You need to stay on gluten until the blood tests are done though. They aren't accurate if you re off gluten before testing. After the blood is drawn you can go gluten-free right away. Unless you decide you want the endoscopy also in which case you should wait for that to be done. Not everyone needs the endoscopy. If you don't need a doctors diagnosis...

Hi Sarah, Mine is deep inside so I have to squeeze to feel the pain better? It is not at the surface/skin or respond to a light touch kind of thing. I can definitely localize it to the top left side of my stomach though. Without any touch, I can feel it is coming from there. Boy, I sure felt it yesterday when I hopped out of my Jeep at the store...

ARCHIVED Need Help Settling A Gluten Disagreement
GFinDC replied to sariesue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok, so is your husband not going to tell his family they are gluten-free rolls? Has he been sworn to a code of roll silence? If I was him I'd be spillin' the beans for sure. What if they eat them and then discover they are gluten-free and didn't know it before hand? Good heavens, Christmas dinner ruined by a shocking subterfuge! Just tell... -
ARCHIVED Whats This Brain Fog I've Been Reading About. It's Ruining My Life.
GFinDC replied to fire-chickens's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I get in a brain fog when I am glutened. It affects my sleep also and that makes it worse of course. Gluten can affect the brain, read about gluten ataxia to learn more. Anyway, it can go away also but you may need a really clean non-contaminated diet for that to happen. People often suggest B-12 for nerve / brain healing. Since you are only 2 months... -
Pro-biotics are a good idea. I'd also avoid sugar in any form, in case it is candida, and starch also. Oats are a no no for me and 10 to 15% of celiacs. Are you taking anything that blocks or decreases stomach acid? That can be bad as it lets all comers into your system. If you can try some Betaine HCL every few days to see if it helps. Mastic gum...

Thanks for the insight on the fry baskets! I never worked in a McD or big chain fast food restaurant, but I worked in our family restaurant. Our fryers were side by side less than an inch part. They had rails above the oil vat that the baskets could be hung on to drain. We generally kept the breaded items in one fryer and the non-breaded in the other one...

ARCHIVED Puffy Eyes/bags Under Eyes?
GFinDC replied to smsm's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So she is having GI issues most of the time? Sorry if I mis-read this or mis-understood. I do that. Anyway, I used to have dark circles under my eyes before the gluten-free diet. I suspect she is reacting to something she is eating or drinking. The trick is to figure out what it is. It could be anything in her diet really, as our bodies are capable... -

ARCHIVED What Do You Do For The Pain?
GFinDC replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
H. Pylori also pain on left side under rib cage I use Altoids peppermints some. When I have gas in my stomach it makes the pain worse. So I take the Altoids to help get it out. I used to get very foggy when gassy with gi inflammation issues going on. It may help quite a bit to get the gas out. I used to do stretches and bends to get it out. ... -

ARCHIVED Super Sensitive Teen
GFinDC replied to jhuebner's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, I hope JHuebner is getting some good info too. I think we all agree there are lots of possible gotchas to watch out for with gluten. I prefer home made real soap now myself, not the store bought detergent soap bars. Those dry your skin out too much IMHO. I am one of the 10 to 15% of celiacs who react to oat protein (oat gluten) as well as wheat... -

ARCHIVED What Are Your Culinary New Year's Traditions?
GFinDC replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sauerkraut and pork, plus black eyed peas on the side or Hoppin- John. My Mom used to say you should put a silver dollar in the sauerkraut and cook it. When it goes in it is kind of dull but it comes out shiny due to the acid in the sauerkraut. Shiny like a new year! Oh, and fireworks too, if there any around. -
ARCHIVED Mother Drives Me Nuts Cooking Gluten Laden Foods
GFinDC replied to catlover0329's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dang, I hate it when that happens. I am still getting over a CC incident from some peanuts that were not marked in any way as possibly having any gluten in them. Of course I could have called to verify before eating them, but I chose not to. Ouch! I did check the web site of the maker later for nutrition info and found they don't list any. Surprise!... -
I don't know if you have tried this or not, but Betaine HCL might help. Betaine HCL can help if you have low stomach acid, which is not unusual. Your stomach acid does a lot to protect your body from unwanted bacteria and critters that like to set up shop in a juicy, food filled soup (stomach contents). H.pylori is a bad one that actually decreases stomach...

We are all individual and have our own road to follow. some people get better on the gluten-free diet right away and have few other problems, Others it takes longer and some develop other food intolerances along the way. I wonder what your doctor told you about recovery for gall bladder surgery? I've read on here about people having on going symptoms...

ARCHIVED How Careful Do I Need To Be?
GFinDC replied to cavetroll's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Cavetroll, You wouldn't happen to be a WOW player would you? To your question, yes a little bit can hurt you. The thing is, celiac is an autoimmune disease. That means your bodies immune defense system turns against itself. Your own body attacks itself. Fun huh? And the immune system is very sensitive, it has to be or those little bitty... -

Check all the vitamin pills or meds he takes for gluten also. Some vitamin pills have wheat grass juice or barley in them. Not so good for us. Pet food can be a problem too. Pets aren't too careful about where they drop crumbs or who they lick after eating gluteney foods. A simple whole foods diet and nothing processed, and no starches is a good... -
ARCHIVED Enzymedica Digest Gold And Glutenease - Has Anyone Had Cross Contamination Type Reactions?
GFinDC replied to carolynmay's topic in Super Sensitive People
Hi Carolyn, Most chocolate is sugar, cocoa, dairy, and soy. So you could react to any of those. But soy and dairy are the most likely. -
That's a real good point. I doubt very much any of the co-workers would eat a dish if they were told it would cause them to get food poisoning, or was likely to cause it. It's not a problem for them because they don't have celiac, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to be willing to help you. People may be B-heads at times, but they can also be...

Ha, that tree needs some popcorn strings, or some popcorn ball ornaments I think. Don't forgget to add some nuts to the popcorn balls too. Can you add rum to popcorn balls? Karen? Jestgar? Peopter? Mlee? Lowie? One of them will surely know. Or maybe even help if there is rum around. On my 7th day after some peanuts that are marked with nothing but...
