ARCHIVED John Freida Frizz Ease
Lisa16 replied to lynne1978's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry Lynne. You may be throwing your frizz ease out. I have just gone through a kind of crisis like this myself. If it helps, I have found two things that work for my frizzy hair: 1. Korres almond leave-in conditioner spray (gluten free) 2. spritzing on flower hydrosol water from either 100% pure or the Edgar Casey brand (they have rose, lilac, sandalwood... -

I did too! maybe if we all write they will do it! Cool! I wrote them an email from the website and I told them how funny it would be to watch them attempt a flourless, eggless and dairy free cakes or breads. I know my first ones were not edible.... -

I am sorry to see Andrew go... and how mean was Spike? Sheesh. And Lisa too! I was halfway expecting them to just send everybody home after all the bickering! I think we need to have a challenge where they have to attempt a bread or a cake with no gluten, eggs or milk! Wouldn't it be fun to watch the oozy sticky messes? Or maybe the hard half-burned... -

Lisa16 replied to Green12's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ken-- What an amazing experience it must have been to actually be there and get to try the food! That would be my idea of heaven. And how lucky you are to live in such a beautiful place. Before diagnosis, I always said that if I won the lottery, I would hire a personal chef. Now I would redo my own kitchen in a big way Funny how life changes... -
ARCHIVED Top Chef/hgtv Design Star
Lisa16 replied to Green12's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
As far as I remember there hasn't been a chef who does Indian/ Sri Lankan/ Pakistani/ Nepalese style food yet... that really might win because they do like cooks with an identity (I am thinking about Ilan whop did the Spanish cooking with all of the gastriques) or marcel with his "chemistry cuisine"-- go xanthan gum pineapple poi! Plus Padma would go for... -
ARCHIVED Top Chef/hgtv Design Star
Lisa16 replied to Green12's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I would love to see a gluten free chef beat everybody else out and put gluten-free cuisine on the map! I have often wondered what would happen if they got somebody like that on the show. How far could they make it? On one of the seasons there was a woman whose schtick was cooking "healthy foods." If I remember rightly, she didn't make it very far... -

Hi and welcome to the club! There is a thread on the DQ6 and DQ7 genes in this section of the forum. If you search for it or scroll down a few pages you will see it. People ahve psoted their symptoms there. I have those genes too, as well as many of the same problems (except for the constipation part-- I ran the other way.) I am also diagnosed as... -

It is gluten-free, however, the company recently lost millions of dollars in a lawsuit because the product basically does not work. They guarantee satisfaction and ended up having to return lots of money to customers. Here is a link about the case: Open Original Shared Link Maybe you want to save your money. Lisa -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free List From Korres Natural Products!
Lisa16 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had to cope the list off of a bilingual Excell spreadsheet they sent me, so it is a little messed up. I tried to bold the product names in English. I don't see any shampoos or body lotions-- kind of a bummer because they make nice ones with natural scents that really worked. But they do have an absinthe shaving cream for men! Here is the email... -
Hi Donnal! I have a couple of thoughts-- Why did you decide to try going gluten-free? As an elimination experiment to see if that was your problem? If that is the case, there are four big food allergy items, and after that there is a list of about ten common secondary ones to try. It does sounds like a food allergy to me. The big four are wheat...

ARCHIVED How All This Works...
Lisa16 replied to snowbunnyok15's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Whey is a dairy product and it is okay if you find you can have dairy. 50% oof celiacs cannot. There are some brands of yogurt that are okay and some that are not. Yoplait containers say right on them "gluten free" if they are. It is in black print near the top. The last time I looked some types of Dannon had gluten. Of course, you cannot do the kind... -
ARCHIVED Chili Sauce
Lisa16 replied to Nashville's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you want a tabasco/cholula type, I don't know. But if you want a truly hot chili paste, get yourself a jar of Mustapha's morrocan hasrissa. It is made from chilis, lemon and some spices. It is gluten-free-- pretty salty. It is truly hot-- not vinegary, but deep. It has become my kitchen staple. It is good for sauces and as a condiment. -
ARCHIVED Blue Diamond Nut Thins
Lisa16 replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They also give me mild D. I have had the cheddar, smokehouse almond and pecan. I did not make it very far through the pecan ones before I started to feel it, so I have stopped getting them. I still have the partially eaten bag. Boo-hoo is right! They are tasty. I crossed them off my list. For a salty snack you could try popcorn (pop it yourself... -
It is also interesting to know that many people who are diagnosed as celiac (via biopsy or dietary response or bloodwork) do not get the genetic test done and do not know what their genes are. If more people who are sick got the test, I think the ideas about the DQ2 and DQ8 genes, as well as the reported percentages, would change drastically. Maybe your...

Full-circle brand makes some that are gluten and grain free. Also, the pioneer brand they sell in the mall here makes gluten-free. You can take citracal for extra calcium too-- and caltrate. Good luck! -
Me too-- I am DQ6 and DQ7. I have confirmed DH and it pops up within an hour, I would say, of getting glutened. I can pop up anywhere-- if it is on an arm, say, I can actually watch it form.

ARCHIVED Joint Pain Due To Celiac?
Lisa16 replied to TardyTurtle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Tardyturtle! I have the very same genes you do and the same joint pain. Mine is slowly getting better after 5 months gluten-free. I think/ hope it will continue to improve. It hit my knees and hips first, and then it got my arms, hands and feet. BTW-- there is a thread about that gene type on the post-diagnosis forum that you might want to... -
Thank you for the links and product suggestions. I will check out and try each and every one. I appreciate the people on the forum so much-- it is very moving to see the support and empathy here. I do not know what I would do without you. Some fragrances are so powerful that they provoke a migraine in me-- the part about the fragrance processing is...

ARCHIVED Response From Cover Girl Regarding Their Make-up
Lisa16 replied to KristaleeJane's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for writing to them and posting the answer here. I got an ever worse response from Juara (I posted it here) and I actually sent them a picture of my dh rash with an explanation of why it matters. Not surprisingly, I never heard back. I bet my email will become an office legend for them. Maybe we can experiment with different approaches... -
ARCHIVED Weird Symptom Questions
Lisa16 replied to WhimsiKay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bacon makes my ears turn red and itch-- in my case, I think it is the nitrates. I have noticed this only recently-- since going gluten-free. Most processed lunch meat seems to do this to me. However, I had a bad hotel breakfast experience that is a similar story. I consumeed three things and got incredibly sick (it was a 12 episode within 1 hour kind...
