I saw my doc yesterday and wanted to share her reaction to my recent tests. She was not at all alarmed by my low TSH result, because my T4 and T3 results were normal. She also gave me some info supporting TSH-suppressive dosages of thyroid supplements. Rather than prescribe thyroid dosages that keep the TSH within a 'standard' range, my doc (and the studies...

With my other diagnosed allergies, I can't eat most gluten free dry cereals. However I love cooked cereals to which I add rice bran (Ener-G Foods) and/or ground flax meal. I like Bob's Red Mill's Mighty Tasty (gluten-free blend) or Buckwheat. Sometimes I get bulk Amaranth cereal at Whole Foods and mix it with the Mighty Tasty and Buckwheat. I cook those cereals...

Yes, it's possible to find gluten/dairy/soy/cane sugar/egg/vanilla/nutmeg free probiotics. (Those are all my allergies and I found a great probiotic.) Freeze dried capsules guarantee the 'live cultures' stay alive for awhile. Refrigerated brands may not have live cultures by the time you get them home.

I had a high moderate reaction to egg whites on an ELISA (blood) test for IgE, IgG and IgA mediated allergies. My egg reaction was an IgG mediated reaction. My husband took the same test and reacted to egg yolks, but not egg whites. My egg reaction explains why I get very ill (nausea, pain) after getting flu shots (which are cultured in eggs). I also react...

Thanks for the suggestions. However, I already take loads of supplements, vitamins, minerals, probiotics, etc. I can easily reduce my T3, which should raise my TSH. I have the only T4 and T3 brands which don't contain my allergens. No other choices. Now that I have my blood test results, I'll see what my doc says.

My T3 supplement could be a little higher than necessary. However, my blood test showed my T3 level was mid normal. I'm rather limited by my food allergies to thyroid meds. Some contain lactose. Others contain cane sugar. I can't use Armour, because I need a different proportion of T3 to T4 than Armour provides. I don't easily convert T4 to T3. So I need...

Thanks for all your comments. However, I just received my latest blood tests, which make me more confused than ever. My TSH was very low, but my free T4 was low normal and my free T3 was mid normal range. Furthermore my TPOab (Hashi's antibodies) were lower than my last test after completing 3 months of LDN. So I really don't know why I've had hypo symptoms...

Being gluten free didn't decrease my need for thyroid supplements. I knew years of undiagnosed celiac could damage my thyroid enough that I'd need a 'maintenance' dose the rest of my life. However, after 2 months of thyroid supplements, I began taking low dose naltrexone to increase my white blood cell level (neutropenia). LDN also positively affects Hashimoto...

ARCHIVED Low White Blood Cells, Platelets & Ferritin?
burdee replied to vbecton's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A year ago my CBC revealed that my WBC was low (3.2 whereas normal was over 4.0). 2 months later it was 3.0. Then I researched low WBC and learned that treatment with several heavy duty antibiotics (like Vancomycin and Iodoquinol) can decrease WBC. A year before that result I took vancomycin for about 6 months (full, tapered and pulsed doses) to treat recurrent... -
For those of you who were diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis AFTER you had been gluten free for awhile: Did your Hashimoto's antibodies (TPOab test) increase over time even though you were gluten free and took thyroid supplements?? I was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2004 and immediately began abstaining from gluten. However, I had hypothyroid symptoms...

Yes, you could react to egg yolk, but not egg white. Both my husband and I were diagnosed by ELISA (allergy blood) test. He was more sensitive to egg yolk, but I am more sensitive to egg white. When I was eating eggs, I was also eating my other diagnosed allergens. So I didn't notice any unusual reactions. However, I was getting gastro symptoms (cramping...

I'm one of those 'rare' people. After 6 months on Levoxyl, a T4 supplement, I still had hypothyroid symptoms. A blood test showed my TSH and T4 were normal. However, my T3 was very low. I had plenty of T4, but it wasn't being converted to T3. Because Cytomel and the T3/T4 combo product (forgot the name) contained my diagnosed allergens, I requested generic...

I don't know whether the gluten-free diet decreased my hypothyroid symptoms, because I was diagnosed with celiac (and went gluten-free) 6 years before I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. However, my Hashi's antibodies decreased after taking low dose naltrexone (LDN) for impaired immunity (low neutrophils). What thyroid meds have you tried? T4 supplements...

ARCHIVED Magnesium Supplement & Thyroid Meds
burdee replied to BCSherry's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
YES!! I take my thyroid supplements (Levoxyl and Liothyronine) when I first wake up in the morning. 3-1/2 to 4 hours later after breakfast I take my magnesium supplement. If I take the magnesium less than 3-1/2 hours after my thyroid supps, I notice more hypothyroid symptoms (I get tired sooner, feel colder, get irregular). So I know magnesium can interfere... -
ARCHIVED My Enterolab Results
burdee replied to kaygato's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I never said you can't quantify well-being. Plenty of psychological tests already do that. I just responded to your comment that Enterolab tests couldn't predict how you will feel after going off gluten. Elab considers the contents of stool samples and DNA swabs. They don't use psychological tests to predict well-being. So Elab tests as well as blood tests... -
Since Synthroid provides only the T4 thyroid hormone, you won't know how well that supplemental thyroid is being utilized/converted until you get a free T3 test. The body (cells) actually utilize T3. T4 must lose a molecule to become T3 before the cells can utilize the synthetic thyroid supplement. You can have a normal (midrange) T4 result (which you do...

ARCHIVED My Enterolab Results
burdee replied to kaygato's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Now I'm confused ... I agree that Elab's stool test doesn't predict how you feel after going gluten free. However, I don't believe ANY test (blood test, endoscopy, etc.) can predict how you will feel after abstaining from gluten. "How you feel" is subjective. Also, people (like me) may have other allergies (or intolerances) or even gastrointestinal infections... -
ARCHIVED My Enterolab Results
burdee replied to kaygato's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What research tells you that? I didn't think there was any research that predicts how you will feel after gluten free. "How you feel" is very subjective. Changes in intestinal villae and presence of gluten antibodies and/or Ttg antibodies are measureable. "How you feel" (except by psychological battery) isn't measurable. -
ARCHIVED My Enterolab Results
burdee replied to kaygato's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Usually Enterolab results include an interpretation and recommendations. What did Elab say about your results? If you paid money for those tests, you may just as well trust their interpretation and recommendations. -
ARCHIVED Question About Hypo Thyroid....
burdee replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
See Open Original Shared Link That site will tell you more about LDN. I actually took LDN to increase my white blood cell level (esp. neutrolphils) which were decreased after taking heavy duty antibiotics for several years (esp. vancomycin and iodoquinol). Besides decreasing my Hashimoto's antibodies, LDN raised my WBC level back into the normal range.... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free 3 Months And Constipated
burdee replied to KatV1985's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After years of chronic constipation, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease and began to abstain from gluten. I thought that would resolve my constipation. After more allergy tests and abstaining from 6 more diagnosed allergens, I still struggled with constipation. After diagnoses and treatment of 8 gastrointestinal infections over a 4 year period, I still struggled... -
ARCHIVED Question About Hypo Thyroid....
burdee replied to gem75's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, going gluten free can reduce the Hashimoto's antibodies attacking your thyroid. However, by the time your tests (TSH, free T3, free T4, TPOab) indicate Hashimoto's, you most likely have enough thyroid damage that you will need supplemental thyroid the rest of your life. Also Low Dose Naltrexone can reduce Hashimoto's antibodies. Dietary changes can... -
Gastritis is not caused by excess stomach acid. So acid blocking drugs will not 'cure' gastritis. Stomach pain can be caused by an infection from the H. Pylori bacteria, which can cause ulcers. Unless you have ulcers, your stomach can tolerate high amounts of stomach acid. However, unless your doc tested you for H. Pylori and your test was positive, you probably...

ARCHIVED Reintroducing Dairy
burdee replied to Marilyn R's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would NOT reintroduce dairy, because I was diagnosed with casein intolerance (IgA antibody reaction to casein). Since that's an immune reaction, I don't think my body is going to forget that it considers casein protein foreign bodies. So my body won't ever forget to create antibodies in response to casein. I've had accidental contamination (consumption... -
If you are abstaining from gluten, you may now notice sensitivities (intolerances) to other foods. You may have had those reactions all along, but your gluten intolerance reaction was more noticeable. You could actually have a casein (dairy protein) allergy, rather than mere lactose (milk sugar) reactions. After I abstained from gluten, I still had reaction...
