  1. Hi All! I went to the dentist yesterday and now have a mild case of glutening (no DH blisters yet, but D). They polished my teeth with an orange flavored pumice polish. I asked if it was gluten-free and they did not know but that it was "probably okay." Man! By the time I thought to ask, she had already applied some in an autopilot kind of way. ...

    ARCHIVED Flare Ups

Fast! I got glutened from a hotel breakfast on my last day of vacay and during the plane trip home, less than 3-4 hours afterwards, blisters had already formed and popped. They can take over a week to heal completely. BTW-- I read what you wrote on the other post about ingesting hair and skin products. All I can tell you is that for some people using...
  3. After much investigation, here is what I found that works for me. I have multiple sensitivities, including sodium lauryl sulfate and I have trouble with many "hypoallergenic" products (including weleda and kneip). I finally found some that are mostly natural and scented with botanicals, rather than chemicals. Gluten-free hair/ face/ bath/body lines...
  4. Changing to gluten-free skin and haircare products, as well as makeup turned out to be really important for me. I finally got to 100% okay. I don't use much makeup-- just lipstick/ gloss and mascara and from time to time some blush. Here is what works for me: mascara-- NARS lipstick/ gloss-- chanel, clinique, 100% pure and burt's bees blush--...
  5. I love the part about ramming the display with the shopping cart! More: -You cannot watch a movie without thinking-- my god! That man just ate a huge bowl full of wheat (spaghetti!) And you marvel that he didn't get sick and can still beat the bad guy. -You hold your breath when you walk by the bakery section or drive by a wheat field so you...
  6. For moisture, carmex wins hands down. The second choice is burt's bees-- the honey scented one (not peppermint or pomegranate, which irritate me) For lipsticks I like Clinique different, Chanel "darling", and 100% pure lipgloss and cheek/lip tint. I also like the burt's bees shimmers in the tube type applicators. Do not use Aveda products...
  7. Here is what LUSH sent me today. I saw a post back in 2006 about this company, but I asked a slightly different question. I asked them which ingredients they use that contain gluten, including fragrances, tocopherols, alcohols, etc. There were a few surprises. This company makes a wide of range of products and they always list the ingredients on the...
  8. If you can get them, my absolute favorites are the lifestream buckwheat wildberry gluten-free waffles in the purple box. They are the best I have ever had and I feel bummed if I am out of them in the am. You have to be careful because they make many similarly boxed items and some are not gluten-free.
  9. I recently found a few good options-- If you like a cream cleanser, one is Sundari cleansing cream for Pitta skin. There is also a camomile cleansing cream by burt's bees, but if you like a foaming cleanser, my favorite is the pomegranate face cleanser by 100% pure. They have a website and they are gluten-free. Also, there is the pink farma-fresh bar from...
  10. Hi everybody! I am in my 7th gluten-free month and I am also off dairy. I have always had many sensitivities-- found out in the 80s that I can't do macrolides (the e-myacin anti-biotics) and sulfamides. The sulfa got worse to the point where I cannot drink wine or dried fruit or even medfications that had "sub clinical" levels of sulfa. Now I cannot...

    ARCHIVED Kenlove

Happy Birthday Ken! Sorry it's a little late. Here's to a great year! I hope you had a wonderful day eating lychees! Lisa
  12. We have a "hard to diagnose" disease. Whenever the medical community hits the wall (i.e. finds a problem they cannot fix or explain) they blame the patient, treat the symptoms but not the cause and cover each others' hinnies. They are only humans and they are hampered, both by lack of knowledge (education and training) as well as by a screwed up system...
  13. Korres makes a couple of gluten-free products-- there is the yucca soft shine wax as well as a product for curly hair and a leave in spray conditioner. If you go back a few pages, you can find the post. Good luck!
  14. Well... on the bright side there are two women in the finals-- Lisa, Stephanie and Richard. I am so sorry to see Antonia go for underdone beans. Man! Well... we could be in for a shock, but I think Richard and Stephanie have been so solid that one of them will take it for sure. I still think it will be Richard, but I hope for Stephanie. She gets...
  15. In his book "Celiac Disease: The hidden Epidemic" Dr. Green defines DH as "celiac of the skin." It is a definitive diagnosis when confirmed with biopsy. It is only cured by going Gluten free and is caused by the gluten anti-bodies depositiing in the skin. I notice that this question has recurred here many times, as well as questions of the type "Is...
  16. I hace been really lucky washing the wool ones in cold water with a mild soap and then air drying them on a hanger and then pressing them while still damp. So far no disasters, but I wouldn't do it too often. I bet you can do it with most fabrics. Good luck!
  17. I like Stephanie's chances, but Richard will be hard to beat. Antonia might pull something great out-- I think it really depends on what kind of challenge it is. I still think Lisa will get the boot (but then again, anything is possible. Maybe they will do a head-shaving type thing again and one of our faves will get kicked off!) After watching...
  18. Rachel-- Are you an artist or around an arts studio? I ask because many of these metals are used in paint pigments (like the cadmium yellow) and metalurgy for casting and the like. Stained glass workers use lead and coppers. And then there is the radioactive stuff (the girls who painted glow-in-the-dark watch dials used to get cancer from the paint...
  19. The issue is with the "gum base." You can read the ingredients, but they will all simply list"gum base" without telling you exactly what is in it. This is legal for them to do (outrageous, I know!) Every company uses a different gum base. In addition, the suppliers for their gum bases may change from batch to batch. You are really best off not chewing...
  20. Here is the AVEDA list of products to avoid. Notice especially the "one color" products which contain wheat germ glycerides. GLUTEN REFERENCE GUIDE These are the products Aveda manufactures containing gluten. Please be aware, customers that are gluten sensitive may also be sensitive to trace amounts that may be in the processing, packaging,...
  21. There actually can be gluten in professional hair care products. Aveda, for example, sent me a list of their professional products that contain gluten and it had many dyes and chemical treatments on there. And if they have it, then others can too. I posted the list in the "gluten-free products" thread about a month ago. The hair products issue is...
  22. Oh I agree with you! I do think that will probably be the top three and I bet Richard will win (barring an unforseen fallen soufle or some disaster.) However, there is an outside chance for Spike-- he is very wily. Ican't wait for next Wednesday! I also was pretty sure Lisa would go.... but she will. Just once it would be so mice to...
  23. If you scroll down this thread a bit you will find a list of products I got from Korres brand natural products. This is a greek company and they took quite a while to answer my email. When they did they sent me a long spreadsheet in Excell which I had trouble importing to the forum. They include a list of skincare and shaving products for men. Happy...
  24. Maybe going on a romantic little trip together for a change of scenery would be just the ticket. It doesn't have to be expensive-- you could even just pack a picnic and go to a nearby park. Or you could find a bargain flight to someplace like Maine or Fla and go sit/walk on the beach together. Sometimes just getting out of the house and into a new...
  25. What if it is even bigger than 1 in 3? What if it is everybody with a DQ gene? I am seeing people here with DQ1, DQ5-6-7 and DQ9 (and probably 3 and 4 too, for all I know.) And what if it is really everybody? What if nobody can really "stomach" gluten? I am diagnosed, and have the DQ6 and 7 genes. When my parents saw my results and understood that...
