ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Namaste Pasta Meals?
Mom23boys replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've got some on the ups truck headed this way. I'll give our opinion when we try it. If its the brewers yeast I should be able to spot it - it gives me the shimmies but the boys love it. We cannot have real cheese and are hoping we can have this. -
ARCHIVED How To Make Liver
Mom23boys replied to confusedks's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My Mom always used salt water for this step. The salt seems to draw out whatever makes it bitter. Then just pour off the water. -
I am 42 and have been dealing with food issues since I was 14. After trying just about every way of dealing with it, I do the cooking now. I'm tired of being stuck on the toilet or sofa - I've even spent Christmas in the ER. Our family and friends are welcome but don't bring anything or come into my kitchen. We will have a fairly "normal" Thanksgiving...

ARCHIVED Annalise Roberts' Chocolate Fudge Cake
Mom23boys replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Have you checked the temp in your oven?? Minor fluctuations don't bother my regular cooking but it sure does my gluten-free cooking. I need to preheat at a higher temp and drop it down to cooking temp after I put my item in. -
ARCHIVED Making The Whole Family gluten-free?
Mom23boys replied to moonlitemama's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have young kids and it is just so much easier having the things in the house a meet with the diets. At one time we used the fridge in the garage for "cheaters". We have since found that we all are pretty much sensitive to the same things so the garage fridge is now just for overflow and drinks. -
ARCHIVED Portuguese Wedding Shower
Mom23boys replied to Energy Seeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I so feel for you. My MIL pulled the same stunt at my wedding reception. I had everything planned and set up milk free. She contacted the people behind my back, changed everything and the only thing I could eat at my own wedding was broccoli. Even the blooming cake had milk in it!! It was horrible!! My advice would be is to stand your... -

Mom23boys replied to aeshlea's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

Can you give a link to the new law and/or the problems with it??

Watch out for soy cheeses. All of them that I have seen have casein in them. There is a vegan rice cheese that we have tried. It is OK shredded in chili or a little on a taco. Even then the kids tell me to skip the cheese because they don't miss it enough to eat that yet. If I am making a pizza or something with meat, we prefer cooking a slice...

ARCHIVED Possible To Make Yourself More Intolerant With Elimination Diet?
Mom23boys replied to Greeneyes4950's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't believe the elimination diet makes you more sensitive. I believe because you have had a period of "feeling better" you notice it before. Also you body it not spread itself thin attacking many invaders so all its resources focus on attacking the one making the reaction more. Your reaction does not sound like a sensitivity. I would get to an... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Substitute When A Recipe Calls For Cream Of Mushroom?
Mom23boys replied to Aligray's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I saute some mushrooms(whole, sliced, diced, whatever) in butter (dairy free in our case) then add enough of whatever kind of milk you use to make the full amount for the recipe. Then whatever starch/flour thickener you would use in a gravy. Homemade will have way less salt than the canned version so you may want to add some. -
ARCHIVED Sulphur Smelling Stool
Mom23boys replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am reading the "Gut and Psychology Syndrome" book. Just yesterday I read where it was talking about the sulfur smell coming from an overgrowth of a certain kind of bad bacteria in the gut. Do you take supplements to reintroduce the beneficial bacteria back in?? You may want to look for a brand that meets with your restrictions. -
ARCHIVED Anyone React Less To Cooked Gluten?
Mom23boys replied to rainabear's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is what I was thinking. With the non ana allergies in our household, cooked items do have less of an initial reaction BUT I do believe they still damage the body long term. I think of it this way -- they are more like the sneaky burglar who breaks in when you are sleeping rather than the gun toting bank robber during mid-day. They both steal and do... -
Yes. Your (our) attitude is 95% of it IMO.

ARCHIVED Newbie Here...should I Buy A Bread Machine?
Mom23boys replied to gfmomof3's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have a plain old cheapie bread machine that I have been using. We prefer the home made bread to the store bought. We use a gluten-free mix. -
ARCHIVED When Does It Ever End?
Mom23boys replied to Sarah8793's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is VERY common for people with milk issues to have soy issues also. Somehow milk, wheat and soy have similar problem causing properties. Hopefully this is the end of it now. -
ARCHIVED How To Help A Teen Adjust?
Mom23boys replied to Mickide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would also encourage both parents to get tested. I must assume you all got it from somebody's genes. -
ARCHIVED Baked Goods Drying Out?
Mom23boys replied to musicchick64's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
HHmmmm. A thought just hit me while reading this. I wonder if one of those terra cotta looking disks that you soak and put in with brown sugar would work in the tupperware with the gluten-free baked goods?? -
ARCHIVED I Want To Rip Out My Intestines
Mom23boys replied to melmak5's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you been to an allergist for this one?? Mouth reactions are often a sign of a cross reactive allergy with outdoor plants. Off the top of my head melons reactions come from ragweed allergy. I don't recall the others right off. Getting treated for the outdoor items (allergy shots) would decrease or even eliminate the mouth reaction. It may be worth... -
ARCHIVED Casein Intolerant And I Ate Cottage Cheese
Mom23boys replied to SUZ42's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Casein symptoms can vary. You may think about getting testing done for casein. It sounds like you had a rather intense reaction. -
ARCHIVED Good And Not So Good Relatives
Mom23boys replied to 2kids4me's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Please Help Me Out Here.....
Mom23boys replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is right. The milk from the Mom was made specifically for that baby by the same body that made the baby. My child who was anaphylactic to animal casein tolerated mommy milk just fine as long as I wasn't consuming animal casein which I shouldn't be anyway since I am allergic. -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Out Here.....
Mom23boys replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So true. I get attacked quite often because I choose alternative and what they call "unproven" techniques to help my child/ren. Well, I choose them because they are WORKING! It does take major effort and planning. Of course I assume since this is a celiac forum you know the effort and planning involved in just getting a gluten free child prepared for... -
ARCHIVED Please Help Me Out Here.....
Mom23boys replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They don't know for sure 100% that autism is genetic. Yes you do have your genetic camp but you also have your mercury camp, your antibiotic camp and a few other "lesser" camps. I know you can change my Aspies world by changing his diet. Within 2 weeks of our first diet change I had many people we knew stopping me asking me what medicine we had put...
