  1. I don't think it would hurt you a great deal to wait until after Easter to start the gluten-free diet. Maybe you can kind of ease into it over Easter though by limiting your gluten consumption, and then go 100% gluten-free after wards. Once you are off gluten for a few weeks though you may develop strong reactions to it, even in small amounts. In the...
  2. Don't forget your vitamin pills, and any meds you might take need to be gluten-free also. Tea and any drinks for that matter need to be gluten-free as well.
  3. Not disagreeing with Poeter at all here. But I seem to remember reading about wine in the US labeling, that it was ok to not list ingredients that were derived from the original source of the product (grapes). In other words, wine can have additional flavorings/supplements added as long as they are derived somehow from grapes in the US of A without it being...
  4. Spinach is also considered a goitrogen, so maybe that will help you feel better about not eating it a lot. Soy is probably one of the worst goitrogen's. Open Original Shared Link Goitrogens are naturally-occurring substances that can interfere with function of the thyroid gland. Goitrogens get their name from the term "goiter," which means an enlargement...
  5. You could try plain cocoa powder in something to see if it really is the problem. Or switch to carob powder for your chocolcate-like fix. Or just do without, who really needs that stuff anyway?
  6. Hey, Sounds like you are on the right track with the gluten-free diet. Many people have a period of adjustment to the gluten-free diet where things are kind of back and forth from good to bad. Sometimes for no apparent reason. Some of that back and forth could be due to: 1 not really understanding the food ingredients to avoid, 2 adjustment...
  7. You will need to check with the supplier of the psyllium husk to see if they process it on shared lines or if there are any other cross contamination possibilities. I can tell you that I have never had a problem the brand I use, Yerba Prima.
  8. Time to get out the old fishin' rod and some nightcrawlers Karen!
  9. I wonder about that too. But since they don't have to declare it on ingredients (per the article) then there is no one to check with on possible gluten cc at the manufacturing plant. So, who's to say really? Probably not a problem, but hard to verify too.
  10. It seems pretty obvious what will happen when they perfect this colorful poo. Patient: Well doc, I completed all the standard tests for celiac disease, blood antibodies, endoscpoy with biopsy, and yogurt color detector. What's the verdict? Doc: Yep, your antibodies were off the charts kid, the villi hit Marsh 4 and it all seems pretty clear except...
  11. It's all going to be ok. The gene manipulators are figuring out how to colorize our poo. The world will be all straightened out in no time... Open Original Shared Link Parents have long divined their child's health by reading the contents of toilets. But future humans who spot brightly colored poo could take it as a warning from genetically-engineered...
  12. It is really kind of hard to avoid gluten when you are starting out on the gluten-free diet, especially if you eat many packaged/processed foods. You really need to get used to checking everything you eat. That won't always keep you out of trouble but it is a start. If you stick to a whole foods diet for a few months you may do better. It's pretty easy...
  13. Another chef with no clue. He needs to get some education before he makes himself really sick.
  14. I got an old Hobart grinder off E-bay. Monster heavy duty thing. A farmer used it to grind corn for his critters. I don't use it much but it would grind an elephant if you cut it up small enough. Not real fine elephant meal, but not to rough either. I used it to grind split peas for flour. Great for instant pea soup. Weighs 50 lbs though, so not a...
  15. Flourless peanut butter cookies using organic or natural peanut butter. There are also flourless brownie recipes although I haven't tried those myself. But some people here seem to like them a lot.
  16. Constant bombardment, then a 2 week lull in fighting, and then boom resumed bombardment! Enough to make a person sit up and take notice, and maybe have a pronounced reaction. Give your body's immune system a break and let it recover a bit, then throw a bombshell at it. It's going to fight back with renewed strength after having a rest. I had the same...
  17. I use milk of magnesia to clear core after a glutening. I don't want to wait days for my system to get the poison out of me.
  18. I saw a research article not long ago where they said babies who are milk intolerant and then switched to soy formula have a tendency to develop more food intolerances or allergies. So it seems like the soy causes a problem.
  19. White rice does a number on me. It makes me very tired. I don't eat it anymore. I seem to be ok with the brown rice tortillas though.
  20. It is scary stuff. People are so smart they are stupid sometimes.
  21. Oh, I just know this is going to be a hug misteak. Open Original Shared Link Maybe I didn't really post that link. In the morning I am sure it will be gone and I will be safe. Oh crap, it's after midnight now! Too late!
  22. Good for ya Love2travel! You are right there are exceptions. Silent celiac is one. I certainly can see that it makes a big difference to someone who doesn't have symptoms. And for people who may get some kind of financial compensation for being diagnosed it could be important also. Sure would be nice if the doctors understood the testing process...
  23. If dairy is bothering you or you think it may be bothering you, there is no reason not to try stopping it for a while. It shouldn't affect the celiac testing if you are planning an endoscopy and biopsy.
  24. You could try some peppermint tea, it might help. Peppermint relaxes the muscles in in GI tract. It can help with getting gas out if there is a build up. It is not something you should stay on all the time though.
  25. Major reflections eh? I get that problem too. I often take my paintings outside on the deck and face them away from the sun to take pics. Wurks best when it's snot raining. My deck is only in the direct sun early in the day, and afternoon has more indirect light. So I can take pitchurs in the afternoon purty gud. Yeah, I can. I can so. So thar!...
