ARCHIVED If You've Had Enterolab Gene Testing.....
Mom23boys replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine was 1 day shy of the 3 week mark. When they say 3 weeks, I think they mean it! -
ARCHIVED Just Had The Stuffing Scared Out Of Me
Mom23boys posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had pretty much figured out my gluten issues came from my Mom's side of the family. From reading descriptions she sounded like a celiac as did her Mother. Both dead now. My Dad just called and my uncle is in the hospital with of all things...intestinal cancer. Wow! That just gives new motivation to sticking to this!! I need to talk my brother and... -
I have had skin pricks, blood testing and intradermal (little shots under the skin). For me the intradermal was the most accurate.

ARCHIVED What Did I Do Wrong?
Mom23boys replied to Gluten=bad's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It took my tummy a while to get used to the gluten-free subs. Getting used to some is worse than a reaction. Even now I don't dare overdo it. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Allergy And Blood Pressure Spikes
Mom23boys replied to greendog's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
With a "traditional" allergy the blood pressure can spike. I know mine does if I get milk. I'm not sure about other forms of sensitivities. -
Well, I know you can have a nut case on any message board but the way this is set up in the recipe area doesn't really encourage it. I am focusing my efforts in the area where it asks for comments from people who have tried the recipe and give their reviews. If people can say needs more salt or needs less pepper, I feel I can say works well with soy as...

ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I'm Making Mistakes?
Mom23boys replied to Puddy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
We were not aware of any symptoms before we went gluten free. We did it for our 8 y/o Aspie and when we tested putting it back in both DH and I reacted. That was a shock to us. After being strict for a while even if not perfect, I suspect your body may let you know. It may not be an obvious intestinal warning but maybe headache, brain fog, join pain,... -
ARCHIVED Hey What Do You Do To De-stress ?
Mom23boys replied to thumper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I scrapbook. -
LOL! We always get the "you eat normal food". I guess they expect a situation like the Everybody Loves Raymond show where there was a rubbery tofu turkey. We have started having people over more not only to socialize but to let them know we don't eat weird stuff.

It looks like I'm on her list now. Anyway, I decided to sign up for some of the community sharing projects and recipe things they do (sorry, I don't have all the lingo down) . I'm going to give it my all to make any of those projects fit our Gluten-free Casein-free (and the rest of our evils free) to promote allergy/intolerance/sensitivity awareness....

I think babysitting would be difficult unless it was for a child who doesn't eat gluten. If you can deal with the challenges of some special kids, you may want to check into some of your local autism/aspergers groups and look for kiddos who are Gluten-free Casein-free. I am sure it would be a relief to some of those parents just to not to have to answer...

We have started entertaining more at home and are actually MORE social now (I guess it helps when you are not doubled over or worse after a meal).

I would go completely milk free rather than just lactose free. While digesting the sugar is a problem for many, it basically sticks to the tummy area. The casein is the protein that is associated with behavioral issues and can have a variety of issues like gluten.

ARCHIVED Can Shingles And Celiac Be Related
Mom23boys replied to confused's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From what I understand dermatitis herpetiformus and shingles look alike so my question would be "is it REALLY shingles and not DH????" -
Personally I prefer going "cold turkey" and not trying to do any kind of sub for a while. No matter how good the sub is it is not going to be exactly like the brand you "crave" when you think of x product. For the kids I will even make up a new name when I eventually try a sub (instead of mac and cheese we have rice noodles and sauce) just so I don't bring...

ARCHIVED Friends/family Who Just Don't Care
Mom23boys replied to mrsry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I finally got to the point where I spoke with a professional counselor about this issue. This was before we added gluten to the family list but we still had severe shellfish, milk and some lesser issues. Family members would cook something and add our allergens into something that usually wouldn't contain that allergen. I got accused of over reacting UNTIL... -
ARCHIVED What Is Enterolab Testing?
Mom23boys replied to stolly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is a test where you send in a stool sample in the materials they send you. What they test depends upon what you order. You can find out if you are sensitive, if you carry the gene and so on. You can check out all their info at their website by the same name. -
ARCHIVED New Here, My Baby Might Be Allergic To Gluten? Will She Outgrow It?
Mom23boys replied to 3groovygirls's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That is exactly what we were told by our alternative specialist. She said to NEVER mess with gluten or casein -- if you have ever had any kind of a positive test or diet reaction, consider yourself "allergic"/sensitive/intolerant for LIFE even if you no longer get anaphylaxis, the "d", rashes or whatever your reaction was. -
ARCHIVED ? About Dairy Reactions
Mom23boys replied to buffettbride's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think we cover it all here. Out of 5 in the house 4 have positive tests for some level of casein issue. It can be as mild as just a little indigestion and light brain fog, to the "d", to a full blown meltdown depending upon which on of us gets us and how much we get. -
Maybe I'm the odd one out here but I really didn't care for it. To me it was rather dry. I also want more standard recipes where I don't have to drive all over town or mail order X ingredient. I want recipes I can serve to anyone and not have to say "I'm sorry but we are gluten free". It would be really cool if there were pick and choose recipes...

ARCHIVED Food Allergy Testing
Mom23boys replied to kathy1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just a thought -- one of my allergists didn't believe in food allergy testing either. He ended up being one of my best allergists for dealing with my "food" allergies. Many food "allergies" are actually cross reactions to tree/grass/shrub/...pollens. That means the true issue is a pollen but you react when you eat a food. Ragweed tends to go with... -
ARCHIVED Confused Mom
Mom23boys replied to cdmom95's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am in NO way an expert but I just don't see how the allergy shots would skew his blood tests. However I might question any allergy meds he may have been on. Allergy meds may alter some tests. With some of my tests I was told to tough it out for about a week. You might want to call your dr, allergist and lab back to see what they say (Yes, I would... -
