Hmm, which one is it, hypo-thyroid (low thyroid hormone levels) or hyper-thyroid (high thyroid hormone levels) ? Weight gain can be a symptom of hypo-thyroid, but weight loss is more typical of hyper-thyroid. With hyper-thyroid people can also have racing heart rates, nervousness, shakiness, high blood-pressure, excitability, anger, hot etc etc. Hypo...

ARCHIVED Refractory Celiac Disease
GFinDC replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Tennisman, Soy is in a ton of processed foods, including many gluten-free food products. It is also used in frying chips and things and in vegetable oil blends, margarines, etc etc etc. Just about anything processed is a likely source of soy, soy oil, soy lectithin, or soy protein. If you do some searching on soy, intestine, rat you will find... -

You might want to try eliminating soy also. Soy causes bad reactions for some of us. -
ARCHIVED Question About Lactose Intolerance
GFinDC replied to Elfbaby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What Peter said. You can also try taking lactase pills, but watch out because some brands have gluten in them. So like with everything else, check the ingredients closely. They also sell lactaid milk many places, which should help. Many people with lactose intolerance switch to soy milk, hemp milk, or almond milk. I don't think soy is good for... -
Plasma Donation - Celiac's Sought
GFinDC replied to Mari's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
They do have celiac listed, but don't seem to say anything about active antibodies. Seems like they could have paired celiac up with Crohn's instead of hemophilia. I suppose if someone contacted them they would say if they need people with active antibodies. I guess we all know how to get active antibodies pretty quickly. Doesn't really seem worth it... -
I can't see eating the gluten just cause its there. Isn't that why we go to desert islands in the first place, to get away from the gluten? Yum, a diaper bag full of gluten-free food, sounds tasty! Sounds like the ingredients for a big batch of stone soup!

ARCHIVED Refractory Celiac Disease
GFinDC replied to tennisman's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Tennisman, I don't have refractory, but there have been people on the board with it. I think the treatment is similar to treatment for Crohn's disease, immuno-suppresant drugs. And a strictly 100% gluten-free diet of course. -
ARCHIVED Corn Intolerance?
GFinDC replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I gave up eating Fritos a couple years ago. I don't have a corn intolerance, but they made me sick so no point eating them. The only chips I eat now are Food Should Taste Good chips. They have some flavors that are GFCFSF. -
You might find some related threads if you do forum search on night sweats. there are several threads about them.

GFinDC replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I guess I should have put all the fruits on separate lines to make a longer list, but: 1 Planters salted peanuts 2 Bananas, apples, oranges, fruit 3 Homemade guacamole with Food Should Taste good sweet tater chips 4 Corn thins with organic peanut butter. 5 Lara bars, mostly only when out -
ARCHIVED Crohn's Disease And Gluten-Free Diets
GFinDC replied to munchkinette's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Some people with Crohn's follow the GFCFSF diet also. Others don't. If it helps an individual seems to vary. Some people have both Crohn's and celiac too. There isn't any clear cut answer to why Crohn's affects the whole intestine and celiac only the small intestine. They are both auto-immune diseases/conditions and are both serious. However with... -
You could be reacting to some ingredient or ingredients on those mixes. Start by making a list of all the ingredients and then look for the ones that are common among them. That should give you a clue of what might be causing it. Then you can test yourself by trying those ingredients in isolation. Of course there is a possibility it is caused by more...

It seems funny to not have symptoms. But there are many people with celiac who don't know they have it. If fact there are probably around 2.7 million people in the USA right now who have celiac and don't know it. There should be about 3 million of us on this board, but there ain't. Not knowing is the norm, not the unusual thing.

ARCHIVED Advice Please
GFinDC replied to CatMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are taking an immno-suppressant you probably won't get a positive test for celiac. No point loading up on gluten for a test if you are taking a drug to suppress the immune system that you are trying to test. If you really want to be tested you should go off your drugs (I don't recommend this though) and eat a good helping of gluten every day for... -
That's what I don't get either. Vaccines stimulate antibodies, they don't suppress them. Now the viral gene modification things they have tried might have potential. We don't have enough zombies around after all! Oh, no vaccine for me thanks. The way I read the article on the study, it was mainly a test to see how well people reacted to different...

Hey Karl, Another painter here. I use my self portrait for my avatar. Avatar changes are common around here. In the gab chat room funny pages thread they have been using avatar pics of pets with hats recently to celebrate the royal wedding. You can post your web site in your profile if you have one for your art. You can't put it in your signature...

ARCHIVED Cancer, Chemo, Gluten Ughhh
GFinDC replied to fran641's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Fran, Congrats on your progress! I am sure you have the stuff to beat gluten if you can do chemo and come out on top. I want to share this link with you about the Eat to Defeat cancer campaign. Dr. William Li did some research on angiogenesis and found that many foods we eat have angiogenesis effects. Some of them are more powerful than commercial... -
ARCHIVED I'm Scared I Might Have Celiac.... (Help Me!)
GFinDC replied to DanielleS's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be celiac, or gluten intolerance, or a wheat allergy for that matter. Could be something else too. Did the GI take biopsy samples during the endoscopy? They can examine them under a microscope to look for villi damage. There are also blood antibodie tests they can do to help identify celiac. None of the testing for celiac is reliable if you... -
I am in DC. There is a Yahoo group for DC area celiacs, including MD and VA. They have meeting in Silver Spring or Arlington usually. You might find some other Marylanders there. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED At A Loss For Recovery - Guidance Needed
GFinDC replied to Syl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just know they generally recommend avoiding all sugar and starch for candida. I'd add to that avoiding food colorings and preservatives too. Just thinking, have you been checked for H.Pylori? H.pylori can cause plenty of symptoms, including lowering stomach acid. That might make it harder to digest the fats. An elimination diet is a good idea... -
I have sure wanted to not work some times. Last year was pretty tough for me as far as brain fog and lack of sleep. I felt really bad about my job performance last year but there was nothing I could do about it. This year has been better after making some more changes to my diet. I guess I am saying I do indeed understand and agree that taking some time...

ARCHIVED Maintaining Some (Small) Tolerance
GFinDC replied to Jeff In San Diego's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think about it a little different than you do. I don't think it's that we become more sensitive, but that we notice the symptoms more. Imagine you have a forest fire. The forest fire represents your gut on gluten. Now imagine there is a parade of helicopters coming in single file and dumping loads of gasoline on the forest fire. One after another... -
