  1. I think you have hit on the right points. I have a password and a screen saver, but people still come up and shake the mouse or tap on the keys. I really like the idea of making the space personal. That may work to differentiate my desk from the public ones.
  2. So it's super stormy outside right now and I'm all alone in the house. It's lightening in the neighborhood so I'm too afraid to go to bed. I've unplugged all the electronics and am using my laptop on its battery. Need something to distract me until the lightening hits my house and it goes up in flames. Seriously, I have my shoes on and my bag next to the...
  3. I ditto on the the physical improvements, but I was talking to a person at work today and I realized that since my Celiac diagnosis I have totally re-prioritized my life. I finally get to put "me" first. I know a lot of moms have that problem, and it took me many years to figure out how to do it without feeling guilty or whatever. But now I put my health...
  4. Open Original Shared Link I made this last weekend and it was really crispy! Baked crust first, then added toppings. I was worried because they said to cook on 425 on lowest rack, but it didn't burn at all. They say that olive oil makes it crispy. It was so good! I hope the recipe helps, but mostly you can just read what they say about how to make the...
  5. ...Yet...
  6. You can almost always sub honey for sugar. The taste will be different, but you will get used to it. I prefer the taste now and almost always substitute with honey. There are different kinds of honey. I do not like clover honey.
  7. The first time I made them, they crumbled. I think it was because I melted the butter. Now I add room temperature butter - and maybe a little extra until the batter becomes creamy - like regular cookie batter. If the batter is crumbly, the cookies are crumbly. But don't add too much, because you have to roll them into balls. The balls should stick together...
  8. I never ate healthy either! We ate things out of boxes (hamburger helper), or frozen foods, or take out. I was an extremely picky eater. And I almost never cooked anything from scratch. But you change because you HAVE to change. Now it's been almost 4 years and I have more kitchen appliances and gadgets than anyone else I know. I love my kitchen. I love trying...
  9. Corn starch was one of the ingredients that made me realize that I was corn-intolerant. When I ate something made with it I got really sick - just like you.
  10. I did the SCD diet for a year, that's how I kept from corning myself. Now that I'm eating "real" food again, I'm having a difficult time learning what ingredients mean "corn." I know the keywords for gluten, but corn is another story. I just haven't had the time to learn them yet. I'm sure this won't be the last time I accidentally corn myself, but...
  11. Of course! It's just so easy to get carried away. Plus, I'm usually a good sport. :-)
  12. Endangered Species is very good.
  13. I had this for years and years. It still bothered me even after I went gluten-free. However, it FINALLY cleared up when I went on an elimination diet and found I was allergic to tree-nuts and intolerant to corn. After removing these from my diet, the symptom cleared up. I totally feel for your misery. I hope you feel better soon. Maybe you are...
  14. Psoriasis sucks. Try to get your skin out in the sun if you can. Sunshine helps. I get skin problems when I eat food that I'm allergic to. Namely, nuts. Also, when I am around cleaning supplies because I have super-sensitive skin. This has some benefits. The kids have to do all the cleaning. If you haven't been around an allergen and you really...
  15. My food allergy was missed by my gastro and immunologist. It took my elimination diet (Specific Carb Diet) and a dermatologist to figure out that I was allergic to tree nuts. Originally, I was having problems getting better on a gluten-free diet. My gastro sent me to an immunologist who did allergy testing via prick tests and blood tests, but I had weird...
  16. I don't know the proper way of saying that I accidentally ate corn. Gluten is glutened, so I improvised. I slept 20 hours on Monday because I accidentally ate some chocolate that had corn-something in it. I've had that brand before and didn't check the ingredients until my ds read them to me that night. I passed out at 8:30 pm and only woke for a few...
  17. Sorry I'm late to the conversation... I keep a variety of oils on hand for different cooking purposes because different oils can stand varying amounts of heat. I used to use olive for everything, then I found that it burnt at high temperature. Here's one website that has more info about oils in general (can't find the website that I usually refer to, maybe...
  18. Yes, this is common and a sign of eating too many simple carbs that your stomach easily digests and passes through. Unfortunately, these are the foods most people crave and changing your diet isn't easy. Simple carbs are the kinds of foods that you find in the middle of the grocery store - processed foods that are packaged - do a google search so you can...
  19. I agree with Skylark. I always say "allergy" when I go out to eat. This is taken very seriously because people can up and die on you if they eat something they're allergic to. It's also easier to send it back if it comes back wrong. I also make the server repeat my order to make sure it's right. I hate it when they don't write it down, that always makes me...
  20. You don't actually need to use tooth paste. Your toothbrush is what cleans your teeth. If you want, you can use salt. If that doesn't sound appetizing, then Tom's makes great, natural toothpaste - their kid's is the most gentle: Open Original Shared Link
  21. If there is corn in dish soap, it's probably been synthesized so it's no longer a problem. That's what happened to the corn in my carpet. You'll have to dig up that thread a few pages back. There's chemistry involved that transforms it. So it's my guess that's what they'd do if they put it into a soap product. Maybe not, though. I have severe reactions...
  22. There es a "forbidden list" and a "safe list" on this site's homepage: https://www.celiac.com/ I had to keep that with me for about a year until I memorized the list. In the present time - Are you using your old toaster? Cutting board? Strainer? Wooden spoons? Anything non-slick can harbor gluten. It isn't an organism that will die off, it's a particle...
  23. I started a new job and went to my work's annual benefits fair that was held 2 weeks after I started my job. They had a "heel testing" station where you sit down and put your foot in a machine so they could measure your bone density. The women in my office were doing it, and I was new, so I joined in. The test took a few seconds and everyone was shuffled...
  24. I didn't get a chance to try them on their own because I needed all of them for the treats. However, my dd and I did get to lick the bowl as we were making them and they tasted just like the inside of a burnt toasted marshmallow - the gooey inside when you pull off the black crispy outside. Yummmm!
  25. I wonder if your marshmallow recipe would work with the Open Original Shared Link recipe and substituting arrow-root for the corn starch? You wouldn't need as much arrow-root. It's not a 1-to-1 conversion. That may be worth a try. Edited to add: if you use this corn-free "corn syrup" recipe, don't cook it to as high of temp as she suggests. She wants you...
