  1. Say WHAT????? Run! Run away from this idiot NOW! What in the world does she think thyroid meds are for, if not to treat hypoT??? If you're hypoT, the only worries you'd have about going hyper is if you're overmedicated or if you go into a hyper swing of Hashi's (if you have it). Gah! That woman deserves a smack upside the head with a clue by four...

    ARCHIVED Diagnosis

In my case, I guess part of the problem is my drs are broken in now. They're so used to me doing my own research, they don't really bother telling me much (not that they ever really did) other than a few short sentences, and expect me to do the rest. The only problem with that is I usually can't think of pertinent or important questions during the appt...
  3. Just keep an eye on your vitamin and mineral levels when taking Protonix. PPIs are notorious for causing iron, calcium and B vitamin deficiencies. Stomach acid is necessary for helping the body metabolize these nutritients and when you don't have enough stomach acid your body can't absorb them. Goodness knows, most of us have nutritional deficiencies already...
  4. Donna, How did the saliva test go? You'd think it'd be easy spitting into a tube, but that much saliva on demand takes effort. Smelling dried apricots worked for me, although most folks get good results with sniffing lemons or pickles. Which lab are you using for the salva testing? I've found that DiagnosTech's labs are the most comprehensive and cost...
  5. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone. I ran my own business and worked a part-time job until this year. Had to stop all of that due to severe fatigue and joint pain. I'd get home from the part-time job and collapse on the sofa. Quit that and still didn't have enough energy to run the business. I hate not being able to contribute to the household...
  6. Ever since Thanksgiving, I've had a mad craving for turkey sandwiches. Not just any old craving. A MAD craving. One of the local grocery stores carries both Kinnickinnick and Glutino breads! Woot! Lightly toasted two pieces, added some thinly sliced leftover turkey, a little salt and pepper, and (ok I cheated on the sugar) some cranberry sauce. Left...
  7. Andrea and Carla, Thanks for the dentist links! Will be checking them out today. Yay and Ugh! Rachel, Thank you for being so frank about Cutler's protocol. I'm a ways off from chelation, due to the delay in getting the amalgams out. While the clinic I go to does chelation therapy, I've still wanted to see what other options were out there before...
  8. Something else to think about - how are your iron and vit B levels? I can often tell when my iron and/or Bs are getting low because I get a headache, along with mouth sores and blisters. Your zinc and vit C might be low as well.
  9. Alison and Jin, Oh yeah! I've got deficiencies. Iron, vit D, B5, B12 and folate. Calcium, magnesium, the rest of the B vits are low too. I think I'm finally starting to absorb some of these, now that my diet has changed. Been taking B12 sublinguals for the past few weeks and they're really helping. I can actually get off my butt for more than 5 minutes...
  10. Maybe one of those red "no" circles with the bar going across a bunch of wheat. Celiacs go against the grain. Got more gas than your car? Think Celiac. Just say NO to gluten. Celiac on board. I'm gluten-free! And my body thanks me for it. Yeah, so they're not all winners. Will put more thought into this once the coffee has kicked in...
  11. I do have a vit D deficiency. Upped my dosage from 2000IU to 4000IU daily at the beginning of Oct. As for exercise, I've been a sofa slug this year, due to severe fatigue and joint/muscle pain. In previous years, I've been fairly active, indoors and out, with the same seasonal cycle changes. Part of me is thinking maybe its stress, even though I'm...
  12. Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome! I've decided to go gluten-free. Wanted to see if the intolerance was to wheat or to gluten, so I did a barley challenge. Some minor reactions, but nothing anywhere near what I'd had with wheat. Figured I'd rather play it safe, just in case. So far, the only real difference I can see between wheat-free and...
  13. Ya know, this never occurred to me. Could explain why I get the irritation down there. I've been using Always ultrathin overnights with wings. They're the only thing I've found that makes me feel somewhat "safe" from leaks, yet doesn't feel like I've got a roll of toilet paper between my legs. I thought it was because the plastic lining was keeping the...
  14. Hi! Just wanted to introduce myself on this thread. I've been reading this thread for awhile now and a lot of it really makes sense. Thanks for starting this! I have elevated mercury, along with higher-than-expected levels (per my doc) of cadmium, lead, arsenic, and thallium. I have a mouthful of amalgams and, since we travelled overseas a great...
  15. Good grief, woman! When you have a bad day, you don't fool around! Hope the rest of the day was better and today goes smoother for you.
  16. You're a braver woman than I am. LOL! I live 1/2 hour from the mall complex and haven't been there in 6 or 7 years. After about an hour, I go into sensory overload and have to get out of there. I'm going to be checking out Kimberton Whole Foods next week. I've heard they have a pretty good gluten-free section. They have 3 locations in our area and...
  17. Haven't seen the GI doc since doing the elimination diet and challenges. Since I'm already gluten-free, he doesn't want to do any further testing on that front. He was impressed that I pursued the elimination diet on my own after getting a negative on Celiac biopsy results. His answer to all this: if it makes you feel bad, just don't eat it. Gee! Thanks...
  18. I'm kinda halfway between Reading and KoP, just off 422.
  19. Oh Wow! That is a bit of a hike. Would take us about 3 hours to get there. Might be worth stopping in if I get out to Mom's place on a non-holiday.
  20. I've got cysts in my thyroid, breasts, ovaries and cervix. Oddly enough, they're all on the left side. Go figure. Been dx'd with PCOS, but no sign of endometriosis or fibroids on the pelvic or trans-vag u/s. The Holistic MD told me to cut out all processed foods, as it was a contributing factor to cyst growth. He didn't go into any further detail...
  21. NoGluGirl, I had a similar experience with the ENT. Wanted a second opinion from an Endocrinologist regarding my thyroid and had the ENT send my records over to her. Apparently, in the cover letter, he told her that I was a "nervous patient", which she not only took to heart, but then called me to my face. I'm not a nervous patient. I'm a difficult...
  22. I wanted to find out if my reaction was to just wheat or to gluten. Decided to do a barley challenge to find out for sure. Had a teaspoon of cooked barley last night. Had some lightheadedness and very minor reflux, but otherwise ok. No bloating, no pain, none of what I had with the wheat challenge. Will probably take a couple of days for everything to...
  23. Thank you! The last dinner hurdle has been jumped! Decided not to make stuffing this year. Its just hubby and I and we're going to his parents place after we eat. He can pork out on stuffing there.
  24. While we're on the subject, any ideas on what to use in mashed potatoes (from scratch) instead of dairy (milk, butter, sour cream, etc)? Would really like to make masheds for Thursday, but since going dairy-free, am at kind of a loss. Failing to find any alternatives, will just make oven tatotes (cut up, put on an oiled cookie sheet, salt & pepper...
  25. NoGluGirl, Wow! Thank you so much for the detailed info! Sounds like our PCPs might be related. Wouldn't trust that woman to dx a hangnail. Thank goodness she's aware of her numerous shortcomings and refers everything... and I mean everything. It really sucks that you had to suffer needlessly for 4 more years due to her incompetence. Don't blame you...
