njbeachbum replied to Michelle1234's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
the lip balm is really great, one of the best i've ever used. the peppermint oil makes it feel really fresh and tingly and it keeps the lips soft for hours i'm a lip balm junky and always have some in my pocket. also i tried the herbal blemish stick because my face breaks out from shaving.... it seems to be working pretty well. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Bloodwork
njbeachbum replied to njbeachbum's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
lol - thanks, i needed that. the problem is that my doctor's office called a couple of weeks ago and told me that everything was taken care of. then the collection notice arrived the other day. so i called aetna, and spoke with a complete moron who said i have to file an appeal. apparently nobody told my doctor's rep that when she called two weeks ago... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Bloodwork
njbeachbum posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
OK so I had blood drawn to test for Celiac on November 9, 2007. My Insuance provider is Aetna. When they received the claim from Quest Diagnostics, they denied all 3 tests for the Celiac panel on the basis that they are "experimental and investigational". I am now slapped with a bill for $600 that is ready to go to a collections agency and I am fighting... -
i've just been on my first few dates with a special someone since going gluten free a few months ago. i recommended a local japanese place for the first date, since sushi can be pretty safe (and I know they carry gluten free soy sauce and i know the owner and he is conscious of gluten intolerance). second date was to a seafood place and i got grilled fish...

ARCHIVED Duodenitis
njbeachbum replied to kim26's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
hey kim, i'm 30 years old and had a positive blood test in november and positive biopsy in december. i was diagnosed with small intestinal crohn's disease 14 years ago after being very sick for about a year. i just recently started seeing a new gastro doctor who finally made the celiac connection. when he reviewed my prior medical records with me... -
ARCHIVED What Did I Do Wrong?
njbeachbum replied to Gluten=bad's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My bet is that all of the dairy that you had that day is the culprit. I've been on the gluten free diet since December 3rd, so it's been almost 3 months for me. I still have good days and bad days. I was misdiagnosed for many years, so my gut is a mess from being symptomatic for so long. I usually limit my dairy intake to just a pat of butter in my cream... -
ARCHIVED Trouble Staying gluten-free
njbeachbum replied to Salazarai's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tiffany, that was extremely well-worded. I echo every line of your post. I was diagnosed in November after suffering for 14 years with a diagnosis of small intestinal crohn's disease. When you've forced yourself to deal with the fact that "this is how life is just going to be for me", it becomes a reawakening when you get the correct diagnosis of Celiac... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Easter Candy?
njbeachbum replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks Lisa.... but I actually meant the Cadbury Mini Eggs... they are the small solid chocolate eggs with the hard candy shell. my absolute favorite candy. I haven't seen the ingredients myself, but my sister is my biggest advocate and she looked it up for me somewhere. I was never a big fan of the big cadbury eggs with all of that goo inside anyway... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Easter Candy?

I know for a fact that Marshmallow Peeps by Just Born are listed as gluten free. see this news release: Open Original Shared Link In addition, Hershey does not maintain a gluten free listing but will always clearly label allergens in accordance with the following page: Open Original Shared Link Cadbury Mini Eggs are in the Hershey... -
ARCHIVED Ceoliac's Bodybuilding Diet
njbeachbum replied to Nowler's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
thanks for providing this info.... i've tried free samples of the NOW sports protein and it's pretty good, but i also just found Biochem Sports whey protein at my local health food store. the chocolate fudge flavor is really good, and mixes very well with a small amount of almond milk without a blender (just in a shaker). it uses a small scoop, and... -
ARCHIVED Sandwiches
njbeachbum replied to ZatKat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Add a third fan of the grainless baker sandwich bread (though I'll need to try the mock rye). i also just tried the Kinnikinnick sandwich bread this week and it's quite good also! neither brand crumbles and actually the kinnikinnick is a tiny bit bigger. i also like baking my own bread -

ARCHIVED I Want A Sandwich
njbeachbum replied to my3kids's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had initially heard great things about The Grainless Baker products, and tried out the sandwich bread. It was very good, but it came frozen, and had to be toasted and was VERY small for a sandwich. GET A BREADMAKER!!!! My sister bought me a breadmaker (Breadman Pro with gluten-free setting) for Christmas and I made my first couple of loaves in the... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Positive For Celiac, Do I Need Biopsy?
njbeachbum replied to krysmaralie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just to give you insight based on what I just went through recently, I was informed of my blood test results just after Thanksgiving in 11/07. My doctor scheduled an endoscopy for 12/21 to confirm the findings, but told me to go ahead and get started with the gluten free diet. A lot of people on here will tell you NOT to go gluten free before the biopsy... -

i LOVE larabars...... but i've also been eating these Organic Food Bars.... i get them individually at a local health food store, but i was thrilled to find full boxes of them at The Vitamin Shoppe. They have a great protein bar with 22 grams of protein that is really good for eating after a workout. They are also quite high in fiber which makes them... -

FYI..... cut and paste from the Wrigley's website, just b/c I looked for myself and figured I'd see if there was a posting to add this to: Do your products contain gluten? The following is a list of U.S. Wrigley products that are free of any wheat, oat, rye or barley gluten: Wrigley's Spearmint -
ARCHIVED Introducing Me
njbeachbum replied to Jodi Mills's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
hey jodi, welcome to the forum. i'm joe, 30 years old from NJ. i was misdiagnosed and medicated for crohn's disease from the age of 16 with the only signs of improvement being that i proceeded through my adult growth spurt in the beginning of college, and i wasn't paralyzed by daily "D" as i was when i was really sick (at 16). i went through those 14 years... -
