ARCHIVED I Have Orders To Be Glutened But My Insides Already Feel Badly Damaged
GFinDC replied to steve501's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Steve. Well, she did tell you to stop if you got sick again, so she isn't being unresaonable there IMHO. The length of time she suggested for a positive test result seems too short though. The need to get diagnosed is a personal decision I think. It doesn't matter as far as treatment goes. The gluten-free diet is the only treatment right now. Most... -
Mastic gum worked for me. I also stopped all alcohol and that helped too. I still take a mastic gum capsule every other day. It doesn't seem to have any negative effects.

HI Wendy, Is it getting kind of breezy in here? Sorry dumb joke. Good job on the washing, I will have to try that sometime. Here's an article on gluten ataxia for your reading amusement. There are also lots of things out there about the link between gluten and pschizophrenia, which is one the hardest wurdsz to spiel I thunk. If you...

ARCHIVED New And Need Help
GFinDC replied to Ziva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They are thinking about Hashimoto's antibody tests I think. Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition where the antibodies attack the thyroid gland. The attack on the thyroid is variable so the thyroid hormone can rise and lower repeatedly depending on how the attacks are going. Think of it as a war and the ebb and flow of attacks. So sometimes you have... -
Hi, Oh, this is easy. Lets see, how do I stack up? charismatic: nope sorry, not even close. More like reclusive, introspective, and grouchy. Mangy might fit too. well-educated: Duh, don't stink so. gluten free man: bingo on that one. Good thing this is multiple choice. in the 28-35 year old range: Sure only that was 20 years ago...

ARCHIVED Celiac And Edema (In So Much Discomfort!)
GFinDC replied to Emilem's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had swelling in my ankles and feet for many years. It varied depending on what I ate sometimes it was worse and sometimes better. The biggest thing that improved it for me was stopping all grapes. Of course I am gluten-free also. But grapes seemed to be causing a basic swelling problem that other foods just made a little worse. You may have a similar... -
ARCHIVED It's Hard To Stay Gluten Free
GFinDC replied to h.leah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi H.Leah, Dani has some good points there. The hard thing for you I think is the symptoms right now are not too serious. Unless you stick to the gluten-free diet though the damage will keep happening and the symptoms will get worse in time. You don't want that to happen as it can sometimes end up in arthritis, or diabetes, or other autoimmune diseases... -
Hi Dani, That's good that the sweet potatoes work for you. I would not add oats back so soon though. They cause some f us to react just like wheat, rye, and barley. So you don't need to be in any hurry to find out they are a problem. If you do react to them it could set you back several weeks. I am heating up some sweet potato beef soup right now...

Oh, at least 2 or 3 times a year, maybe 4 or 5 even. That includes times getting a piece of fruit and water or fruit juice to go with my Lara bars I brought along. I have gotten salads at places a few times, and been ok. I always bring something safe with me if I am going out for an event like a sketchcrawl. Because we usually stop for lunch somewhere...

Ken, I agree with everything except the vegan part. I like to eat dead animals myself. But all the chemicals and junk they put in foods nowadays is sure unappealing and probably dangerous to health. I don't think our livers were meant to digest some of this crap they put in food.

ARCHIVED Boyfriend Has Celiacs, But I Don't - Questions!
GFinDC replied to superKITTIE's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
In the USA you can get Tinkyada brand gluten-free pasta pretty cheap. And Chex gluten-free cereals are available at reasonable prices. Betty Crocker has gluten-free cake mixes also. -
ARCHIVED New And Need Help
GFinDC replied to Ziva's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are going to try the gluten-free diet, and I think you should, it is best to go for 3 to 6 months. There is no point in doing it half right for a short period of time and making a judgment on that basis. Some people don't start feeling significantly better for 6 months or more. I agree, one biopsy is not right. The usual recommendation is 5... -
ARCHIVED Celiacs, Infections, Crazy Blood Sugar
GFinDC replied to Jortyle's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had slightly high BS for a while, but it dropped back to normal after I quit eating white rice. Mine never went as high as yours though. At least that I know about anyway. I believe blood sugar can flucuate due to food reactions, but that is just my opinion, I don't have anything to back that up. -
ARCHIVED Heartburn Remidy Suggestion
GFinDC replied to Bob4962's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could try some peppermint tea for the gassy stomach. Avoiding sugar and dairy can help. Taking probiotics could help too. Check all your vitamins for gluten too. -
ARCHIVED Passover Foods...
GFinDC replied to EusticeTheSheep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You'd need to check the brand name for the fish to see what the maker says about gluten. Matzoh is usually made with wheat, so that is a problem. Maybe you can take some rice crackers instead? If you father isn't aware of the wheat, rye and barley connection to you illness you will probably get lots of cross contamination. Flour goes in the air and... -
I think living in a garbage can makes some people a little cynical. Some people might even say grumpy! Then again I am not anxious to try the celiac vaccine. It seems like a good idea to try to make it work, and if they can make the idea work for other autoimmune diseases that would be great. But I'd rather let some other brave soul be the guinea pig...

ARCHIVED Detox Baths?
GFinDC replied to aquaholical's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't know about the detox baths. Some people have suggested epsom salts baths to help relax. Here is a thread with some ideas though: What To Do After Accidentally Eating Gluten? -
ARCHIVED Rash / Body Aches / Timing On Reactions
GFinDC replied to aquaholical's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Response time is pretty darn variable it seems, as well as symptoms. Personally I can tell within an hour usually. But some people take a day or more to feel symptoms, and some people get no symptoms at all. So it's kind of all over the place. There are about 300 symptoms of celiac disease, so you can bet your fluey achey feeling is in there... -
ARCHIVED Higher-Than-Normal Thyroxine Doses Offer a Clue to Celiac Disease - Celiac.com
GFinDC replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity

ARCHIVED According To Recent Data, Gluten-Free Doesn't Seem To Be Enough
GFinDC replied to Gfresh404's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There was a paper linked a while back about celiacs developing some kind of brain/nueral issues even after being on the gluten-free diet. Brain rot? Not sure, it was something like that. Another article posted here recently said something about the villous crypt spacing not returning to normal after a couple years. I don't think I have ever been ... -
You might get some info on the Crohn's forum. They have a pretty active forum there. For gluten free eating info though the best place is right here on celiac com. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Not So Gluten Free
GFinDC replied to Littllemel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think some Kinickinick products have potato starch in them. Yo might react to that. You really need to look at all the ingredients in a product to see what might be a problem. And then try to match the ingredient list up to other products that cause symptoms. That way when you find a match you can shout "Eureka!" and stop eating those ingredients.
