (In Uk)
Mom23boys replied to MKOT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was told that it takes 6 MONTHS to a year to get the gluten out of ones system so I'm pretty sure 6 weeks will not cut it. While your conscience mind may have not felt improvement, it seems your body did and rebelled once things started building up a bit. -
ARCHIVED Dining Out W/ Multiple Allergies
Mom23boys replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, for starters, we avoid rush times. If we are going to celebrate Mother's Day by eating out, we will celebrate on a different day - a quiet day. We don't make things harder than it should be by playing with fate. We have an off-the-chart anaphylactic shellfish allergy. We do NOT go to seafood places and expect them to accommodate us. It doesn... -
ARCHIVED Can You Explain This One?
Mom23boys replied to Pisqualie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
HHmmmm -- it is probably a build up reaction but I would also consider some of the additives we have here How does a fresh, homemade bread work? -
ARCHIVED Food Allergy Vs Celiac
Mom23boys replied to MichelleD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
(1) Don't forget about cross reactions. Some people have cross reactive allergies where you get an oral allergy-like symptoms from something that is similar to the primary allergy. Soy WILL trigger symptoms in those with wheat issues as will several other items. There is a list you can find from an internet search. Cross reactions don't happen... -
ARCHIVED Angry At Everything All The Time
Mom23boys replied to Greyhound's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The first time we went gluten free, it took about 2 months to "settle in". Some other mood triggers the household had were casein (milk) and artificial colors (especially red) and artificial vanilla (vanillin). If it doesn't settle in, you may want to look into these. -
ARCHIVED Is It Normal To Lose Weight When You First Go Gluten Free?

ARCHIVED Can I Touch Hay ?
Mom23boys replied to georgie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I'm glad you bumped this old thread. I always had a difficult time on hayrides, with fall decorations, even the little bit of hay in a Christmas scene. I'm not seeing a connection. -
ARCHIVED Substitutes For Margarine And Butter
Mom23boys replied to Mateto's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just like with gluten subs, you will not find one that tastes exactly the same. We like olive oil and the kids LOVE baked garlic as a spread on things. For baking I will use canned pumpkin or applesauce in place of butter. (prefer the first) -
ARCHIVED Type Of Doctor To Treat Nutritional Deficiencies?
Mom23boys replied to rrr22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I go to an applied kinesiologist that I found through a health food store. She knows more than any dr I have been to. She figured out I had a thyroid disorder, leaky gut and hypoglycemia. She is the one who urged me to get further testing because wheat/gluten is usually driving it with my list (longer than what I mentioned). Well, guess what showed up... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Make Your Own "flour"
Mom23boys posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm shocked at the prices of substitute flours. Has anyone ground your own rice to make your flour? I'm planning on experimenting since soy and most nut flours are out for us and I hate the taste of many on the rice subs. I want to try a mix of rice, coconut (for fiber and body) and maybe flax seed (for some binding/lift since we don't do eggs either)... -
ARCHIVED How Would You Handle This Situation?
Mom23boys replied to Calmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been milk free much longer than wheat free. I cannot tell you how many people do not make the connection that cheese and butter are a milk product. I just have to go on about how appreciative I am, thank them but let them know that cheese and butter are milk products. I have also changed my language to "all milk products" instead of "milk". That... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Possibility For 3 In Family
Mom23boys replied to 7blessings001's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is quite possible there are several in the family. We have 1 wheat allergic and 4 wheat sensitive (slow response "allergy") with possible celiac in the family history. The person reading our panel said since our patterns were similar there is a definite DNA link. One of the kids has to go in for blood testing so we are having them draw for a couple... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Trouble With Probiotics?
Mom23boys replied to nursenation2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is your diet high in sugars or the processed gluten-free subs? This will "feed" the bad bacteria that the probiotics are trying to get rid of which will make a little "war" in your digestive system. -
Wow! She wasn't kidding when she said I had triplets. All 3 came back allergic/sensitive to milk, eggs, wheat/gluten, soy then some misc items.

ARCHIVED High Positive On Igg Elisa Test For Foods I Don't Eat?!
Mom23boys replied to Carebear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
When I read that and the other articles against IgG testing, I got a very strong feel that they were trying to push (scare) people into traditional allergy ( IgE) testing. I have had both IgE, IgG and I believe it was an IgA testing. The traditional allergy test was the least accurate. -
ARCHIVED High Positive On Igg Elisa Test For Foods I Don't Eat?!
Mom23boys replied to Carebear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have a very high positive for a food I have not eaten in over 30 years. The person reading my test said this could show a genetic issue with that food (which I knew for a fact that it was and we had not discussed that yet). Can't speak for everyone but I know my test was right on. -
They are 12, 10 and 8. Our specialist is calling them triplets because their list of sensitivity is nearly the same (thank goodness! -- now, hopefully, that is like mine). People have always joked about them looking like the same boys but at different ages -- maybe that is just their inside wiring? I'm thankful that their list is similar. I would lose...

Can I come and pace the floor over here? I got the call that all the kids results are in. The good news is that they are "triplets" (their sensitivity list is similar) but "they aren't going to be happy". For kids "not to be happy" as she said, I'm guessing milk and wheat (surely not veggies and fruit). As long as we do not add corn to our list, I will...

ARCHIVED Salicylate Intolerant - Need A Helper Who Has Some Experience
Mom23boys replied to Di2011's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
If you are in the states, I would suggest contacting the Feingold program. Their stage 1 eliminates sals and they have many members who are stage 1 with additional eliminations like gluten, casein... If I had to eliminate those additional items, their food guide would be priceless to me.
