ARCHIVED Anyone With Celiac Ever Have Braces?
burdee replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not regular metal braces, but Invisilines to correct my crooked lower front teath. After years of dental damage from undiagnosed celiac disease (finally diagnosed at age 56), my lower teeth were misshapen and crooked. After 12 months of invisiline aligners (which were changed once a month, I now just wear Invisiline retainers when I sleep. If I forget to... -
What thyroid hormone tests did your doc have done? If your doc diagnosed Hashimoto's, what lab results influenced that diagnosis? Usually TPOab (thyroid antibody) tests predict Hashimoto's. I don't know how your endo could have diagnosed Hashimoto's and said your thyroid levels are in the normal range. You would need to have abnormal levels of at least TPOab...

ARCHIVED Anybody Else Have Heat Intolerance?(Can't Stand A Shower)
burdee replied to LOWNskater52's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had just the opposite (low core body temperature) for years. I froze all the time. Eventually a naturopath gave me a complete panel of thyroid hormone tests and found I had Hashimoto's hypothyrodism. Hashimoto's is highlly correlated with gluten intolerance (I've been diagnosed with celiac disease). Hyperthyroidism can cause the opposite symptoms (feeling... -
My 2 usual breakfasts are: Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty gluten free hot cereal cooked in almond milk or hazelnut milk with added almond butter (for more protein/fat), flax meal and fruit (chopped pear, blueberries, mango, etc.); Fresh ground peanut butter on an Ener-G Foods Seattle Brown Hamburger Bun half (works like an English muffin) topped with fruit...

ARCHIVED Newly "diagnosed" And Can't Take The Severe Abdominal Pain!
burdee replied to brookevale's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may have developed a bacterial infection in your intestines after you took the Keflex. Antibiotics kill both the good and bad bacteria in our intestines. If they kill of all our good bacteria, while killing off whatever other infection, like Mastitis, small (harmless) amounts of bad bacteria in our intestines can proliferate and cause big, bad infections... -
I'm gluten, dairy, soy, egg, cane sugar, vanilla and nutmeg free ... but only because blood (allergy) tests diagnosed those allergens and my painful reactions from accidental consumption of those foods corroborated the allergy test results. I tell everyone I'm a meat eating vegan LOL (no dairy or eggs, but I eat all kinds of meat). That infuriates true vegans...

ARCHIVED Sibo And Probiotics: Good Or Bad?
burdee replied to meinelse's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I had 5 different SIBOs, which my ND treated with antibacterial agents (some herbal, some traditional drugs) during a 4 year period. (I also had 2 parasitic infections and candida during that time.) I successfully treated all those 'gut bugs' (no SIBO or 'bugs' on subsequent stool tests). After each treatment I took high dose probiotics (127 billion live... -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Overgrowth Or Coeliac? (Gas Issues)
burdee replied to pretordan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The problem with gluten intolerance and most food allergies (which docs won't test for) is that they are DELAYED reaction allergies. Those are IgG or IgA antibody mediated allergies. Most allergists only test for those immediate reaction, anaphylactic IgE mediated allergies. Also there's a huge debate over whether to call IgG and/or IgA reactions 'allergies... -
ARCHIVED What Did You Think Was Gluten Cc When It Actully Wasn't
burdee replied to T.H.'s topic in Super Sensitive People
Non-Gluten Food Allergies: After I was diagnosed with gluten (and casein) intolerance, I carefully eliminated all sources of those from my diet. However, when I tried to substitute soy products for my former dairy favorites, I again reacted with my familiar cramping intestinal pain, bloating and gas. So I eliminated soy, but I still had gut symptoms. I... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pizza Sauce
burdee replied to Silencio's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know whether you can get Muir Glen tomato products. However, I use their tomato paste on pizza crust. I just spread it thinly on the crust and sprinkle oregano, basil and garlic powder over the tomato paste. That's less expensive than 'pizza sauces' and absolutely gluten, dairy, etc. free (just tomatoes). -
The doctor, who wrote "Why Stomach Acid is Good for You" (and whose clinic tested my stomach acid production), suggests a safer test (than taking betaine HCl) to determine whether you have low stomach acid production. Mis a little 1-2 tablespoons of cider vinegar in an equal amount (or more) water. Drink that before eating a meal. If you experience better...
-
Excess stomach acid is VERY rare. Most people develop depleted stomach acid production as they get older. Also taking those PPIs can impair stomach acid production even after someone stops taking them. I'm glad to hear that you found a product with HCl, ox bile and other digestive enzymmes, which work for you. I just take the HCl capsules (3-4 per meal...
-
YES! I eliminated all my symptoms of heartburn, bloating, gas, feeling incredibly full after eating small amounts and cramping pain by taking betaine hydrochloride (HCl) capsules before and during meals. HOWEVER, before I began taking those capsules, I took an acid production test, which showed my stomach did not produce enough acid and very slowly produced...

ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill?
burdee replied to key's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have eaten Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty gluten free hot cereal since I was diagnosed with celiac disease 7-1/2 years ago. I've never had a 'gluten symptom' reaction to that cereal. I've also used other BRM gluten free products and have not reacted. However, I AM super sensitive to gluten contamination. (I get excruciating gut pain, bloating and gas which... -
ARCHIVED After Recovering From Leaky Gut, Can You Start Eating Foods You Had Been Sensative To?
burdee replied to softpretzel's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've never 'recovered' from sensitivity to sorbitol or other 'tol' sweetners (like mannitol, xylitol, etc.), even after 5 years free of 5 diagnosed allergens and 7 years free of gluten and dairy. Maybe I was one of those 'older adults' whose celiac lesions don't completely heal. I still get cramping pain when I'm bloated. (Maybe my gut lesions don't like... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In My Thyroid Meds!
burdee replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience with your T3 (Cytomel) supplement. I requested generic liothyronine (T3) made by the Paddock company, because Cytomel contains a sugar ingredient. Because I have a cane sugar allergy, I avoided that brand and opted for the Paddock T3 product. I've never had any problems with my generic liothyronine. I hope you continue... -
ARCHIVED Hashimotos And Gluten Free Diet
burdee replied to Jayde's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you're taking thyroid supplements and still have hypo symptoms (fatigue, etc.), you may not be getting the right amount or kind of supplement. Some people (like me) have difficulty converting T4 (the hormone which carries T3) to T3 (the hormone which affects your metabolism). So if you're taking a T4 only supplement, you may need a T3/T4 supplement treatment... -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
burdee replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
How many of those people, who return to eating gluten and don't have gut symptoms, remain free of other autoimmune diseases for the rest of their lives?? Freedom from gut symptoms ('classic' celiac symptoms) doesn't necessarily mean freedom from damage from gluten antibodies in other parts of the body. -
ARCHIVED Advice For How To Do An Elimination Diet
burdee replied to hopefulinmybody's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm one of those 'rare' people who don't easily convert T4 to T3. So my free T4 lab result was normal, but my free T3 test was below normal range. I take a T3 supplement twice daily (generic liothyronine), as well as a T4 (Levoxyl) supplement once daily. I had frequent colds, low body temperature, fatigue and constipation before I got on T3 plus T4. T4... -
I don't know whwther this website will let me type a brand name, but here goes: I use Custom Probiotics, Adult CP-1 forumula with 50 billion live cells per capsule. Taking 2 capsules daily for 6 months after my last (8th) gastro infection kept me from getting new infections. I now just take 1 capsule daily and haven't had any new infections for the past...

Simple answer: We don't put food under our skin when we eat. Food goes through our digestive tract and into our blood, where antibodies can react. More answers: Skin tests only rule out IgE (immediate reaction, anaphylactic) allergies. Most food allergies (including gluten intolerance) are delayed reaction allergies (IgG or IgA antibody mediated). Skin...

Rifaximin will only work with bacteria which are sensitive to that drug. If your doc did not test (usually stool sample) which gut bug (bacteria, parasite or yeast) actually caused your symptoms, Rifaximin may be the wrong treatment for your infection. Taking the wrong drug can kill off your good bacteria, while allowing the cause of your symptoms (a bad...

Long undiagnosed celiac makes you vulnerable to other physical problems, especially gastro problems. I have 6 other delayed reaction (IgG and IgA antibody mediated) allergies, besides gluten intolerance. After experiencing those 8 gastro infections, I learned I had Hashimoto's. However, I'm lucky to have escaped all those other autoimmune diseases which...

Like IBS, SIBO seems to be a generic label, which doesn't reveal the true cause of symptoms, but which doctors can use to prescribe whatever they want to treat the symptoms. However 'intestinal bacterial overgrowth's can range from deficiency of good bacteria to excess bad bacteria, which are usually kept in check by good bacteria, to excess of really dangerous...

You should read what my doc gave me yesterday (written by Dr. John C. Lowe) about why docs ASSUME TSH-suppressant thyroid supplement doses cause osteoporosis and heart problems. The study on TSH-suppression and heart problems was done on elderly, bed-ridden patients (who were already heart challenged). There was no control study done on healthy heart patients...
