  1. Can't help you with the ice cream, but as for popsicles, edy's fruit bars are just that- fruit bars. They are 100% fruit juice and delicious they might have a little bit of added sugar, but if they do, it's better than corn syrup anyway!
  2. I don't see why not, it's not like it has yeast or anything...only one way to tell though, give it a try! Worst case, it turns out inedible, in which case you'd throw it away anyway.
  3. Unfortunately I haven't found a way to totally fix this, but here's what I do: I keep them frozen, then thaw them in a skillet on the stove (not in the microwave!) before wrapping them. I also don't wrap them all the way: I fold them kinda like tacos, and then use a toothpick to hold them like that until I'm ready to eat them. It works reasonably well! It...
  4. Hi all! I just got back from England and Scotland a week ago, and wanted to share my experiences. On the plane: we flew united airlines, I called about a week ahead to request my meal and it was excellent both ways! labeled and wrapped to minimize cc risk, they served me chicken with marinara sauce, plain wild rice, mashed potatoes, salad with lemon,...
  5. Hi! I'm 16 and pack school lunches every day. Here are some of my staples: -fruit of all kinds -salads- have your DD help you make them. They don't even have to be lettuce-based. kids are a lot more open to veggies if they have a lot of choices. some good kid friendly ones are: celery, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, you can even get creative with things...
  6. looks delicious! and no worries about the cholesterol...science has since found that 1. many of the sterols in eggs are not actually cholesterol and not harful and 2. Dietary cholesterol may not have as much of an effect as we thought...studies have shown we can eat up to 6 egg yolks a day w/o an effect
  7. I'm flying United tomorrow to England (coach) so thanks for the report on your experiences! I too will have plenty of food, just in case! (Nature Valley Roasted Nut Crunch bars are my savior...cheap, high protein, few ingredients, all natural, and yummy!)
  8. I freeze a LOT! My dad made me promise to have all of my stuff out of the freezer before I go to college I have a year and a half! For baked goods, I freeze individual portions, ie 2 slices of bread, 3 pancakes, etc. and wrap the portions in foil. I then either put them in a freezer bag or a tupperware container. For entrees, I cool them in the fridge...
  9. https://www.celiac.com/articles/878/1/Soft-...Free/Page1.html Here's one...I haven't tried it but it looks good!
  10. I can add to the pediatrician rant: I'm 16, and a few months after DX (which was suprisingly easy, I have a great GI) I started to feel beyond exhausted, achy, was gaining weight for no reason, and my hair was falling out. Afer running a test or two, my pediatrician blew me off, saying that I wasn't getting enough sleep. Uh yeah, I know, I'm in high school...
  11. I like kinnikinnick tapioca rice or sunflower flax breads...90 cals per slice, yummy, and healthy!
  12. Glutino pretzels...there's something about them that's SO yummy...even wheat eaters say that they're better than the usual I second the Van's- they are fluffy and light where eggos are hard as a rock and tasteless. A lot of the cookies are really good too...maybe it's just because I appreciate them more, but I swear that K-toos are better than oreos
  13. My gyno just switched my birth control AGAIN trying to get the hormone levels right, as my body is basically going into menopause from not having enough estrogen...and I'm 16!! And the endometriosis is not as controled as it could be. But I'm not sure if it's gluten-free...it's not on the gluten-free drug list, and the ingredients list maltodextrin, which...
  14. Sweet Baby Ray's is gluten-free...and really good! I used it pre DX, and was thrilled to find out it was gluten-free.
  15. -water chestnuts -cut up ginger root or powdered ginger -scallions -garlic -cucumber (raw or barely cooked, throw in at last second) -cabbage/bok choy also play with your sauces- using a wheat-free soy sauce as a base, play with: lemon, ginger, sesame oil, hot sauce, red pepper, brown sugar, etc.
  16. A typical lunch for me: -Nature valley roasted nut crunch granola bars (the only NV bars that are gluten-free, but are really good) -rice cakes w/ PB -cottage cheese -yogurt -fruit -salad or cut up veggies, if salad with meat leftover from dinner or deli meat. to keep my salads interesting, I use tons of veggies and not much lettuce. -tortilla chips...
  17. for me a big part of the problem was eating kashi granola bars before/during/after runs
  18. Your allergist was correct actually. Spelt is a tetraploid (4 sets of chromosomes) species of wheat that is different enough to be safe for (some) people with wheat allergies, for whom the gluten in the wheat is not the problem. It is NOT safe for celiacs, but your allergist was correct. I say stay unless there's something else that makes you uncomfortable...
  19. As for prom, I'm also a high school junior, and I am just choosing not to eat there or bring my own food. It's just not worth it to be sick on prom night!! Dinner is provided at our prom, but I just don't want to go there if I don't have to. There's another girl with celiac in my limo who's doing the same. As for college, all of the colleges I have looked...

ARCHIVED I Do Not Know What To Do

The fact that you're not peeing concerns me...it means that you are not absorbing any of the liquids that you are drinking and are probably severely dehydrated. You need to go to a doctor (who isn't insane), possibly even the ER, ASAP.
  21. I'm back!! And pleased to report that I had a fabulous weekend! I didn't wind up calling in advance, turns out I didn't need to. Here's how my weekend went: When we first got there on Thursday morning, my director and I went to talk to the event chair who talked to the kitchen so that they were aware. The hotel chef was clearly well versed in GFdom....
  22. If you're talking about biopsying the rash (and not doing an endoscopy) then it's not a big deal to do. All the doctor really has to do is swab an NOT ACTIVE legion (I think they just swab, or it might be a prick, someone wiht better knowledge of DH can confirm that?) Of course, if going off gluten makes your daughter feel better, go for it.
  23. dyes in cinnamon?? it should just be pure cinnamon! I use mckormick, which clearly labels gluten/is all gluten-free, I forget which...but the only ingredient is cinnamon!!
  24. sounds yummy..thanks! I like yeat free breads mostly beacause getting them to rise can be a pain!
  25. I bring a cold lunch to school every day. Here are examples of what I normally have: -lunchmeat lettuce wraps -salads -nature valley nut crunch granola bars (ingredients: peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, corn syrup, salt...doesn't get much easier than that!) -fruit...a lot of it! -not grain free, but corn chips or dry cereal -celery w/ peanut butter...
