  1. Yes, a naturopath can order a thyroid panel. Mine did, but I got the blood tests done at my HMO lab. I don't see my HMO PCP for anything but occasional (every 3 years now) pap and pelvic exams. She doesn't even look at the tests which my ND orders. Also another naturopath, who specializes in finding causes for IBS symptoms (like celiac, delayed reaction food...
  2. I'd say find another doctor or just follow your gut. You know that gluten, soy, lactose (maybe all dairy or casein), egg and nightshade bother you. Just avoid those and you'll still have plenty to eat. I was dx'd by blood tests with IgG or IgA mediated (delayed reaction) allergies to dairy, soy, egg, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg (as well as gluten intolerance...
  3. I'm one of those 'super sensitive' celiacs. One bite will give me severe gut pain and bloating for about 3 weeks. I have eaten Ener-G products since I was first dx'd in 2004. My favorites are the Seattle Brown bread, hamburger buns and crackers. I also like the flax English muffins. They used to make a Harvest loaf bread, which I loved, but they discontinued...
  4. In answer to the question in your title ... Yes, I've taken Custom Probiotics for almost 2 years. I originally took them after having my 7th and 8th gastrointestinal infections (H. Pylori and Dientamoeba Fragilis) in a 4 year period. Everytime I had to take antibiotics to cope with intestinal infections, I knocked out my good bacteria. So I needed to get...
  5. Is your doc using those food restrictions to treat (or eliminate) your Candida infection? How were you diagnosed with Candida? Did he actually run a blood test (for IgG and/or IgA mediated) food allergies? Or did he base his recommendations on theory? I eliminated Candida simply by taking Nystatin for 4 months. No recurrence since. It never recurred on...
  6. I was really tired tonight. So I pulled out the last 2 (frozen) servings of my Thanksgiving leftovers soup. That included a butternut squash soup base to which I added carrots, celery, onions, kale, mushrooms, pumpkin (from a Halloween pumpkin) and leftover bits of Thanksgiving turkey. We had Seattle Brown (Ener-G Foods) crackers with the soup and ate Medjool...
  7. I use the TJ's instant (precooked) brown rice packages. With 6 other diagnosed allergies, I can't find many other TJ products I can eat safely. However, I never reacted to the brown rice, even though I'm very sensitive to all of my 7 allergens.
  8. Here's what my naturopath posted on his blog about replacing wheat flour with gluten-free flours: STEP ONE: Combine flours in these ratios: 50% grain flour (either brown rice or sorghum) 25% protein flour (either navy bean, fava bean, garbanzo bean, garfava flour, or soy flour) 25% starch (cornstarch, tapioca, or potato starch) STEP TWO...
  9. The TSH range is wider than recommended, but your TSH is still normal. Also all the other test results are in the normal ranges used by the lab. So the doc probably won't request more tests. Perhaps you should reconsider original idea about palpitations being caused by food intolerance/allergies. Besides my cane sugar reaction, I also can get heart palpitations...
  10. Not many docs are fluent in 'thyroid'. Some use the outdated TSH normal range. Now endocrinologists recommend that only TSH between .3 and 3.0 or even .25 and 2.5 is considered normal. Also you can have 'normal TSH' (whatever scale is used) and 'normal range' T4, but still have low T3 (the hormone that actually controls metabolism, etc.). T4 is just a 'prohormone...
  11. My heart rate increased a bit after I started taking thyroid supplements, but I had a very low heart rate and needed to increase that. However, I wsa scared that feeling my heart 'pounding' was a sign of overdose until I read an article about heart palpitations at night. If you don't feel your heart during the day, but only feel a 'pounding' sensation in...
  12. We ate basa/swai (white fish) poached in Imagine chicken broth with sweet onions, steamed brocolli with Earth Balance dairy/soy/egg free mayonnaise, and Alexis rosemary olive oil (frozen) fries with the last piece of Lemon Poppyseed birthday (bundt) cake for dessert (recipe from gluten/dairy/soy/egg free baking book). That was from my husband's birthday just...
  13. I get palpitations (but not fast enough to call it tachycardia) whenever I eat cane sugar, which is one of my diagnosed (IgG mediated) allergens. I also get a little nauseaus when I eat cane sugar. All my other allergens (gluten, dairy, soy, egg, vanill and nutmeg) cause gut pain, bloating and diarrhea or constipation. Cane sugar is the only one that causes...
  14. I've used ginger tea and candied ginger (available during holiday season) for years for fighting upper respiratory infections. However I went through a period when I had one cold after another. So I asked my ND to figure out why I kept getting colds even though I obsessively abstained from my allergens. She gave me blood tests and found I was deficient in...
  15. The pizza crust recipe was from "the Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook". It used a basic gluten free bread flour mix with: 1-1/2 cup millet flour, 1-1/2 cup sorghum flour, 2 cups tapioca starch and 1 cup potato starch. I was supposed to add only 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the dough and save 2 tablespoons to brush onto the dough after it rose. However, I misread...
  16. I don't know restaurants in the Honolulu/Waikiki area, because I haven't been there since I was diagnosed in 2004. However, I have been to Maui at least 4 times (2-3 week stays each time) since I began abstaining from gluten and my other 6 delayed reaction (IgG mediated) allergens. I've eaten in many different Maui restaurants and never had any accidental...
  17. If your regular doc will request the complete thyroid hormone panel (TSH, free T3, free T4, TPOab (thyroid antibodies) and possibly reverse T3 (which can show whether you convert T4 to T3), you don't need to see an endo. However, if your doc only looks at TSH, you may need to see an endo to get all those tests. Alternatively a good naturopath (who considers...
  18. You could have a goiter or swollen thyroid glad. Gluten intolerance is highly correlated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (low thyroid function) casued by autoimmune damage to thyroid. Hashimoto's is the most common cause of hypothyroidism. Ask your doc to check your TSH, free T3, free T4 and thyroid antibodies, as well as do a physical exam of your neck.
  19. My husband loved the thin crust. I stretched the dough intended for a 13x18 pan into those 2 10x15 jelly roll pans. I should have calculated that before I stretched it so thin. LOL Oh well. Next time I use that recipe I'll make smaller pizzas with thicker crust. Nevertheless, I loved the taste of the crust and it was sturdy enough to hold all my toppings...
  20. I have diagnosed allergies to gluten, casein, soy, egg, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg. However I know I have many more choices that Lara bars and wine. What about all the unprocessed fruits, vegies, meats, poultry, fish, legumes, nuts and gluten free grains. I've been diagnosed with those allergies for the past 5 years and haven't gained (or lost) huge...
  21. PIZZA! With homemade crust from recipe I found in an allergy free baking book (gluten, dairy, soy, egg, cane sugar, vanilla, nutmeg, nuts free recipe). I put the (yeast) dough in 2 10x15inch jelly roll pans. After that rises, we'll top each pizza with our favorite toppings. Mine will include tomato paste (Muir Glen), shrimp, sliced zucchini, green pepper...
  22. Wow! You've really been through the wringer! I know many celiacs (myself included) endured years of misdiagnoses, unnecessary surgeries, and doctors who either discounted their symptoms or gave them drugs to suppress symptoms without considering the cause of those symptoms. However, I've never heard of someone having their colon removed by a doctor who never...
  23. Even when we do have obvious GI symptoms (gas, bloating, gut pain, constipation and/or diarrhea), doctors have scuh a rigid profile for celiac disease that they say things like "you don't have diarrhea, you can't have celiac" or "you are too old to have celiac" (after years of mis diagnoses) or "you have IBS like everyone else your age, learn to live with...
  24. Active celiac disease (continuing to consume gluten) is correlated with many autoimmune diseases (including MS, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Sjogren's, etc., etc.). So is you don't have any reaction symptoms typicaly associated with celiac, you may continue to damage your intestines enough to let all those gluten...

    ARCHIVED Digestive Enzymes

I don't think you can diagnose hypochloridia from a stool sample, because the intestinal pH is alkaline. However you can diagnose malabsorption from stool samples (Enterolab includes those in their tests). So maybe your ND prescribed the enzymes after your stool sample indicated malabsorption.
