ARCHIVED So Does This Mean I'm For Sure Negative For Celiac?
GFinDC replied to chris4845's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Great! Another thing to think about is the genetic aspect. Celiac is passed on through genes, or rather the possibility to develop it is. So, your other family members should be tested if you are positive. It might be interesting to ask your parents about their relatives who may have other auto-immune diseases also. People with celiac tend to have... -

About 100 patients have been reported, almost half of them of Finnish origin. --- Diagnosis The diagnosis is based on the biochemical findings...

The silica crystals type are gluten-free. They are usually blue or white crystals. They also make much less dust than clay or powders. And they work better for longer. -
ARCHIVED So Does This Mean I'm For Sure Negative For Celiac?
GFinDC replied to chris4845's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your parents deserve to know about your possible celiac disease. They need to be part of your medical decisions as they are responsible for you. You should talk to them before making any change. They may want you to stay on gluten until the testing is complete. Being diagnosed with celiac can affect your school lunches and your college environment etc... -
ARCHIVED So Does This Mean I'm For Sure Negative For Celiac?
GFinDC replied to chris4845's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was always real thin, no matter how much I ate. And I ate a lot, plenty of protein and carbs. I didn't gain any extra weight until I went gluten-free. I eat much less now but have not lost the extra weight. I am also hypothyroid now though and in my fifties so things are slowing down. But for 40 or so years I was thin or even skinny. -

GFinDC replied to Tracy0504's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everything Shrommie said A+. You may be low on some vitamins and minerals due to malabsorption. So it would be a good idea for them to test for that. The standard celiac tests are the blood antibodies (not 100% reliable though) and the small intestine endoscopy (also not 100% reliable). Lack of vitamins can cause all kinds of problems, including the... -
Hi Katfshh, First off, welcome to the site! It's good to have you here. It seems you have a pretty good idea of where the problems are already. The cafeteria is risky. Do they understand gluten-free food prep? Are they making cakes and breads and other foods with flour in the same kitchen as your salad? Flour is a fine dust and can stay...

ARCHIVED Please, I Need Urgent Advice
GFinDC replied to CNV2855's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, you are not me, so this may not apply at all. But I wouldn't do well on a diet including carrots, celery and white potatoes either. All three of those are problem foods for me that cause me lots of GI problems. Tomatoes and peppers are also bad for me. That's doesn't mean you will react to them of course, but it is possible. Tomatoes and peppers... -
ARCHIVED Pacific Natural Foods
GFinDC replied to weluvgators's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks WLGators, While I haven't had any problems with their milk substitutes myself, I don't think I have had any recently. Since they are now making a gluteny milk sub product, it sure seems like a good idea to check into their manufacturing/packaging process for possible cross-contamination issues. -
ARCHIVED What Supplements Do You Take Daily?
GFinDC replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sure, sounds good... Yep, lots of them have soy in them, or wheat or barley grass juice, carrot, dried lizard tongues etc.. Ok,I made that up about the lizard tongues. But it's almost Halloween, so who knows for sure? I just find it better to take pills with fewer ingredients, and then if I react to something I can eliminate that one... -
Tomatoes, peppers, potatoes. Don't eat 'em. Actually eggplant is probably an issue also, but I don't eat it so I don't know for sure if I would react. I think one problem is alkaloids in nightshades that some people don't handle well. I think the alkaloids are bad for everybody but most people can stand a certain amount. That's why they say not to eat...

ARCHIVED What Supplements Do You Take Daily?
GFinDC replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congrats Rose, you have been hanging in there pretty good! I take Vit D pretty much every day. CAL MAG Zinc every couple days. Pro-biotics every other day. B-complex once or twice a week. Thyroid hormone (natural source) once a week. No multi-vitamins as they all make me sick. -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed And Still Sick... Could This Be Celiac?
GFinDC replied to SilverClaerity's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi SilverC, Some people with celiac never test positive. They still have celiac. Other times people don't test positive and are told they have NCGI (non-celiac gluten intolerance). Either way, the treatment is the same, avoid all gluten. You are right, the gluten-free diet won't hurt you, so it is another very good and valid test. If you go gluten... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Fatigue And Other Problems
GFinDC replied to Austin Guy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Austin Guy, I am glad you are feeling better. Hypo-thyroid symptoms can be no fun in many ways. I had a similar experience with iodine. I stopped eating any salt for 5 years due to blood pressure concerns. I had read that salt could raise BP so stopped it. Anyway, I wasn't feeling so good and checked my vitamin pills and found that none of them... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Supplement
GFinDC replied to AVR1962's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hey, I have wondered about that too. And Paul had a thorn in his side, which could be celiac pain. but there are lots of theories about that. I tried Timothy's cure but I react to grapes now so had to stop the wine and any grape products. Although one day I will try it again, maybe in the dead of winter to see what happens. -
Going soy-free is not a bad idea. You will end up eating mostly whole foods by doing that, as most processed foods have soy in them. There are also nightshades to consider, (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers) and other food groups as well. Your nerve issues could be caused by mal-absorption.

Hi Alice, Yes, the testing for approvals of new drugs is expensive and time consuming too. And it is well worth while for people who really think they have a product that will sell like hotcakes, for instance a celiac disease cure. There is lots of money to be made on cures and snake oil too. It makes sense to do research on the celiac condition and...

ARCHIVED Losing The Will To Live
GFinDC replied to mookie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The gluten can cause depression and just plain feeling poorly. Hypo-thyroid can cause the same things. You need to treat both. But it can make a really big improevment in your quality of life, so it's well worth doing. -
ARCHIVED Need Help Finding My Inner Strong Eoman
GFinDC replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Not myself, but my ex had those kinds of problems when growing up. Her mother was schizo, and her sister was just mean. Not fun. She left them behind though, and has a new life now. -
ARCHIVED Testosterone Level
GFinDC replied to JSegura226's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The staying awake thing caught my eye. I used to react to to dairy like that. It would wake me up and energize me like super go juice. I once ate some cheese and was awake for 3 days without getting tired. Until the 4th day I finally slept a 3 or so hours and more the next night. This was after not eating dairy for years due to GI symptoms. I do try... -
ARCHIVED Not Celiac - So How Do I Know If I'm Still Gluten Sensitive?
GFinDC replied to AMaine's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think the goop they give you to drink before a colonoscopy is called Movi-prep or some such. Basically cleans your insides out clean as a whistle. Thee are threads on here where people talk their experiences with the prep and such. Don't plan to go anywhere the day before the test but the bathroom. I used to have green stool which later became black... -
ARCHIVED Horrible Fatigue And Other Problems
GFinDC replied to Austin Guy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Getting your thyroid checked is a real good idea. I read somewhere that thyroid function normally decreases as people age, so declining thyroid function is the norm as we get older, not the exception. Hypo-thyroid symptoms are generally more even through the day though. That doesn't mean you aren't slightly below normal and having some symptoms from it... -
ARCHIVED Desperately Sick Could This Be It?
GFinDC replied to Applegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people find sub-lingual (dissolves under the tongue) vitamins helpful at first. The most common one to find is sub-lingual Vit B-12. The thinking being that sub-lingual vitamins can be absorbed in the mouth rather than the intestine, which may be damaged and not able to absorb them. Watch out for the super-mega kitchen-sink multi-vitamins as they... -
Yep, sweet taters in the nuker for 10 minutes are easy and cheap. Better for you than rice too. You can use them just like you do white potatoes.

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Supplement
GFinDC replied to AVR1962's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I figure as long as you understand it is only a possible minor help for accidental glutening, and that it won't prevent an auto-immune reaction, then why not try it. There are plenty of other things people try also. Like L-glutamine, charcoal pills, Pepto Bismol, milk of magnesisia, marhsmallow root, okra, aspirin, ginger tea, alcohol, probably lots more...
