ARCHIVED Cosmetics?
Lisa16 replied to Twister2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is a list of products/ companies that are gluten free and safe to use even if you have chemical sensitivities or DH. I have confirmed each and every one of these by email/ phone or internet within the last 10 months. The hair and skin products are natural or organic brands. I am not near whole foods so I do Sephora or Skinstore and online. My local... -
Wow~! What a night! Whichever side won there was going to be a very big and very important first. The year I was born interracial marriages were actually illegal in this country. My own relationship with my beautiful man would have been illegal. It is like a miracle to think that in my lifetime things have changed so much. I heard a very wonderful...

Did it too! Here's the real question: Which one of them had the friendliest celiac agenda? Maybe we need our own lobby.

ARCHIVED Brachs Candy Corn..wheat Processing Facility!
Lisa16 replied to krzsqrll's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My brother works for Farley-Sathers which owns Brachs. They also own Haribo, the company that makes gummi bears and the rainblo/ double bubble gum factory in Canada as well as Bob's candy canes (dedicated lines) and the Mexican company canelas which makes the little chiclets type gum in wrappers of 5. Brachs makes their candy in a number of different... -
Bell you must have something of a psychologist in you! It is a very good analysis. The most recents one (in the cafeteria) happened on the heel on my having to cancel out of a meeting between people at the university where I work and people in the local school district because, despite explaining about the celiac disease, the insisted on making it a dinner...

Thank you Neesee! Some of the statistical information for first degree relatives is higher that other statistics I have seen published elsewhere. I will forward this article to my family. Much appreciated. Lisa

I am coming up fast on 1 year gluten free and I have noticed that I am having dreams about gluten more and more. Both kinds of dreams, although the nightmare type is more ccommon. I have the happy kind where I can eat gluten with impunity and I devour huge chocolate cakes and piles of cupcakes with buttercream icing and pizzas with gooey melting cheese...

We eat a rice-based diet-- my love is from Sri Lanka. We use the tiger brand from Japan. It is by far and away the best we have tried. Plus it is fairly compact for a larger machine and doesn't eat a lot of counter space. You can get them online. With daily use they will go about 5-6 years.

The gluten is in the flavored polish they use when they clean your teeth. After reading some posts here, it appears not all brands of the polish have gluten and that there is actually an unflavored product they can use that is just pumice. But these were older posts. Perhaps the safest thing is not to get your teeth polished at all. BTW-- ACT mouthwashes...

Happy Birthday Momma Goose. I hope it is a great one. And thanks for all you do here. Lisa

When I had mine out, there was a small hematoma that formed at the belly button incision site. With this you could see a great deal of bruising and some of the trapped blood would leak out from time to time. It looked like hershey's syrup. If this is the case, the doctor will try to get some of the hematoma out when you go in. I would say to wait...

ARCHIVED Can U A Bone Marrow Donor?
Lisa16 replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I took the "donor" classification off my license AD (after diagnosis). I feel really bad about it too. But it looks like I might have another autoimmune now too. Still... Maybe this is a question for the celiac association or it might be worth an email to Dr. Green or another expert. -
ARCHIVED Can U A Bone Marrow Donor?

What about other organs in the case of death? Does anybody know? -
MRI inconclusive, 3 drs disagree- weird result-- fatty tissue edema The MRI was read by three different people and there is no consensus. They showed me the films. There is a small "loose body" (cartiledge or bone maybe) that is isolated and floating in a small sphere of fluid. But is is nowhere near the inflammation. You can see the inflammation in...

I had the MRI on Monday and I got a call yesterday saying there was a "significant finding" and I would need surgery. I will be seeing the same ortho guy this afternoon and he is supposed to explain and show me the films. However, his intern or nurse (his sidekick, at any rate) also told me three different people had to look at the films and they could...

ARCHIVED Upcoming Hysterectomy Concerns
Lisa16 replied to lenjac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am very sorry that on top of having to go through what is usually a very upsetting surgery, you have to worry about the food issue too. I had a hysterectomy about 7 years ago, BC (before celiac,) because of fibroids and other issues. The food was awful, even when I wasn't worried about gluten. They also gave the me wrong medicine (I am allergic to... -
Today I made a cake that turned out really well for me. It is a gluten-free version of a mandeltorte. You bake it at 350. I used 2 glass pie plates (the old fashioned kind from pyrex) and just poured the better into them straight. They were in there for 30 minutes and then I turned the over off and let them coast to a brown, if you know what I mean...

Well, the blood tests all came back normal or negative. It is a relief but also puts me back in square one. I think the testing was not as extensive as I had hoped. They ran lyme disease (2 tests, it looks like), D dimer, ANA cascade, TSH and RF. They ordered an MRI. The orthopedic guy was not receptive to me seeing a Rheumatologist. He said he...

MsLee-- One of the greatest things I ever did was to see a dietitian with a list of allergies in hand as well as about three weeks of food diaries. I am now pretty much down to down to fresh fruits and veggies, fresh chicken and minimally packaged/processed shrimp. It is a huge amount of work at first, but I make my own sauces from fresh ingredients...

Thank you Mark! I will definitely ask him to look at those two things. He may have run one of the tests (for AS, maybe. There were some where I couldn't see what he ticked.) The blood work should be in by Wednesday, and I will be seeing an orthopedic guy that afternoon as well. I will check in. I hope the Monday bloodwork person checks in too. ...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Chicken Strips
Lisa16 replied to nitu-752002's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi! Here is how I make mine. I owe many thanks to the Canadian program "Cooking with the Wolfman" on the Native Peoples TV Station. Hawooo! It is a modified tempura really. For every pound of chicken (tenders or strips) take 4-5 egg whites (depending on size) and beat until white and frothy. Add in .5 tbs of cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and... -
ARCHIVED Reply From Eco Nvey Cosmetics
Lisa16 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got this reply from ECO NVEY today. They have a beautiful makeup line sold by Sephora. I believe the Australian regulations are some of the strictest out there. Here is the body of the email: Thank you for your interest in NVEY ECO, Certified Organic Makeup. While our primary source for Vitamin E is soybeans, we do not carry a gluten free certification... -
I had a "scratch test" done long ago and the only part that came back positive was the histamine control. I think it was worthless. But somewhere I read that it tests for only one type of allergies (acquired maybe?) For food sensitivities, I have a strong immediate reaction in the form of a red rash that creeps up my neck and outlines my lips and bursts...

Thanks for the replies! No, there has been no change in diet and I am 100% sure I didn't get glutened because I get immediate D from that and I have been okay. The CRP test was done on the second day of the swelling-- I am not sure if he repeated it and I never saw actual numbers. I have been reading a little about lupus and some parts (oh man!)...
