  1. If you make your gumbo spicy, a basic all-purpose mix would be fine If you keep your gumbo mild, try a rice flour
  2. That is my #1 concern. The floor MUST be clean every night before bed in the event that there is an emergency where we have to come and get them. Clothes go into a hamper in my bath at each change. They are awarded points each day -- clean by 9:00 = 3 points, by 11:00 = 2 points, by 1:00 = 1 point anything after = 0. At the end of the week points...
  3. According the the Kraft website, these are the ingredients (bold is mine)... Ingredients: WHOLE GRAIN CORN FLOUR, SUGAR, CORN FLOUR, WHOLE GRAIN OAT FLOUR, HONEY, SALT, YELLOW 5. BHT ADDED TO PACKAGING MATERIAL TO PRESERVE PRODUCT FRESHNESS. VITAMINS AND MINERALS: NIACINAMIDE, REDUCED IRON, ZINC OXIDE (SOURCE OF ZINC), VITAMIN B6, VITAMIN A PALMITATE...

    ARCHIVED Vinegar

Have you looked into candida?? It is my understanding that there are vinegar issues with that.
  5. another vote for coconut oil
  6. 16 here too
  7. There is a new one out made with Stevia if you are into that. It's called "Zevia".
  8. I was about to ask about the same thing. I don't see your "warn box" but I do see mine. I'm thinking that we can only see our own?? I would guess that if we got a warning only we would see it?? It kind of alarmed me at first but the 0% was reassuring.
  9. I think you are on to something. If my oldest goes "off diet" (gluten-free - cf - artificial flavor/color f), he turns into a monster. You wouldn't believe he is the same sweet kid that he is on diet. It has NOTHING to do with parenting style or lack of. Instead of having "traditional" symptoms the brain swells and puts pressure on mood centers of the...
  10. Look on the nutrition panel of the package. Mine will say something in line with "serving size - 1/4 cup" and then "about 6 servings per package". That lets me know there is about 1.5 cups in a package - give or take a little.
  11. I have always heard that the yellow is the "allergenic" part of the egg and many tollerate the white and not the yellow. I have no personal experience myself just the testimonies on allergy type boards.
  12. Hi, I have 2 on the autism spectrum. Right now since you are new to the diet, take it easy on the subs. Some of these kids and still have issues with subs. Try using naturally gluten-free (cf ef..) foods at first. We use this basic meal plan - meat, carb (potato, rice...) green veggie, colorful veggie/fruit. To me it makes things easier. Once...
  13. Can you order some stuff you like off of Amazon and save the trip? We have stores all around but by the time I load up the kids, travel there, try to find what I want and all that stuff; it is easier and cheaper to order.
  14. Jumping in here... I am anaphylactic to shellfish -- to the point where my allergist told me not to even look at a picture of them (half joking half punctuating the seriousness). When dating hubby I told him straight up about the seriousness and had to lay out some "rules". Even now that we are married he knows to call me for a bathrobe, he comes in...
  15. I cannot speak specifically to gluten but...My husband cannot tolerate the artificial vanillin in many products. He works down wind of a General Mills plant. Most of the time he has no problems but there was one day when the air filtration system at his company went down. All the employees were enjoying the fresh baked smell of their chocolate cereal...
  16. I thought of this thread tonight while we were out to dinner. My husband wanted the sweet tea but first he asked if it had caffeine in it. The woman replied "No, we only add sugar to regular tea".
  17. I've used homeopathy for other things. I don't see how it would work for multiple allergens. Looking into leaky gut has been the best info we have received.
  18. All foods can be just as life threatening as nuts. You just hear about the nuts more. For these people you have to be just as dedicated with separate utensils as celiacs have to be. Their allergens stay in the cracks like gluten. My suggestion would be is to be very open about your kitchen procedures. Maybe dedicate a day for say egg free baking, explain...
  19. Our household loves chicken for b'fast. I will get the presliced chicken tenders (just plain chicken, no breading or anything) and grill those on a George Foreman grill. I will vary the seasoning - lemon juice one day - salt and pepper - Italian spices - Mexican spices - whatever. Have those with just about anything else you want.
  20. I don't know where your sister works but that is not how it works in the hospitals I/the kids have been in. I never saw anyone that resembled a dietitian - even upon request. Everything went through the nurse. The only input the dr had was related to the reasons for being there. Even the dr directed me to the nurse when I brought up my allergy needs...
  21. I do blame the nurses!! Every time I have been in the hospital and told them that I am milk ALLERGIC (and I go into a long speech about it, not just a passing statement) they write on the chart lactose INTOLERANT. Then the kitchen staff brings all these modified milk products. Products with modified sugars will not help me when I have an issue with...
  22. I think reading labels is a big thing. I think too many people just "assume". We were at the store one day and one of my kids saw a woman looking at something and he wanted some. He went over and read the label out loud. (because of allergies, labels are one of the first things I teach them to read) This package had all kinds of stuff you would not...
  23. 1) Forget the substitutes for now. They will not fill that "memory" spot. They will run up your grocery bill too. 2) Go simple. I try to follow this formula (give or take) for a meal...meat, carb, green veggie, colored veggie (and/or fruit). That could be roast, potatoes, brussel sprouts and carrots or it could be Baked chicken, rice, green...
  24. I didn't put any milk in this casserole, I just doubled the cheese instead. Here is some peanut butter since he cannot have peanuts. What?!? Peanut butter is made from peanuts? I thought it was made from butter.
  25. I finally found it this week at our Walmart. They were slow getting it in! I think my reaction embarrassed the kids though!
