  1. People who have DH have celiac disease. They go together like peas in a pod. Not all celiacs have DH, but all people with DH have celiac. So test hi for DH first, and if that is positive there is no doubt he has celiac. Lots of info on DH in the dermatitis herpertiformis section here.
  2. I had slightly elevated readings for a while. My endo said the same thing possibly pre-diabetic. My numbers were not as high as yours, more like 119 fasting. I got a monitor and started checking my levels for a couple weeks. I quit eating rice during that time. When I went back to the endo for follow up my results were back in normal range. I also...
  3. A positive reaction to the gluten-free diet is a good test itself. Better in fact than the blood tests and endoscopy which can be inaccurate. It is part of the doctors tool kit for diagnosing you. You should follow your doctors advice and try the gluten-free diet. A good way to start is not eating any processed foods. Stick to whole foods you cook...
  4. The only thing I'd ask your GI is to recommend another GI or doctor who understands celiac disease. And then I'd stop seeing him. They can do an endoscopy and take biopsy samples from your upper small intestine. Those can be checked under a microscope for villi damage. But if you have been gluten free it isn't likely to show damage after a few weeks...
  5. Not very often at all. Been about 9 months I think. Then I went to a sandwich place while out with friends and got a soda and a banana, and ate my Lara bars that I had brought with me. Other wise I would order a salad perhaps, but that's about it. When traveling I take fruit and Lara bars and nuts. Sometimes a cooler with food in it.
  6. Welcome to the site Sarah! Yes, your symptoms sound very familiar. Depression is not unusual for people who are sick. Especially when they are lacking vitamins and minerals that the body needs to function correctly. Celiac causes damage to the villi lining the small intestine and that causes the malabsorption. If you do have celiac you need to stay...
  7. Orijen dry BG Before Grain dry Evo Wild craving treats
  8. You could get your antibodie levels rechecked to see if they are elevated. IF they are you will know you have a problem. Symptoms or not. Kind of an expensive way to monitor your diet tho.
  9. I don't know if the name brand Benedryl is really safer. The Feds took over control of the factory where it is made a while back because of quality concerns. So maybe it is ok now, with the Feds running things. Hmm, doesn't sound real believeable tho.
  10. I used to like cakes and stuff like that too. But now I think back on the recipes I used to make them, and it is not so appealing. Basically, most cakes are a big glump of flour, a big glump of fat, (butter) and a big glump of sugar, maybe an egg or two. And then a little of something to make flavor and color. Not really a very healthy treat to eat, even...
  11. Yep, trace amounts will get cha! Celiac is an auto-immune disease, and the damage is caused by your own bodies immune cells attacking the tissues. Your immune system like germs not so very much, and so it attacks and kills them. It also keeps attacking for a while. Celiac makes your immune system think your gut lining is an invader when their is gluten...
  12. Dang, sounded like such a great idea too! Thanks for the link, very interesting.
  13. I don't know about how long it would take to notice improvement with ADHD. But with celiac it seems that people have a varying rate of improvemet. Some heal faster than others. 3 months is a better time frame to test the diet. It might also help to put him on a dairy free diet. If he does have celiac it can cause trouble digesting dairy. A common acronym...
  14. If you buy cashews in the shell and crack them your self you shouldn't have any problem with cc. You could get some in the shell and wash them first and let them dry, just in case there was some cc on the outer shell. Then crack them and eat them. If you get sick it is probably a reaction to cashews themselves.
  15. I saw Dr Fassano a little over 3 years ago. I can't say I know what tests he would do now, but you could call his office and ask. IT would be a lot cheaper to do an elimination diet first and see if it helps though.
  16. Ha Ha ! That should do it!
  17. Oh yeah, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is strongly linked with celiac disease. There are plenty of threads on here by people with Hashimoto's.
  18. Maybe it would help to put up some reminder signs around the kitchen. Like those signs in restaraunts, "wash hands before returning to work". That kind of thing. You could also do something like the grocery stores do. Some of them put a green gluten-free tag on their store shelves for gluten-free foods. So maybe a big green self sticky dot from Staples...
  19. I don't agree with that myself. Pain killers are not a bad idea if you need them to get some sleep.
  20. Green beans with onion and some canned sardine fillets. A little crushed canned pineapple.
  21. Hi, When I went to see him I was hoping to get a diagnosis. Of course not eating gluten for 3 months nixed that idea. So what I got was his opinion that I probably have celiac, based on the symptoms I described and the positive changes after going gluten-free. If you want test results of some kind you will need to go back on gluten for a few months...
  22. Well, we don't have facial recognition yet, but FB doesn't have dislike / minus sign, so yeah, we got em beat!
  23. Right now I am experimenting with eating just breakfast, no other meals. So of course it is a big breakfast, almost half an elephant! Well, not really, but a good big breakfast. So far I had: Fried onion and mushrooms with green beans with crumbled pre-fried hamburger one day, Next day fried onion, mushrooms, broccoli and hamburger crumbles,...
  24. I use olive oil or corn oil. Lately I started saving the fat from frying chicken in the refrig in a small container and have been using that for frying things. Works fine. I just pour it out of the frying pan after doing some chicken and save it in the frig. It is cheaper and might add some flavor, although I am not a real discerning person in the flavor...
  25. Yes, I have seen him. Unfortunately I had to wait 3 months for my appointment and went gluten-free in the meantime. So my blood tests were negative but I had one of the genes. I think it was the furry one. Anyway he listened to my symptoms and said they sounded like celiac disease to him. He also brought in a nutritionist later to talk to me about gluten...
