  1. NEVER taste the gluten-free flour or batter!!!!!
  2. Owie!! I HAVE to take it with food!
  3. From what I understand, 5 htp can give some the big "d". You don't want to have celiac "d" and complicate it with 5 htp "d". If you are not experiencing "d" from 5 htp, you should be OK. I was told when we started it to reduce the dose if the "d" hit.
  4. Double agree!!
  5. I am assuming you are asking because your daughter has come to you. What does soon-to-be hubby say about this?? The hubby 2b needs to get a grip on his Mom or life is going to be a nightmare for your daughter. This should be about the BRIDE and GROOM not the MIL. If the hubby 2b is not willing to back his wife 2b 100% this wedding needs to be put on...
  6. You will find a number here who have used Enterolab testing.
  7. Be very clear if you use "look alikes" too. I've had people assume that since my kid was eating a pretzel (for example) that all pretzels were ok. I have to make it very clear that we have look alikes and I will even call them by different names or qualify them by saying "gluten free" before or whatever it takes so people know they are not eating the ...
  8. Our nutritionist places ADD, ADHD and a few other issues on the autism spectrum. While they are not full autism, they have many similar beginnings and issues. So I would say that YES a gluten-free/G lite diet would help. Our nutritionist suggested this book to us -- Gut and Psychology Syndrome by Dr Campbell-McBride. It explains the inclusion of these...
  9. I don't know if it is our altitude, our (lack of) humidity or something else but I have found my breads come out better if I preheat my oven to a higher temp then suggested then drop it down after I put the bread in.
  10. I have been working with casein free for some time and have not found an agreeable sub. My kids will not eat any of the Gluten-free Casein-free packaged items. The closest we get is to start like you are making "real" mac and cheese. Melt about a T of CF "butter" then put in about a T of gluten-free flour/flour mix then add a little (about a cup) CF...
  11. It takes a couple months (more or less) to get most of it out of your system. Symptoms will vary...it can be tummy trouble, mood swings, skin problems, brain fog...
  12. If you know you had a gluten-free brand, this could mean it is doing what it is supposed to do -- killing off the bad bacteria only while doing it it is making a toxic overload on your system. Can you reduce the dosage down greatly then gradually increase?
  13. Owie, owie! Give that baby an extra kiss and well wishes from us. That hurts just looking at it!
  14. I think the 2 is an OOPS. Every time I have purchased the product there has only been 1 packet.
  15. I started casein free before I got internet. It was HARD! Plus, they didn't have all the good stuff they do now.
  16. How wonderful!
  17. Thanks for the notice. A coconut crust sounds yummy.
  18. So true. I have spoiled many a "secret ingredient" with my taster.
  19. It has taken us nearly 5 years to get used to the bean flour taste.
  20. I reorganized my kitchen so my most used items are within easy reach. We are getting ready to do the same to the pantry. I have 2 microwaves down low so the kids can help with easy things. Instead of a crockpot, I use a turkey roaster and freeze the rest. The kids must help. The 8 y/o can prepare a gluten-free mix with minimal supervision. He is a master...
  21. 1) Treat a casein intolerance like a gluten intolerance. These are the two you don't mess with. 2) No cheese. No yogurt. Not all chocolate has casein. Look for dark chocolates. 3) No cheating. Treat it with the same respect you treat celiac. You may not see symptoms within 2 minutes of ingesting something but it is still doing damage to your...
  22. My thoughts too. You sound like a way better match for the baby then the current sitter. It will give her peace of mind with him being with you. It is so stressful when the kids don't want to be with someone. You are in a dream location too!
