  1. You can get the skin next to a DH blister biopsied also. If they find antibodies in the skin next the blister then you have celiac disease. Check out the dermatitis herpetiformis section of the forum for more info. I think I read that people with DH tend to have fewer GI symptoms.
  2. I'll give the purple a shot. I have a purple shirt around here somewhere. PANCAN was doing them a while ago for their pancreatic cancer awareness campaign.
  3. My co-worker's husband may have lupus. They are still in the testing though. Thanks for posting about discoid lupus, I just looking for info on it yesterday. Here's a guide to sunscreens, both good and bad. They don't like the ones with retinal palmitate (vitamin A). [url=Open Original Shared Link the Best Sunscreens
  4. Welcome to gluten-free! Sounds like the diet is helping you quite a bit. Do check out the newbie FAQ sticky thread for info. It should be at the top of the forums. I think most people have a kind of forwards and backwards experience as they learn the ropes of the gluten-free diet. But it should settle down after a while. Congrats on finding...
  5. I think they ought to call their pizza low-gluten, but not gluten free. There are lots of people now trying the gluten-free diet, for many reasons besides celiac. People with Crohn's, diabetes, or other autoimmune disease for instance, and also people who just like the idea of eating a healthier diet. For them a low-gluten pizza would possibly make sense...
  6. You might have reacted to another ingredient in the pizza also. Soy is a problem for some of us. But anything can cause a reaction. Especially when your gut is already irritated. Sometimes reactions take awhile to show up also, like a day or two even for some people.. Other times they are very quick. Nightshades are another food group that can cause...
  7. Oats can cause the same symptoms. The same reason some people have celiac and others don't have celiac. We aren't all the same. Bob's Red Mill claims to have gluten fee oats. Any brands that aren't marked gluten-free are potentially CC'd. Bob's Red Mill has non-gluten-free versions of oats also.
  8. Hi Astrid, Here is a short abstract on gluten ataxia, but there is lots of info about it on the web. Gluten ataxia. Open Original Shared Link Abstract Gluten ataxia is an immune-mediated disease triggered by the ingestion of gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of all patients...
  9. OH good grief M-Lee, please no more pictures! Sorry I asked Prickly! Ha Ha, could be. I have an old large format plate camera. Don't use it much but they are really nice by comparison to modern ones. Wood and brass just have a nice look together. I'll defo send my sister in New Mexico this link. She says it gets a tad warm...
  10. Actually, balance issues and headaches are celiac symptoms. There is a condition called gluten ataxia where the ability to coordinate muscles is affected, causing difficulty walking, balancing etc. Migraines are reported by users on the forum too. There are also withdrawal symptoms that some people get when first quitting gluten. Supposedly the gluten...
  11. Well, I think this claim really calls for pictures to substaniate it. Then us males types can judge for ourselves objectively and see if we agree with the claim. But pictures are definitely a must. Lots of pictures up close in fact. Color of course. At least 8x10 glossies. Maybe a signature would be nice too. Do we need to send you a camera and...
  12. Thanks Scott. This is pretty important info for mothers to have. From the article: Children born to mothers with abnormally high levels of antibodies to the wheat protein gluten had nearly twice the risk of developing schizophrenia later in life, compared with children who had normal levels of gluten antibodies. The link persisted even after researchers...
  13. Cabala's is the sporting good store right? That seems like it would be an interesting place to work. Fast food is high stress work for sure. Those darn hungry people pouring in the door all day and they always want to eat. And want it fast too. Well, hopefully Cabala's will work out.
  14. They can be stubborn. My younger brother with T-2 diabetes and GI problems almost certainly has celiac, but he won't try the diet. My other brother is probably NCGI at least, but not interested in trying the diet either. I think letting them know once in awhile that it helps and isn't the end of the world to not eat gluten may have an impact eventually...
  15. You shouldn't avoid gluten before your testing. The antibody tests depend on detecting active antibodies in your blood. That means you need to keep eating gluten until the testing is done. After that you can stop immediately and start the gluten-free diet. Of course you don't have to be tested, there is no law saying you have to get a doctor's diagnosis...
  16. A HIDA scan checks for gallbladder function. So nice we learn all these medical terms with this disease. Open Original Shared Link I was going to suggest possible h.pylori as a pain cause also. Innards gots all kinds of things that can make them hurt. I used to have pain that was probably gastritis (irritated stomach lining). And plenty...
  17. Darn people, always so hard to get along with. Except all of you of course!
  18. Here is an article that might help him out on the non-symptoms part: Latent Celiac Disease Afflicts Many Who Tolerate Gluten Celiac.com 11/08/2007 - A team of doctors led by Christophe Cellier from the Hopital European Georges Pompidou in Paris examined a group people who were diagnosed with celiac disease as children and who tolerated the introduction...
  19. Welcome Pro. Many of us are self diagnosed due to "failing" the not so perfect celiac testing. Failing a test for celiac doesn't make our symptoms go away though, or our need to eat gluten free. Lactose intolerance is a common problem for us, especially at the beginning of the diet. But it does go away in time for some. .Whole foods cooked at home...
  20. Hi, Have you had your blood sugar tested? It could be apart of the reason you are craving sweeets. I eat fruit and use stevia sometimes that about it. I use dot eat candy bars and stuff liek that. Now I am on a whole foods diet and get my calories from meat, veggies, nuts and fruit. When you have protein it takes a while to digest and the release...
  21. C and insomnia are common reactions to food intolerances also. So, just something to keep in mind as it could be another cause. The tricky part is more than one thing can cause a symptom, and sometimes there are several things that cause a symptom. So eliminating just one cause may not resolve the symptom.
  22. HI, I haven't had refeeding edema, but I have had edema. My feet and ankles would swell very badly for years. I recently learned that it was a reaction to grapes causing a lot of it. So cutting out grapes, raisins wine etc helped me a lot. Edema is a known reaction to food allergies, so it could be a food causing it. Some info on refeeding edema...
