  1. Hi Vallene, You can try some of these ideas. They may help. Don't eat in restaurants Eat only whole foods not processed foods. Eat only food you cook yourself, think simple foods, not gourmet meals. Take probiotics. Take gluten-free vitamins. Take digestive enzymes. Avoid dairy. Avoid sugars and starchy foods. Avoid alcohol. Watch out for...
  2. Yep, bringing some food along sounds like a good idea. Maybe you need to bring more of it. Are the other ladies just eating one or two little bites of something? There's no reason you should limit yourself, especially when you are in the healing process. Your body needs nutrients to heal and make new tissue. Strangely enough, cheating has come up...
  3. Hi Subik, It's good they did the celiac panel, hopefully there will be enough antibodies left to show up. Sometimes people with celiac are low on B vitamins, and that can lead to nerve cell problems. It's sounds like you are in a waiting period now for test results. So it is a great time to do some reading and learn about celiac. There is also NCGS...
  4. Bummer! Sorry Niks, These things can be a long road sometimes. I wonder if any of her meds have kidney stones as a possible side affect? Are they treating them with ultra sound? It sounds like she might have a blockage in her intestine. They do have surgeries that can treat that condition. My brother had several surgeries for his Crohn's and did...
  5. The OP hasn't been back since he started this topic. So not sure it is worth attention any more.
  6. Hi Subik, Welcome to the forum! You can probably get a blood glucose meter at your pharmacist to test your glucose levels. People with diabetes use them for that. So they are fairly commonly available. It just takes a little jab for a miniscule drop of blood for most modern meters to work. That will give you and idea if you have blood glucose...
  7. You could check in with the DH crowd in the dermatitis herpetiformis subsection of the forum. They could give you an idea if those are possibly DH blisters or not.
  8. I do take the gluten-free diet seriously. But I can understand why people new to the gluten-free diet may not take it seriously at first. In my case I ate gluten most days for 5 decades before some knucklehead told me I couldn't do that anymore or I would die. That is kind of hard to take in at first. After all, it didn't kill me for 50 years so it seems...
  9. Hi Strings, You can get the blood antibody tests, first off, they are a simple thing, just a little blood as the Dracula says. Doctors may call it a celiac panel. Show them the list of tests you want done though, as they sometimes only order one or two tests. There are more people with NCGI than people with celiac disease, but both conditions share...
  10. Hi W4Dave, Some places you can get something more likely to be safe, like a piece of fruit, or even a salad. (without croutons). It's a pretty ok idea to carry a Lara Bar and some fruit with you if you are going out for a long day. That way you can just get a drink to go with your carry along food. Convenience stores usually carry Planters brand peanuts...
  11. Any news on the Julie front Niks? IS she closer to a diagnosis? Or to a pillcam and her Hollywood debut?
  12. Somebody posted a link for online medical tests you can order yourself without a doctors involvement a while back. If you can find a lab to do them for you, they might be less expensive and you wouldn't have to wait. You could get thyroid testing done for instance. I don't remember the lab name but someone else may.
  13. Dang, where are my earplugs!? Arrghh!!! Thanks for the lovely video of the lady with a tube down her snoot Paul! Great way to start the day! Really, thanks, that was helpful.
  14. Fritos chips didn't sit well with me. So I don't eat them anymore. You might like Mission brand chips as an alternative. If you think the pizza might be a problem, keep the ingredient list and review it next time you have an issue. See if there are matches to any of the ingredients. Also, if it was an Amy's pizza, that might be the problem. Some people...
  15. Hi Jen, I hope you feel better soon. I suggest you do re-check everything for possible gluten cc. But it may be time to look at other possible food intolerances also. Things like soy, MSG, caffeine, food colorings etc. Can you switch to an all whole foods diet for a while? Leave out anything processed for a couple weeks and see if it helps. A whole...
  16. 1, 4,10, 32, 109, 7, 12... Can't resist the chance to hear a silent scream from Colleen! @Paul, Sounds like a plan Paul. I didn't know they could do the endoscopy through the nose. If they can't take biopsy samples it won't be as accurate. But if damage is sever enough to see visually, and is not there in 5 months that is good. It's nice...
  17. HI, Here are a couple threads with info you should read. Test tomorrow. Not!! Celiac disease is a possibility, and so is NCGI. Neither one is a food allergy, so food allergy testing will not reveal them. Your symptoms do make sense for possible celiac disease. Celiac symptoms can vary widely, as our bodies don't all react like little robots...
  18. Hi Chuck, None of us can give a real good prediction of what will happen if you get contaminated. But, people do go on gluten challenges sometimes during the diagnosis process for 3 months. I don't think they usually die from those gluten challenges. Sometimes they do report slow recovery (months) and sometimes they report ongoing problems too. There...
  19. Did you have the blood antibody tests done while you still eating gluten? Scalloped appearance in the small intestine is seen in celiac disease. Scalloping is caused by destruction of the villi lining the intestine and smoothing of the interior surface of the intestine. My understanding is scalloping is a sign of advanced damage to the villi, not the beginning...
  20. Right, they'd need to do an endoscopy. But if the endoscopy is months after going gluten-free, there's a good chance it won't show anything definitive. Many people can stick to the gluten-free diet easily enough because their symptoms improved after going gluten-free, and they understand the risks to their health of eating gluten. Another "but" though...
  21. You might be one of the people who has symptoms but fails tests. The article linked talks about people with celiac like symptoms but they don't pass the standard tests. There are more of them than the people who do pass the tests. Non-celiac wheat sensitivity article https://www.celiac.com/articles/23033/1/Non-Celiac-Wheat-Sensitivity-It-Exists/Page...
  22. We had a discussion some years ago abut night sweats. Night sweats https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/7242-night-sweats/?hl=%20night%20%20sweat You can find more threads on the subject by searching for "low level fever". The immune system is supposed to be more active at night, which could explain the night sweats in celiacs. Celiac disease...
  23. Hi Eclara, I am going to assume that your "upper stomach symptoms" refers to pain in your stomach? Not sure if that's what you meant though. Anyway, a possible cause is h. Pylori bacterial infection. You can have your doctor test you for that. Or you can try treating it yourself and see if the symptoms go away. A couple over the counter treatments...
  24. Hi Waitin, Gluten is used in a large number of products, even non-food items. It is nice and sticky so it helps hold things together. So it is used in many products besides food. Some glues, wall paper paste, play dough, possible drywall spackle, other stuff. If u'r gonna eat it read it. Why eat something if you don't know whats in it? For celiacs...
  25. Some celiacs have gall bladder damage which can cause pain. Pretty sure that's on the lower right below the liver. Greasy foods may increase the pain if it is gall bladder related.
