ARCHIVED Constipation Please Go Away
burdee replied to Ninja's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You actually need the full panel of thyroid tests including TSH, free T3, free T4, reverse T3, TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibodies). The last test can diagnosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune hypothyroid condition which is highly correlated with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. You may need to see an endocrinologist to get all the tests you... -
ARCHIVED Corner Sores & Rash
burdee replied to dani nero's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Cracks or sores in the corner of the mouth are symptoms of riboflavin (vitamin B2) deficiency. Take a balanced B vitamin like B50 or B100. Don't take individual B vitamins without equal amounts of others (except B12), because they work synergistically. That should resolve your mouth sores. Maybe someone else can address the rash???? -
Yes, the ELISA test is reliable. If you worry about pesticides with produce, choose organic. Free range, antibiotic free meats are available at Whole Foods and other like-minded stores. Not all fish are full of mercury. No, digestive enzymes don't help with diagnosed allergies. The only treatment is to avoid the offending foods. ELISA diagnosed reactions...

I totally agree with trying the gluten free diet. However, some people need more incentive than just feeling better. I actually was on a gluten free diet for 3 months before I took Elab tests. I knew I felt better, but I needed something to convince my doctors. I also did not want to return to excruciating gut pain and bloating by eating gluten to prepare...

ARCHIVED Enterolab's Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase Antibody Test
burdee replied to TJSpin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've noticed that "people poo-poo" any test that they have not personally used. Maybe there's a sense that "I suffered through eating gluten so I could take a blood test and/or endoscopy, which makes otherkinds of tests worthless." Obviously, that's just a guess, but I've heard all kinds of naysaying about Enterolab tests since I took those in 2004. I chose... -
Exactly. There are many opinions out there about what constitutes a valid celiac diagnostic test. Because I didn't want to return to eating gluten for a blood test that depends on enough gut damage to allow gluten antibodies to leak into the gut, I used Enterolab tests to verify that I had gluten intolerance, casein intolerance, high Ttg and genes which predispose...

In order to get scientific work published, you need peer reviews. If other doctors won't review your work, you don't get published. Why would other docs refuse to review important work? The same logic that says a negative blood test means no celiac disease, that even with a positive blood test, a biopsy is required, that even if only 3 (of the recommended...

If your TSH hormone result is elevated, you will need thyroid replacement supplement, like those mentioned. However, if your other hormones (T4 or T3) is elevated, you may need a different treatment. All thyroid meds are gluten free. However, some contain lactose (Synthroid, a T4 replacement, is one). Others contain sucrose, which may not be a problem...

Yes, I had 8 bacterial, parasitic and yeast overgrowth 'infections' over a 4 year period. However, I was diagnosed with each of those by stool tests which identified the exact 'bug' and tested which drugs and/or botanicals could kill my specific bug. Then I was given a treatment which was specific (according to lab tests) to that gut bug. I eliminated every...

ARCHIVED Help -- Symptons Worsening
burdee replied to Mooskie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IBS is not a diseae. It's merely a label doctors give to symptoms they can't explain. Most IBS symptoms are caused by either celiac disease, food allergies, gastrointestinal infections from bacteria, parasites and/or fungus (like candida). If you request celiac disease blood tests, you'll need to keep eating gluten before the test. Those tests depend on... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Decide Whether I Should Eat Eggs Or Not
burdee replied to kaygato's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I've read the elimination diet that comes with the ELISA booklet. You didn't say whether you actually took the ELISA (blood) test for IgE, IgA and IgG mediated allergies. You just said you react to a lot of foods. Did you use the elimination diet to determine which foods bother you? Or did you actually take the ELISA blood test for food allergies? -
ARCHIVED Sunshine Bugers, Has Anyone Tried These?
burdee replied to cahill's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My husband and I LOVE them. However, we both have gluten, dairy, egg, soy and other diagnosed allergy restrictions. So we didn't expect those to taste like meat patties. We especially like the garden and barbeque varieties, but the original variety is okay, too. If you have multiple food allergies, read the labels. Some Sunshine burgers have ingredients... -
ARCHIVED New Allergies Since Going Gluten Free
burdee replied to MamaElle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dairy (in hot chocolate) and eggs are common delayed reaction food allergies. So you probably didn't notice those reactions as much while you were consuming gluten. I continued to have gut symptoms after I was dx'd with celiac disease and abstained from gluten. I took 3 different panels of the ELISA (blood test for IgG allergens) to discover that I had... -
ARCHIVED Lot Of Questions
burdee replied to kimy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I self-diagnosed after years of misdiagnoses and then did the Enterolab stool test panel, which indicated lots of gluten inteolerance and celiac markers. Several doctors later accepted those results along with my chronic symptoms as celiac disease. I didn't have to return to eating gluten in order to take Enterolab stool tests. So never did return to eating... -
ARCHIVED For The Ladies: Clinique Lipstick -- Help!
burdee replied to zeeclass6's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I researched Clinique ingredients, I found that only the daily moisturizer did not contain gluten, dairy or soy ingredients (3 of my dx'd allergies). So I continued their moisturizer but switched to Revlon (which was free of my allergens) for all my lipstick, and switched to Almay for other makeup. -
ARCHIVED Adding Foods Back In The Diet
burdee replied to Michelle L's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Of oourse, you can do anything want, but you will pay the consequences. Most people who abstain from gluten for awhile, react with even stronger reactions when they eat gluten once in a while. Your body will react with even more gluten antibodies after a period of abstinence. If you had mild symptoms, you may have stronger symptoms after not eating gluten... -
How do you take the apple cider vinegar? A test for whether you need more acid (betaine HCl) is to drink 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with as little water as you can stand during the early part of a meal. If that lessens or eliminates indigestion, you may need supplemental betaine HCl, rather than enzymes to correct pancreatic insufficiency. If...

ARCHIVED Bloating And Gluten Free Diets
burdee replied to pandapanda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Many people get bloated after eating cruciferous vegies, like brocolli, brussel sprouts, onions, garlic, etc. You can take 'Beano' before eating those (or beans), unless you're sensitive to sorbitol types of sweetners. I use a beano-like product called 'ExcuseMe'. You may have other delayed reaction allergies (IgA or IgG mediated) to other foods besides... -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Overgrowth
burdee replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I only had really loose stools when I had c-diff. Most of the time I just had bloating, cramping pain and constipation. However, the constipation was caused by undiagnosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Even when I got contaminated by one of my 7 allergens, I never got diarrhea UNTIL after I was treated for Hashimoto's and had normal stools. I think your other... -
ARCHIVED Bacterial Overgrowth
burdee replied to Newbee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unless you get a diagnosis from a stool test which can identify your specific bacterial (or parasitic or fungal) overgrowth, taking an antibiotic can do more harm than good. Metronidazole is prescribed for bacterial vaginitis, clostridium difficile and several other infections. However, it is not (and there is not) an all-purpose antiobiotic. Moreover, that... -
ARCHIVED Adding Foods Back In The Diet
burdee replied to Michelle L's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Which test did your allergist use for gluten and wheat? If you weren't consuming gluten for a month, you probably didn't have antibodies in your blood to react to the test. That's good news, which means your gut can heal, not rationale to return to eating gluten. -
If you're really low in 'good' bacteria, probiotics may give you some bloating and gas as they change the balance of gut bacteria. If you had lots of gut damage from gluten or other food sensitivity reactions, that bloating can be painful. I still feel uncomfortable with slight cramping anytime I have strong bloating and gas, even if I only take probiotics...

ARCHIVED Help With Breakfast
burdee replied to Celiac and Intolerant's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Do you react to all those foods? If not, how were you diagosed with those allergies? Which tests indicated you were allergic to those foods? I thought I had lots of restrictions with my 7 foods, which are often ingredients in cereals, processed foods and baked goods. However, I managed to find several choices for breakfast, which I believe I already listed... -
ARCHIVED Allergies And Ncgi
burdee replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's possible that having long undiagnosed gluten intolerance (and intestinal damage) will make someone vulnerableto other allergies, but those are usually IgG or IgA mediated (delayed reaction) allergies. Which allergy test diagnosed all those allergies in your child?
