  1. There is scads of good info on this site you can read. More current than any book. Plenty of recipes too.
  2. Koopur has a peanut butter deficiency? Poor mutt, his mommie shud fix dat! Just don't give him any of those Nutter Butter peanut butter cookies. I gave one to Corey (sheltie) once years ago and his whole face swelled up on the right side the same day. Had to have a tooth extracted. He sure liked them tho. Peter is just keeping the vets on their toes...
  3. Maybe taking a look at the illustration of innards on the top right side of this page will help you narrow it down. I think it sounds like the gall bladder area from your description. That whole page is worth a read, as it has info on the villi and other neat stuff we need to digest and absorb food. Open Original Shared Link
  4. I have read that people take coconut for candida also. It has something called caprylic acid in it that is supposed to kill off candida. Another you should consider is that you could have other food intolerances that are irritating you gut. Dairy, soy, egg, corn, nightshades, nut, etc etc can all cause gut problems for people sensitive to them. Most...
  5. You son might have Dermatitis Herpetiformis, a condition only celiacs get. the doc can biopsy the skin next to the blisters to check them for gluten antibodies. The blood antibody tests are not perfect, and false negatives are possible.
  6. I got glutened by gluten-free bread recently, the Food for Life brand. It took me 4 weeks to get back to feeling right after eating one sandwich. So, I really don't think you can expect your body to be totally better after just a month, especially when you are new to the diet and still adjusting. Your body doesn't stop making antibodies on a dime. And...
  7. Nightshades and corn starch in Hellman's Mayo. I saw Hellman's mayo now has potato/corn starch listed in the ingredients on their Canola Oil Cholesterol free mayo. Potato is not listed on their web site nutritional info, but I have seen it on the labels in a couple of stores around DC now. This is a change as their ingredients didn't used to list these...
  8. Schar sells some soy free crackers Open Original Shared Link Ingredients: potato starch, rice flour, buckwheat flour, eggs, palm oil, modified corn starch, dextrose, salt, yeast, hydroxypropyl methycellulose, sunflower lecithin, cream of tartar, ammonium bicarbonate, natural flavor. *Contains Eggs Made in Italy
  9. Peppers and eggplant are also nightshades that bother people. Just wanted to mention that since you didn't list them. Sweet potatoes are different and are probably ok for you.

    ARCHIVED Joint Pain

I used to have joint pain in my shoulders and knees. Most of it is gone now. I stopped eating nightshades and soy and the pain cleared up. The only area that I continued to have some pain was my right shoulder. That is mostly gone now though. I went to a Chinese Kung Fu shop a while back and got some King Arthritis Buster, an herbal remedy for arthritis...
  11. Try reading this page and see what you think. You can also do searches on the information presented and read studies yourself. It's not hard to find info on the dangers of soy. Open Original Shared Link
  12. It seems like the drop down menu by the user name in top right of the screen is context sensitive. When I first looked for it I was reading this thread after doing "view new content". I could see the manage blog link at the bottom of the drop down menu like Peter said. Then I clicked on the main forum link and checked and the drop down menu again. And...
  13. I am not there yet but hoping to at least get to the older, more wiser-er and more patient part. But the 30's and 40's are long gone... I do gots plenty of gray hair now tho...
  14. I think that is a pretty common change per the threads I have read here. It sure happened with me. I got much more sensitive after I first went gluten-free.
  15. 1 Don't eat soy. 2 See #1 above.
  16. Hi Jessica, It's good you are eating whole foods and avoiding processed foods. Probiotics are a good thing and avoiding sugar is another helpful thing. You may need to avoid all dairy for a while also. And it wouldn't hurt to avoid soy too. Now, the thing is there are plenty of healthy whole foods that can cause us problems beyond wheat, rye, barley...
  17. Some people make crock pot meals and like them a lot. Another thing you can do is make really big amounts of food on the weekend, and freeze portions to microwave during the week. If you do that for several weekends you can have a nice variety too. I used to make big batches of rice with fixins. One trick is to not use a lot of spices etc when you make...
  18. I think it is more common that people have many years of mis-diagnoses before celiac is identified. In those years their bodies are being damamged over and over, continually while they are not gluten-free. So that takes a tole and may lead to development of other diseases, including auto-imune disease. If you do a search on "celiac related condition" or...
  19. I don't think hubby should do the cooking unless you are with him and can supervise. Men need a lot of supervision after all. It's hard enough for a new celiac to learn to cook gluten free, but someone who doesn't have celiac and isn't reading and studying about it is not going to understand right away. So, if you are both cooking that might be good...
  20. @Noodleunit, Congrats on finding your food issues out! You might want to read up on gluten ataxia. Gluten ataxia is a celiac related condition that affects the brain and can cause nerve issues, problems walking etc. Another issue some people get is nueropathy caused by poor absorption. Generally people recommend taking extra B vitamins to help with that...
  21. Congratz on your 1rst year! I think that is probably the hardest to get through and adjust thinking about food and other stuff. Plus learning all the stuff too, that we need to lurn. It just gets easier as time goes by too, for most people at least. People are amazingly adaptable, and we can change our ways when needed. I hope your 2nd and 3rd and...
  22. Chocolate is not my problem any more, I have graduated to bigger things. Duh, trying to remember whut they R. Most chocolate has dairy or soy and badness ensues. So I still have some of the Bakers Secret chocolate in the refrig but it will eventually get tossed. Hmmm, have U tried making your own candy? There are microwave peanut brittle recipes...
  23. Already contaminated? I once saw a farmer's field that wuz full of poop! Seriously! U cud smell it a mile away. It is really good fertilizer and cheap, if you raise cows, horses, or chickens. Or know someone who does. That's y farmers buy manure spreaders to use for fertilizing. Peter, just kidding here. but all true too. I totally agree with...
  24. Facebook also has a chat feature of sorts. If you set up a group in Facebook you can IM all the users of that group, and they can reply back etc. If you use Facebook a lot, it can be anoying though. The dang chat window has a habit of popping up in the middle of the screen whenever someone posts a new message. Wether you want it to or not. It isn't...
  25. Hi Danio, Good to see you back after 6 months! I hope things are going well for you. Sounds kinda like they aren't going perfect though. Did you get your test results from the first biopsy and the 2nd? Not that I am a doctor at all, but you might learn something by studying them yourself and comparing the difference. Celiac is a "do it yourself...
