  1. I 'struggled with' (felt nauseas and anxious) after eating foods with sugar for years. After I was diagnosed with cane sugar allergy and substitued beet sugar, honey, agave, maple syrup, etc., I realized the 'anxious' feelings were really tachycardia caused by my cane sugar reaction. I still get nausea and tachycardia if I accidentally consume cane sugar...
  2. You could also be reacting to any one of the ingredients in 'sugar goodies'. I only need to eat a chocolate chip cooky to get reactions to all 7 of my diagnosed allergens (gluten, dairy, soy, egg, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg). If yogurt bothers you, at least consider eliminating dairy for awhile to see if your symptoms decrease. A better approach would...
  3. What do you eat? Do you consume fats, dense calorie foods, and desserts with lunch and dinner? Do you snack on nuts? Do you still have reaction symptoms, which could suggest other allergies?
  4. I am super sensitive to dairy and soy (both dx'd by ELISA tests). I've eaten Amande yogurts for the past 2 years. I have NEVER reacted to any flavor of Amande yogurt. I'm just glad they made a yogurt that's free of my 7 dx'd allergies.
  5. I had the ELISA test which correctly diagnosed 4 of my 7 allergens (delayed reaction IgG mediated). However, I was not asked to fast or refrain from meds, makeup, toothbrushing, etc. before the test. My husband also had the ELISA, which correctly diagnosed several of his allergies. I don't know the (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are...
  6. I was dx'd w/ SAD 12 years ago. We got full spectrum lights in our house and 2 'sun-ray' full spectrum lamps. I stood in front of the larger one soon after I got up for 15-20 minutes. Later I sat beside the smaller 'sun-ray junior' while I ate breakfast (and lunch on really dark days). Since we live in Seattle, where dark, dreary days are the norm from late...
  7. The Paleo Diet is a weight loss diet. You don't need a special diet to abstain from gluten, dairy, egg and soy. I also abstain from cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg, as well as gluten, dairy, egg and soy. Just find substitutes for all your former allergen containing 'favorites'. Also consider baking your own goodies from allergy friendly cookbooks, like...
  8. There's a way to determine your delayed reaction allergies (so called 'intolerances') without losing an ounce. Determining allergies with elimination diets is difficult, because most food allergies are delayed reaction allergies. So it's difficult to figure out exactly what caused reaction symptoms. Also people assume certain foods are 'safe' to eat, while...
  9. I've used L-glutamine after accidental allergen consumption. I can't remember if I accidentally ate gluten or one of my other 6 allergies. My doc prescribed L-glutamine to heal my celiac damaged intestines and later to heal my stomach ulcers after having H. Pylori. L-glutamine did relieve the cramping pain somewhat, but not totally after allergy reactions...

    ARCHIVED Aroma!

Which gluten free breads have you tried? Udi's? Rudi's? Kinnickinnik? Which varieties? Most people who dislike gluten free breads have only tried brands (like Ener-G) which have horrible varieties in grocery stories and a few good ones only available at their local bakery (my experience w/ Ener-G). I actually use the Seattle Brown hamburger buns (Ener-g...
  11. Whether you call it gluten intolerance or celiac disease (evidenced by flattened villi), obviously gluten still damages your body. I also was diagnosed only by stool antigliadin and celiac gene test. However I figured out that gluten causes me pain and bloating, I will still avoid it as best I can. Same with my 6 other delayed reaction food allergies. I...
  12. My symptoms (cramping pain, bloating, gas, constipation) didn't disappear until I resolved all the other problems (besides gluten intolerance/celiac disease). Avoiding gluten and dairy helped somewhat (the most extreme cramping pain decreased). Substituting soy products for dairy products exacerbated my symptoms. So I eliminated soy and got more relief....
  13. In answer to your subject title question, read "Why Stomach Acid is Good for You" by Jonathon Wright, MD. He explains the biochemical and physical process of reflux and lists all the common causes, as well as effective treatments for heartburn and GERD.
  14. There are several varieties of Ener-G breads. Unfortunately, most stores carry the worst tasting/smelling varieties (e.g. white rice loaf, tapioca loaf, rice starch lof, brown rice loaf). The BEST tasting Ener-G breads are corn loaf (tasteslike sour dough but gets dry quickly, which makes it good for stuffing) and Seattle Brown loaf (most similar to what...
  15. Do you mean GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)? If so, reflux is often caused by foods and beverages including alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, onions and garlic. Those foods cause the lower esophageal valve to relax at inappropriate times (when you're not swallowing) and allow stomach acid into the esophagus. Tomatoes and citrus fruit can irritate an already...
  16. Have you tried Daiya Cheese? I can't eat dairy or soy. Daiya is gluten, dairy, soy free cheese and as good as any regular dairy cheese I've eaten. BTW, I've been dairy free (after dx of IgA mediated casein allergy) since 2004. I've found good replacements for all my former dairy favorites (yogurt, cheese, milk, ice cream, margarine, etc.) I know I can't ever...
  17. Depends on what your doctor considers 'routine'. Specifically ask your doc for a thyroid panel including free t4, free t3, TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibodies which indicate Hashimoto's which is highly correlated with gluten intolerance) and TSH. Most docs will only test TSH, which is not even a thyroid hormone, but a pituitary hormone which can indirectly...
  18. Nicole: How are you doing now? If your thyroid supplement didn't resolve all your hypo symptoms (including 'cold, tired and low pulse'), you may not have a large enough dose or maybe you need a different brand or even different kind of thyroid supplement (i.e., combination t4/t3 or even t3 only, rather than t4 only). Most docs start with a t4 supplement like...
  19. Morphine, like most narcotic drugs, always cause constipation. Bentyl's side effects include constipation. Both of those drug's suppress the symptoms of pain and cramping, rather than treat the cause of your pain. If you abstain from gluten, perhaps you have a parasitic, bacterial or fungal infection in your intestines. (I had 8 over a 4 year period, while...
  20. I struggled with constipation for years (like maybe 50). During my 20s I took daily laxatives so that I could 'go' each day. Later I discovered magnesium oxide, but that aways caused lots of bloating and gas. During the next 25 years I followed all the 'regularity rules' (fiber, liquids, exercise, etc., etc.), but still struggled with constipation. I...
  21. I had low stomach acid production long before I was diagnosed with celiac disease and continued having symptoms for another 4 years after I abstained from gluten. My low stomach acid symptoms included feeling overly full after small meals containing proteins or fats, bloating, gas, reflux, constipation and susceptibility to frequent small intestinal 'infections...
  22. I agree that once you stop eating gluten and resolve whatever symptoms gluten caused, you may notice other sensitivities. I was diagnosed with cane sugar (delayed reaction) IgG mediated allergy. Eating cane sugar gives me rapid heart beat and nausea. You might react to something in the candy, if not cane sugar.
  23. I do not have CFS, but I have an autoimmune condition, which is often misdiagnosed as CFS. Hashimoto's thyroiditis (hypothyroidism) often manifests in fatigue and depression. Doctors who are not familiar with symptoms of low thyroid function may overlook the possibility of Hashimoto's, which is highly correlated with gluten intolerance. Have you had recent...
  24. Years ago I got annual flu shots. However, I always reacted with nausea and gut pain. People told me I got a mild case of 'flu'. Yet I never got the traditional 'flu' symptoms of muscle aches and respiratory distress. 5 years ago my ELISA test results showed I was allergic (IgG mediated) to egg whites. No wonder I reacted badly to flu shots which are cultured...
  25. Me, too! LOL I had a stool test after my first gut bug (Klebsiella) treatment. That test showed no good gut bacteria, but esp. no bifido and no lactobacillus. Because I had symptoms (later linked to hypothyroidism), my ND gave me an 'all purpose' antibiotic herbal, before we received those test results. That made me very vulnerable to more opportunistic gut...
